I finally convinced a couple of my friends who had old GW2 accounts to re-download the game and start playing again after only giving it a ~2-week try at launch. They were completely unaware of WvW at the time and were not impressed.

Anyway, I showed them what’s up and they seem into it now, but they’re all on different servers, so we’ll all have to switch. Preferably, I’d like to not spend any money (as they would too) for a transfer, or at least not a transfer to a full server…I’m currently on Blackgate which is tier 1 atm full of zergs and tryhards from what I can tell.

I’d like to move myself and my friends to a new server for WvW with my friends, but is tier 2 or 3 identical to tier 1/Blackgate? My ideal WvW experience is 5-10 person havoc group vs 5-10 person havoc group…does that exist in any tier/on any server?

1. Probably wait until the relinks happen. Servers may be shuffled, unless you stick with a host server, I don’t expect any of t1 and t2 host servers to change.

2. As you go down the tiers you find groups will be smaller, if you don’t like running with t1 50 man blobs then try t2. There will always be zerg sized groups around 20-30 no matter the tier, but less frequent in the lower tiers, even t4 can have them just mostly in na primetime.

3. If your friends only played for 2 weeks and probably don’t have much on the account, they can delete all characters and get a free transfer(once per week) to another open server. I believe you keep your bank stuff, so you can save all the good stuff and get them after you make another character.

4. Free accounts is another option, if anything you can use it to scout servers, just note you cannot move this account from the server you pick until it’s upgraded in which case you will receive a free transfer.

5. My guild was the same size and we moved over a year ago from t2 to t4 and we were much more effective in those lower population tiers (we didn’t have a zerg responding to us every time but it still did happen). t4 today may be the same size as then, but with the 4 link mishap it kinda ruined the tier. So again maybe wait for the relinks (which we expect will happen next friday) if you want to move down to tier 3 and 4.

What time zone?

I’d suggest wait the change of pairings (august 26th) before doing any move.

I hope you find a good server! I’m pretty sure your very first server transfer is free.

You can set up a scrimmage with another guild and have a set number of players. You can even call out when you’re done and they will cease fire. This can be done in a guild hall if everyone involved is in a guild with the same guild hall (everyone has lost precipice, for example) or can be done in a field somewhere in WvW.

I’ve never played on a T1 server, so not sure how it compares to other tiers. Many people claim the big difference is that higher tiers have higher population. Honestly, I don’t know.

Unfortunately, Anet doesn’t offer free transfers like other game companies do in order to spread out population from over-populated servers to under-populated servers, because…it would make too much sense, but not enough money. Games that depend on monthly subscription income need to keep their subscribers happy, so they occasionally offer free transfers from overcrowded servers. Here, we are in a free-2-play model, meaning if you want anything beyond the basic game, anything that improves convenience or adds extra frills to your character, that is going to cost you. Instead of buying gems with real money, you could grind for gold and then exchange for gems…but that will take a while if you and your friends are starting over from scratch. And yes, I too would wait to see how the next round of pairings shakes out, which should occur on the 26th.

Both T2 and T3 are currently healthy, I don’t think much will change in that regard when linking’s are redone but just to be safe, wait until Aug 26th.

This is true, I wouldn’t be shocked to see BG sent to T4 vs DH with no linkings and Ebay with no linkings.

I don’t know if you popped in two weeks ago when BG got dropped to t2, but it seemed to me that they were just as, if not more blobby during NA prime time. The main difference was that as soon as NA was over the amount of people to fight dropped to almost nothing, where t1 there seems to always be some kind of force on.

1. Wait for the 26th
2. If your friends are not on servers which you gusy decide, delete the characters and start new, transfer any gold, or anything thats worth transferring and is transferrable 1st.
3. On new characters, do a little bit of the story dor boosters etc., give them some gold so they can buy some 20 slot bags and expand inventory. Maybe play a little bit of SPVP to level quickly via books etc.

For which server decision ? If you anything other then NA prime I would not go to T3 or T4. Stick with T1 or T2. In T3 EU is ok for small size action, OCX kinda sucks, if you join SOS you’ll end up doing nothing but PVD for the most part, if you join anything other then SOS you’ll be on the receiving end of that which is right down horrible, trust me, I’m on SOS and play all timezones on different weeks and different days.

T4 is even worse off then T3 in this regard.

If you are NA timezones I recommend T2 or T3. T1 can get very limitting with prime time ques sometimes preventing you from switching maps, long wait times, etc. If you get DCed or game crashes or something, GFL to you getting back in. T2 and T3 have plenty of action all around, good freedom, and Ques are fast if they are there, few minutes at most.

T4 is currently a mess and will probably be a mess for a long time to come, I would not join it, it will most likely not be a fun and good experience for wide variety of reasons listed in various other posts on this forum.

Numbers don"t lie. T3 has 24hr wvw action. T2 only has some good fights at NA prime time.

T4 is mostly a mess because there are effectively 4 T3 servers reasonably equally matched but only three slots to put them in. So every week T4 gets one T3 server, which then has to dominate like crazy to try to avoid bleeding glicko. Hopefully the relinking will do something to address this although given the last several attempts to do something about it I wouldn’t count on it.

Trying not to bleed glicko on t4 is awful for everyone. It’s horrible to the two t4 servers, and it’s horrid for the server trying to reduce the glicko bleed.

Funny enough BG was full until it dropped. It opened at monday on that week. And then it returned to T1 where it started to win again as full. TC is on T2, struggling to maintain their lead and they still labeled as full by wednesday.
One would argue BG is Anet’s golden child.

T3 got a bit boring this matchup. 2 of the servers only fight with map blobs (one is a bit better on this but finding a good Roamer is like finding a diamond in your cereal box).The blobbiest server barely has any roaming or havoc. Everyone is on tag or hiding.

3rd server has bad NA numbers but solid numbers late…so night capping. It was actually not bad the week before when there was more roaming and small fights during the day.

T4 was a hellish mess when I left. Not sure how it is now.

Just transferred into T1 and feels a bit scarce to me. Found some good smaller fights though and most of the roamers are much better. I’m sure NA prime is probably insane. I don’t really have the full picture on this yet.

I’ll be looking for a T2 server to move myself and my guys to. Unfortunately, I don’t think they’ll have the patience to wait until the server shuffle next Friday, so we’ll be gambling a bit on finding a new home this evening.

Then go to FA. It’s a nice server who will be shifting between T2 and T3. You’ll find different experiences in such server.

It’s really only a gamble if you’re not willing to pay the gem fee’s and want to try and bypass it by transferring to a linked server. Mag and FA aren’t really a gamble, they will both remain in T3, unless of course Anet resets Glicko and just pulls names out of a hat for matches or willy nilly hands out another quad server to only one host.

Fecal I might as well through my hat in on this and try to nudge you in a different direction. Forget upper tiers if you wanna run 5 man havoc and below. You guys jump down to the Devona’s Rest server. You guys want some teaching and training. Hunt me up. My guild was ran havoc for a long time now as well as roaming and scouting. DR’s got some good folks and good guilds you can join up in. Doesn’t matter where we get shuffled to we just do what we do and have fun doing it. If you need help with transfer money I got a few tips for you guys as well and it wouldn’t take that long either.
