Hey guys, returning player here, just wanna know if WvW still have an active community that I can come back to in Gw2 or did the new Expansion with the New BL maps make WvW worse?

Been reading the threads in the forums, seems alot hated the New Maps and everybody just stack in EBG to even have some fun, also saw some “WvW Overhaul” threads that makes servers pointless with a Feature called “Factions/Alliance”? Not sure if true, just some threads I keep seeing.

Havent played since Sept, but thinking on buying the Expansion but I dont wanna come back if WvW is empty. Just want some cold hard facts if WvW still have people playing.

If its helps, Im from a T3 server playing timezone NA/OcX, if anyone can tell me if theres fights during those timezones.

WvW got a big hit with HoT. I´am sure you read the forums and yes, the new maps are not that well accepted. Too big, too much pve etc. Since Anet is refusing any communication here it is not sure how long this will gonna last. But if you want to read some official comment from an Anet official, the official forums is the wrong place these days. Head over to reddit, it´s the new source for official news. But to answer your question, it´may be the wrong time for returning and if you are out for wvw it is sure the wrong time for putting any money in this company.

no. i was a returning player too. i quit originally cause of the terrible GWEN only meta and then after some balance changes i started playing again and was actually kinda excited for the new specialisations etc…well, i beta tested the map, hated it, hot came out and i grinded all my classes sspecialisations and entered wvw….well even eb is not doing it for me anymore. its all dumbed down and the entire sandbox aspect of the game was taken away by either ai, autoupgrades, pve elements or automated messages that tell u when something gets capped or its all locked behind the massive wall of guild halls that rendered about 90% of guilds out there useless cause we cant unlock absolutely nothing at all.

u cant get any of the previous upgrade in wvw anymore and all hard work put in by smaller/zergbuster guilds is useless as we are starting from scratch… we barely managed to get the guildhall its self and now we have to collect flax seeds and stupid other things just to get even started….

on top of that the new map are complex, massive, vertical, pve driven pve maps with weird jumping puzzle elements, a giant lazer event that lags the entire map out and dumbe shrines that give stupid overpowered buffs and there are even invisible zerg passages…….i mean seriously after all this time and all the issues in the beginning of wvw with culling, we got now a map that makes a zerg invisible at a certain point…..

i really wanted to get my wvw fix again, but anet has ruined this game mode beyond repair unless they turn it back into the game mode it used to be, with real practical wvw maps and fair guildhalls and upgrades…well thats at least my point of view. i barely log in in as its just not fun anymore.

If you’re coming back just to play WvW, you will be disappointed. The new BL’s are avoided like a plague because it’s too hard to find fights consistently. And the fights you do find, many are plagued by excessive siege and gimmicks like lava, cripple, blowing winds, burn, etc.. So yes people do stack in EBG because it’s the place to find quick action.

This also creates huge queues for EBG during NA primetime, so if you play NA, it’s going to suck for you if you try to get into EB for this mega blobbing action.

However if you’re coming back because you want to try out the new elite specs and new rev class, then you’ll be happy because the new elite specs have overwritten the old baseline classes. It’s all about the new elite specs now and most people in WvW play with the new builds in one form or another.

There are definitely still people playing wvw. Maybe you should search for a casual raiding Guild because I rarely see pug commanders on the new borders.

But you can still easily play wvw without HoT and right now I wouldn’t recommend buying the game. Especially if you are very much wvw focused.

There are still plenty of players around, which the great thing being that everyone’s clustered onto EBG now so you don’t have to keep jumping maps for fights.

Only downside is it gets stale much faster, so there’s fewer people playing for extended periods of time, since the BLs are laggy as heck and miserable to traverse.

No matter what you do, don’t buy HoT without checking out WvW first.

If you buy and WvW turns out not to be of your liking (extremely likely), that’s $50 down the drain.

T3 NA isn’t as bad as it’s made out to be. Despite what people say here, there are people on the BLs during prime hours. There must be, as things flip and what not. It’s probably not enough people for most of the time, though.

Still, you should check it out for a while before buying, as with anything.

I would hold off for a bit before buying HoT until the “Major WvW Overhaul” hits. If it’s kitten then don’t bother. I’m sure these forums or Reddit will tell you all you need to know:)

Sup everyone was hoping for some good news, but I guess WvW really bad right now to come back even with the Expansion. I only wanted the Expansion for Elite Specs and the new Class Rev but meh not worth it, dont care much bout the new pve maps.

I probably try patching my game just to see WvW without the Expac, but still seem like a waste of time.

But thks everyone for the info guess Im saving my money for Black Desert since that game went Buy to Play for NA players, sigh even more bad news for me.

I made teh experience that takign towers and keeps happens way less now. I do still roam to find fights, but with less players on the map this is totaly unpredictable. I had a good eaveing with lots of small figts and then an hour with none …. Last time there were groups of the other realmy fighting each other but no one from my server.
I see them constantly on EB not BL.
The new BL(HOT) did reduce populaton and thats just bad.

Simple answer is No, the new map have every flaw you can add and no upside.

As others have said HoT just isnt worth the 50 bucks. It is hard not to feel ripped off after paying that.

But when it drops to19.99 id be all in! Or maybe even 29.99 if you like pve some.

I would say no. WvW is in a very poor state right now. It was pretty bad even before HoT and clearly what Anet thinks is fun in WvW as represented in the new map, is not very fun. Even the “Major WvW Overhaul” is very likely to be more of the same, Anet’s “vision for WvW” which it turns out, is lame.

If you plan on coming back, i’d say this might be the last chance to still see WvW with some people in it if you are on a high tier server.
If nothing changes then the game mode will bleed out over the next few months and there really won’t be anything left to come back to.
Just don’t waste money on HoT.

Don’t buy the expansion if you’re coming back to WvW mostly.

Otherwise, it’s probably worth a look around NA time, less so OCX.

That is not true, we have guild vs guild fights on borders almost every day, but a bit too late for our timezone (somehow the enemy guilds are starting after 21.00 CET while we end our raid around 22.00 CET…).

BTW if I’m not mistaken, Entenkommando is on SFR.

It’s fun mostly. You don’t really find people outside prime time anymore but I don’t really care if the borders are empty at 10pm or 11pm. Not much of a difference to pre hot from my experience.

To me HOT is around a $10-$19.99 expansion, but not $50. I deeply regret spending the $50.

I came back some time before HOT, but still mostly for HOT and now I am logging in less and less, just lost the fun. Many people have different reasons but I will give you mine:

1. overall decline in community, less options to hop on TS and pug – this is the biggest reason

2. Failed condi balance – in any organized or vs any organized groups condis are completely and utterly worthless, I am basically running power builds with hard CC just like back in GWEN prime time except instead of GWEN its now insertnameofnewelitespec. So boring power based builds. I get too much of the “been there done that” feeling even on the new elite specs, because the power builds are basically same crap just somewhat different graphics and somantics.

3. HOT made being outnumbered in fights much worse then it used to be, because they increased the map caps so now you have even bigger blobs vs same outnumbered groups.

4. New map failed in design, was supposed to make blobs break up – it failed
was supposed to make defending vs blobs easier – it failed

5. there is an even bigger reward disparity on “per total time and effort spent” basis in wvw vs pve.

6. small guilds are nearly extinct, very few are left and still running mostly because the guild hall upgrades made them completely useless, this further contributes to decrease in population and problem in point 1.

Hopes were high in WvW community before the release of HoT. Many guilds and solo players took a break until the release of HoT, many of them came back when HoT was released, but basically all of them quit again, along with those that didn’t even take a break. WvW has never been in a worse state than it is now…

It could have been much more…

Short answer: No. Not worth it anymore.

I say don’t spend anything on HoT until you’ve been in the “updated” WvW for yourself. Go spend some time in there and have a look around. I’m sure everyone that has responded to you in this thread would be interested in your thoughts/impressions of the new BL, new autoupgrade system, etc.

I fully agree, so hard to understand how it came to this bitter shambles.

I’m on T8 and the group I played with earlier this year are all gone. Nearly all the familiar names are gone to. Ocassionally see a name in EB, EotM or HoT – though becoming rarer.

Most of us remaining, who loved the earlier WVW go to EB but its often empty and you can see players standing, probably waiting for others to turn up – its sad seeing a single green dot just waiting – however sometimes a group forms for a short time and it can seem like the old times except just one good map EB so no jumpimg between maps to outwit the opposition.

The new borderlands are huge and very complex so if you don’t enter with a group you would have a hard time finding or catching them up – I’ve tried many times and gave up after 20 minutes being alone. Perhaps joining a new Guild might help in this respect

There is a lot of action in EotM, still large zergs and good fights but of course its not the same aim as old Borderlands where the emphasis was on winning the server.

Personally I wish I had never bought HoT because for me GW2 is about WvW and the current WvW is not for me. Not sure if I will still be here if or when it improves.

My suggestion. don’t buy HoT unless you want the masteries – just login and see how it goes for you. Sadly the old days are gone so just be grateful you were there.

HoT isn’t worth the cost. Not even with the new class and everything. I wish I had not bought it.

The new borderlands are avoided due to “how” they have a lot more pve in them, as well as map/layout design. (And lack of fights.)

Guild upgrades are horribly expensive and time consuming.

I go to the new BL maps only when guild raids go there to keep PPT up, otherwise Im in EBG. (Or playing beta’s to other games.)

Befor the exp i never played on EB. Now i only play on it, so its new for me.

The new map is a kittening maze with added PvE kittens. The old map was much better in that regards and was fun to play in. I usually stayed in BL and did stuffs like upgrading keeps/camps, walking yaks and scouting while avoiding EBG as much as possible but with HoT, its the opposite – Absolutely dread going to the BLs. Can’t wait for the day till they bring back the Alpine BL.

No. Don’t buy the expansion or return to playing for WvW in its current state.

Participation is low, fights are few and far between, and small group objective capturing is severely diminished.

Participation is low even on higher tier servers, but on higher tier servers you at least have a lot playing in EB at least, may not see many friendly allies in the BLs as they are rather not friendly to this sort of game play.

Also if you don’t have the expansion, and get it, you’ll be in PvE a lot more cause you’ll want to level your elite spec as well as to level your masteries to at least 50 or more. That’s a lot of PvE stuff… and at least get the mentor tag so if you have a Mesmer you can pop mentor tag for the zerg to see where you are to have you portal them into an objective. You don’t need it, but it helps especially when you aren’t in the squad of the commander.

If I had to do it again, I think I would likely not have gotten the expansion personally, but having it and well won’t be playing the story again likely wasn’t that great… more hype than great. and WvW didn’t really get anything HoT required added to it. You can go to the new BLs without having HoT… so why bother?

No do not buy the expansion, read around on forums and you’ll see why. I’ve watched a few live streamers on twitch as well voice their complaints and the majority make great points on the state of wvw and pvp. Anet just isn’t ready for the big stage with their esports dream.

I find myself using old builds for roaming or small raids that seem to work better than all the over hyped bs stuff like greatsword on necro.

If I had the choice like others, I would have never given anet my money and will not make that mistake again.

Wait for the WvW revamp. It is the only hope for WvW at this point.

Neglect and Hubris, no signs of change in that.
Maybe whatever they’re doing now will be good, will fix things that should have been fixed 3 years ago.. Will all the people who left notice even if it is? That’s the scary thing for WvW now.

Server matchups are a joke. I wouldn’t come back just for WvW at this point.

All you get is a new traitline, class, and a new weapon if you play WvW only. Not worth it at all. WvW is in the worst state it has ever been. Instead of fixing lag. They added more gimmicks, more pve, and stupid vertical maze style designed maps. It’s so horrible right now.

The devs who made the first WvW mode had the right idea. Wounder what happened to them.

I suspect the dev behind thief and warrior got together, got busy under the sheets, and had a kitten child that they named Revenant.

Don’t even get me started on the ridiculousness that is Daredevil/Chronomancer. They took the cancerous players that require cancerous amusement (there is no skill involved in these two professions, don’t derail the thread with your kitten plox if you main one of these, its why I substituted the word skill for “amusement”) and made them stronger with endless evasion animations/long range stun STACK skills.

At this point I will be getting my money back one way or another. Do not buy HoT for wvw. PvE developers may have the best intentions but they have absolutely no business designing competitive MMO maps.

Don’t forget Dragon Banner ( https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon_Banner) or Turtle Banner( https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Turtle_Banner ). Not many guilds got them yet ,but after more will CoR will look like child’s toy.

I would say no, but then, the WvW action on my world has gone down drastically since HoT came out and the numbers seem to keep dropping.

This is 5th week with outnumbered buff present 90%, pretty much sucks.
