WvWvW - Fun for the short term, not the long term.

I have a blast in WvW for a few hours, but thinking anything beyond the short term, i feel, is poor.

It is a few things.

1. Rewards are formed to not promote long term play while at the same time not encouraging players to play. Badges, for example, hardly every drop. A group can hold out against a siege for 10 mins, which I did today, and kill at least 15 people while only getting 2 badges. The pure fact that people say the best way to get badges in WvW is to do puzzles is a sign that this system is flawed. I mean, doing puzzles.to get pvp gear.in a pvp gamemode.

2. The way buffs work. Once people get the buffs or meet their monthly quota, they don’t really want to play anymore. There needs to be something to keep players coming back for more. I dont know what, but I just don’t feel it encourages players. Here is some proof.

Look at the losing servers. Especially third places people. IT seems every match I’ve been in, one server dominates by at least 100,000 points. This further causes people to quit on one server, while promoting full ques on the winning server. Hell most third place people always have outmanned, it seems like. Players don’t see a point in joining, especially when they are so discouraged that they don’t want to try.

3. Nightcapping. I know, i know. So many post about this, and its a pickle to solve. While it is fair to say that all players from all regions have the right to play when they want, many players don’t want to spend the time caring about places they own, why? They say things like “its going to be gone in the morning, id rather not waste the gold” or some variation of it. While solving night capping may not be the answer to this, maybe some how adding special guild upgrades when a area that your guild has claimed and you still hold for a certain amount of time. It doesn’t have to be consecutive, so like holding SM for 5 mins is one reward, then for 10, then for 20, and so on and so forth. I notice there is a future content slot in the weaponsmith, im hoping this will add something good. P.S, the I know trying to recruit guilds from different timezones is a solution, but I feel this is a bad solution. Entire guilds shouldn’t have to switch.

It just seems WvW doesn’t reward players enough in the short term to keep them coming back and encouraged to come back, and it doesn’t seem to reward them enough in the long term to make them stay and care.

This is just my opinion and I know how some people on this forum can go full rage Anet defense, but I honestly don’t feel that WvW has lived up to the prerelease hype.

Fun.

I suppose if you run solo to a far away camp and die to a zerg force, it’s no fun. But if you’re doing anything with friends, or your own team zerg, it’s fun. Fun is the key here, it’s what you’ve been missing in other games that they’ve tried to blind you from by offering you point progression and ‘rewards’ for playing, instead of ‘FUN’ being the reward for playing.

Mind BLOWN.

Most matches seem decided in the first 72 hours. I think if the cut the duration back to 72 hours youd have higher morale, more participation.

When you dominating why do people still login? There is nothing to cap and as you say no-one to kill, since other sides are outmanned? So what exactly is the point? Convenient crafting station location?
On a server that is getting pounded raiding with outmanned buff is ridiculously profitable and the whole world if your oyster, you can hit anything you want when you want.
We capped a tower in Mag borderland with my tiny guild today cause they were busy hunting our micro zerg on other side of the map. Mag has 3 orbs and totally owns by now. Question is, what do their players do for fun, babysit their holdings for hours having a dance off?

I wouldn’t have as much fun. 1 week gives us a chance to retake the lead by the oceanic server, get our 5- hour energy drinks, snacks—- you get the idea. 2 weeks will give us even more time to swing things around, learning from previous matches. Maybe combined with the slow down of free server transfers as well as ability to move guild upgrades (-fingers crossed-), we can even begin stabalizing a 24/7 community in many servers for WvWvW as people finish their PvE content.

Transfers need to be shut off from WvW. Until that happens it will all be meaningless. Also teams that are losing / undermanned still need more incentive to fight.

I don’t believe in a “fix-all” solution, but I do agree with OP that – at least to me – it would be more enjoyable in shorter durations. Everyone complaining about the length will find something else to complain about, or maybe keep complaining about the length, but I have a feeling most would approve of the shortened matches.
