So, I am on a mid-tier server on the way up, Dragonbrand. Having a lot of fun in WvWvW. And I had a moment yesterday that made me realize something.
This game is fun and I do not care what the score is. I do not care if we are winning or losing during the week. Why? I realized when I had fun:
Last night, we took Bay as an attacker and knew that we would lose it about 20 minutes later when they started trebbing the wall from Garrison. We were okay with it. What did we do? We set up about 4 arrow carts, 4 ballistas and a pair of catapults to hit that breech. We kept it for 30 minutes until the walls upgraded! We were upset because the wall repaired!!! Later, we did not care if it was taken.
I came away realizing that it did not matter what the score was. It did not matter if we were losing or winning. For a couple of hours taking the tower near our spawn point, taking the camp and then subsequently the keep, we had fun trading blows and finding a way to take a piece of land. We did not care if we kept it through the night. Just that we took it for a while.
I look at the ranking ladder amongst our worlds and I realize that being on the number 1 server is meaningless. All I want is to find a good group of people to run with me for an hour or two and take everything we can.
If the other server is stomping and resetting everything we held so dearly, then let’s just be happy with two or three spots and defend it with all of our strength. People hate seeing that lone supply camp flipped, but that just means you have something to fight. I hate seeing my Battle Land monochromatic. It means there is no action going on.
And that is the point of WvWvW. Action. Not having the best score, not having your BL painted one color. It is about taking what you can and bringing the fight to your enemies door step.
Bring on the massive battles and forget the complaining about not being number 1. You know who I pity? #1. They have too much stress in their lives. They have to live with being on top and the stress with trying to stay up there.
Just my rambling thoughts.
