Instead of the servers being 1v1v1, can it be more like 3v3v3, and your points at the end get added to your own servers pool? Because people flock to higher tier servers and abandon the lower tier servers, which are pretty much empty.

Basically ANET could close servers 12-24 move their populations to the remaining 12 leaving 12 full servers to divide in to 3 battle groups then subdivide those groups where you could maintain league play. But closing servers sends a message that your game is dying so dont hold your breath for it happening anytime soon.

Asgla : 12 servers would bring back the hours long queues on most maps no one wants.

24/27 servers is far too much though (the game never had the players to sustain that much in the beginning in the first place, Anet did like all other MMO editors and jumped the gun on creating new servers they didn’t need, hurting the population overall), but 12 isn’t enough.

18 would work nicely for both EU and NA and still give the various type of fighting/WvW for all tastes.

Closing servers doesnt work for a number of reasons, the biggest being that it would break apart established communities (even on small servers) and potentially split guilds apart.

Also (and again, its a bad idea), but if they did close servers and we were shooting for 18 servers (or even 12), it would make more sense to close the top few rather than the bottom few. That way you would actually spread the population out better – closing the bottom populated servers would have virtually no impact (but, again, that isnt the way they should handle this – server battlegroups are the way to go).
