It seems the only thing we get out of doing WvWvW is bonuses to crafting/karma etc… The loot is awful, the gear is on par with PvE; however there is only 1 set which is recycled PvE skins and the cost is immense in comparison to PvE gear. And because anet decided to make JUMPING PUZZLES the best way to acquire honor that’s what people do instead of objectives.

Your Realm/Server doesnt “win” because everything is reset after a week, there’s no final battle or objective between realms, just endless musical objectives. Commander title is bought with Gold which is …surprise something acquired through PvE. Did it never run across anyones mind to have it cost honor points (10k or so would ensure they at least have an idea what to do)?

This may be a bad example but in Warhammer online your realm took objectives which gave bonuses for the eventual keep seige that if taken locked down the zone and pushed the war closer to the enemies fort. Once you took enough forts it opened the gates to the enemy factions home city which converted into a PvP raid (which was impossibly hard for the attacking faction). This was something that took tons of coordination between guilds and was something that was lucky to happen once a week. It felt epic like after so long something has finally came out of taking all these objectives and keeps.

WvWvW just doesnt have this feeling, fixing culling is a good step but if you dont change the entire mechanic of how it operates I dont see a reason as a PvP centric player to stray from SPvP.

since the loot fix the puzzles are not the best way.

still wvwvw is just a big game of musical chairs. it does get stale pretty quick.

Bristleback can’t hit anything? Let’s fix the HP bug instead.

I think it’s silly to think the purpose of anything should be loot, levels or abilities.

I just want it to be fun and interesting.

The problem with WvW is that it’s too small and fluid to have any long-term strategy. Whereas EVE can have strategies that span months or years and WW2O can have strategies that evolve over weeks, WvW has strategies that span no more than about 60 minutes. There’s no real sense of long term investment in what’s going on.

It needs to be a lot bigger and it needs to have a lot more depth to the map content if we want it to be a full, stand-alone game mode that can entertain people for years.

As it stands it’s basically just an usually large sPvP area and most people felt they had played it out after a few months. Adding loot, levels and abilities won’t change that.

I agree. We need rewards worth fighting over.

I think it would be cool if my server won, someone from the servers we beat, would have to pay to have a maid come to my house and cleanup for 2 hours.

I’d definitely play a little harder to win something like that, and when my house was vacuumed and dusted and the dishes all put away, I would know that all those towers I defended and all those yaks I jacked were worth it.

hmm yeah The badges have increased a lot and my bank is almost full with it now.I wish they’d make it so badges are treated like a currency with no 250 limitation.

I do agree with the facts the op brought up though.I would love to see a new way to get keeps and maybe new ways to upgrade the keeps too.
-new ways of sieging
-no more pvdooring
-new rewards, better ranks, new loot, a lot more armor and weapon skins
-maybe rewards for getting keeps like a chest or so
-new unique things only available for wvw
-character growth and developement
-new maps or even better changing maps
-balance for servers (the losing server gets fully upgraded keeps with more protection, so larger zergs have to work a little harder)
-Serverpoints or something like that that could unlock new keep upgrades or so(not sure about this one as it could lead to unbalance aswell)
-maybe people have to complete a task or so in order to get to the castle
-put smc lord on top floor and not bottom
-new commander system
-add citizens npcs
-add new requirements for upgrades not just supply camps also something economy wise

just add more spice to wvw, because it’s starting to become dull and burning a lot of people out

Wow never thought I’d see someone praising WAR in relation to GW2. What I remember is the game was a buggy incomplete mess with nothing delivering on what they promised, fine as the ambitions might have been.

GW2’s WvW is far closer to resembling an interconnected war type scenario, what with the siege and logistics aspects. And despite the misgivings over the Glicko rating, which is far from perfect, it has produced far more competitive matches than I remember in Warhammers mostly horribly lobsided faction wars.

You can’t have permanent gains in WvW or one side starts quitting. Look, even with matches resetting every week, see how people migrating to winning servers still screwed so much up. If winning wasn’t any kind of its own reward, why did so many people bandwagon?

But as far as longer term rewards, those will be coming in the March update I presume, at least in terms of an individual, which is probably the better place to give permanent gains anyway.

Been saying this. There is no real point to WvWvW, a great time can be had in the skirmishes, I love the raiding but overall the game mode has no outcome other than rankings (either way it’s rinse and repeat). All the currency, time and effort invested can be undone in minutes and trying to ensure it doesn’t happen can just cost you more (tower sitting is boring and it’s really bad knowing that it can all be gone if you turn your back for ten minutes, it can quickly become more stressing than fun).

I applaud commanders for putting up with it especially given the lack of tools available, I know I couldn’t do it. They should have left well enough alone with alliance battles.

I wouldn’t care about loot if Anet hadn’t decided to make stat chasing and gold hoarding such a huge part of this game but as it stands the rewards don’t keep pace with alts and the numerous sinks peppered throughout the whole game so I’m forced to care if I don’t want to be at a disadvantage.

puzzles I think you’re confused in terms of the gear. There’s two sets of Invaders armor. There is the one you can buy for karma, which is all recycled various PVE skins. Then there is the Invader armor you can buy for badges, and while I don’t know about the heavy one, I do know the light and the medium are unique skins. I personally am really coveting the boots and hood from the light set.

While your comment about WAR may be true, another truth (for me, personally) is that I have yet to have anywhere near the amount of fun in GW2, as I did in WAR. I truly had a blast in that game, and was sad it crashed and burned so badly. Ultimately, I played Warhammer for almost two years, the same won’t be said for this game.

They must have taken my marbles away.
But they gave me plenty of porous bones to compensate.

At the end of the day, WvW is really nothing more than a team building excercise. You find a community and you become a part of this large problem solving unit whereby you find purpose and meaning in your life. Much like a cult, if you buy into it, you begin to assimiliate its successes with your own, and its failures as well. Bow to the server, the server must win, it must gain rating ever moving up and I must collect all the bags I can while it happens because thats a win too. ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY SERVER!

More stuff in WvW will make it better, of course.

As for lack of purpose… go back to PvE and don’t worry about it!

I prefer a game structure where fighting people is a means to an end rather than an end in itself.

I really hope they give me something to work for with this next patch.

There is a great game for you to try….I hear at one time they had12+ million subs during their heyday and was the envy of all. That particular game had a great carrot at the end of the stick, endless hamster treadmill gear grind. I believe you woud love it!

At a bare minimum, I should be able to self fund my WvW experience with the rewards I get for playing it. I think Anet are doing this intentionally to keep us attached to the casuals.

Have you played since the last patch? With the increase in loot drops I no longer feel this is a problem. PvE players still make several times more money per hour but WvW is at least sustainable now. I actually leveled up my support Guardian in WvW — I had previously stopped at level 40 because he wasn’t getting any loot. Now he gets loot galore just by spamming his staff attack in between support abilities.

I do wish we got something in WvW that PvE players wanted to buy, though. That might help send some cash our direction.

Or maybe at the end of the week, all WvW players get mailed money based on their contribution for the week….

Basically, WvW incomine is still a lot worse than PvE but it’s a lot better today than last month.

(Especially on Jade Quarry. I could see a lowpop server still complaining about WvW money but zergfest servers should produce more bags than you can easily loot. I get plenty of “bag explosions” in T5.)

Look, nobody ever said that this “just a yet another mmo” would be onpair with Eve online. It can be argued that Eve is the only real mmorpg avaible*, so it really isn’t fair to compare some dumbed down, modern “mmo” with it.

Personally I stick to this game only because it’s sort of a habit (due to gw1), online friends, fairly good graphics and because the combat fun. Everything else in this game is seriously lacking. WvW has potential, but currently it feels like it was in some alpha state or something. The maps are small and there isn’t much you can do, and anything you do, has no impact lasting longer than 15minutes.

*Anyone who hasn’t tried it and argues otherwise, should try it. It’s completly differend world from the petty wow-clones you are used to.

You know, playing tic tac toe can also be hilarious, but most people have higher standards. And besides, wvw isn’t even that hilarious anymore. Not now that they nerffed wood planks and other fun consumables.
