Www lag/Why none talk about real problem?
Last patch screwed something up… I rarely get major lag outside of SM, and since that last patch/update whatever it was random disconnects have been occurring like crazy. Not just to me… but many people on DR.

yeah they did something this last patch that made things a LOT worse. What is so frustrating is I remember back in beta when the skill lag started. about 2 weeks before they closed the beta suddenly we have skill lag. before that we could have 100 people on the fight in a keep, after you get 40 people together in the open and bam skill lag. They got it better since then but they had the code working at one point then screwed it all up.
Stat increase = gear grind.
Gear grind = no money from me ever again.
Agreed, it has gotten worse; but they have acknowledged (not too recently) that they are working on the problem. If it was something easy it would already be worked out, but managing that much data all on the server side is probably rather difficult to figure out unfortunately.
what are you guys calling the “last patch”? It has been a lot worse for me and guildies for the last month since the middle of Flame and Frost or longer so I am not sure which last patch people keep talking about because the threads last week said the same thing and we’ve had 2 patches since then or are is only major patches that count? I am confused. =/
And lots of people have been talking about the skill lag issues for quite some time but maybe not ANET so much. I don’t expect to hear a lot from them until they are well on the way to fixing the problem since the last time there was a peep was back in March when the “next patch” was suppose to be a start of many yet to come improvements to skill lag. I worry they did make some decent headway back then and decided to raise the WvW map population caps to celebrate which put us back into the same bloody mess as before only worse cuz now we get killer zergs along with killer skill lag. Yes SM is an old story in that regard but now it is everywhere including at your spawn when no speed boosts will fire.

ANet’s servers are incapable of handling the clashes of big groups in an area at one time. This is why we need a WvW population balance, i.e. a flexible cap, and create more maps for us to battle on. Anyone crying about “a cap is gonna limit contents from players” is all crap and you deserve to play in a laggy, smashing #1, and fail WvW system, which we’re currently in. All skills worked just fine before culling was fixed, so guess what, ANet only fixed culling by shifting processes, not recoding. Hence the skill lag problems began. There were no threads, at all, complaining about skill lags before culling was fixed. The ONLY problem right now, and has always been the problem, is the inability to take a stand on implementing a cap due to fear of outcries over it. Whether it’s skill lag or rendering, they’re symptoms of over crowding on servers that clearly can’t handle the mass gathering of people on top of skills usage. This is why we need a population cap on each maps, per server, along with plenty more maps to battle on rather than just 4. Stop defending the notion of “cap prevents game play” because a true and balance system would have a cap for each competing servers. How enjoyable is WvW, your game play, right now with all the issues caused by overcrowding of servers? How enjoyable is your class when you can only use #1 or how #6 fail to activate when you need it to? Address the freaking unbalance WvW population already and stop beating around the bush. Implement a cap and expand more maps so people can enjoy WvW w/o queues or long ones. It’s been nearly 1 year and the philosophy of “we don’t believe in a cap” is failing miserably. Culling was the first sign, warning, of a failing philosophy.

I agree with most of that but I am not so sure we even need more maps to deal with the current WvW populations across worlds. I play on a top tier world that tends to have a least 2 maps outmanned 12hrs out of the day. I guess it depends on how low of WvW population caps they have to resort to and what they are now since we are never allowed to know the numbers behind the scenes. ><
I could see them pulling the Obsidian Sanctum out as its own map, expanding it to include a waypoint spawn safe zone for each team with maybe one camp like area to capture and defend, banning seige weapons on the map and putting a huge open green field on top of the underground jumping puzzle portion of the map perfect for GvGing (think Agramon from New Frontiers without bridges or gates). Bet that would be a popular place. Then they would just need to replace the Inner Sanctum on EB with a series of catacomb like tunnels connecting the Valley / Lowlands / Overlook / keeps for underground assaults and sneakiness.
Anyways, YES! Lower WvW map populations caps and lets see how the game performs then.

Threads about lag are becoming as numerous as stealth threads.

Perhaps, the game was not meant to be played as three giant lag creating blobs per map?
Perhaps, it was not their intent for a majority of the game to cram themselves into the top 5 servers?

+1 this is unacceptable…..and when i’m talking about this problem i’m not reffering to disconnection…that maybe caused by a faulty adsl line (i have a solid one) but the “swap” and “skill delay” that we have during fight. I’m not gonna leave this thread die…i will keep this updated until we have an answer and i invite you guys to do the same in this or similar thread.

There was a clear message from Devs that skill lags would not have a silver-bullet resolution, but will require continuous work on optimizing the engine. Since then there were at least two cases of such optimizations implemented:

Of course whether these optimizations are noticeable and of any value is a matter of separate discussion. I would say yes, lags were much more rampant a couple of months ago. But I don’t have a way to measure the difference independently.
My point is, your statement “Since then, no update on any resolution, if any is forthcoming” is false.

Well and if this is the optimization let me tell you (3 months for this) ….. go back with some step…. lag it getting WORSE……..this is not a clear message …..2 stealthy lines in a patch note. I wonder when they published this games …..why they did not tested all this problems in a OPEN BETA…..all this problems were clear……This is not a Simple problem ok…. but this not even a LESSER problem ….This is a HUGE problem that make people QUIT GAME!

I’ve spent quite some time digging into forum archives but couldn’t come up with a single definitive post to support my statement. Maybe it was a blog post or I just missed it.
However, for a person who was tracking progress regarding skill delays for quite some time, that’s what is the picture numerous posts from Devs over almost a year on this topic (and that of culling) left in my head. You may want to dig into posts history of Anet’s Habib Loew and Devon Carver who replaced Habib on WvW forums some time ago to get the idea.
I agree though that messaging around work to eliminate skill lags is a bit stale lately.

They are not more stealthy than everything else in patch notes. Outside of Anet forum posts, patch notes are THE source to stay informed on what’s up with the game in details.

sorry i mean… overall (over 3 moth) it slowly getting better…. but last 2 week were terrible. that why “some step back”.

3) it my fault yeah…that the point….if in a 3×3 there are so much people that i cannot even cast speed or heal out my workcamp.
4) uhm Ruin of Surmia…have you ever met Vizuna? dont know really..if you did you know what i’m talking about.

Let’s do this at least for now until the servers are capable of handling bigger zergs, we at least have a temporary fix. Who knows, it might become a permanent fix as potentially some guilds may move out to help balance out the WvW population on other servers…

Population control is the only fix but people will start calling foul. I don’t get it. I don’t think people realize that you can’t have balance when you allow any one server to vastly outman the other two. You can’t have a smooth system w/o lag when you allow so many players on the same map, especially when you KNOW! your servers can’t handle it. It amazes me the arrogance, or maybe just ignorance, ANet has shown so far. Maybe they’re so understaffed or just extremely slow to respond to issues.

Haha i am in one of the top wvw guilds from SFR bro! Im on this server because there is no lag when fighting and the fights are reasonably sized. No i didnt come here to troll, im stating fact. Lagging? Split up, its easy. orrrr move to another server!… Problem solved

The lag in large battles was much better with culling. It basically began (skill lag) when culling was turned off.
