Wxp Farming
I think besides them redoing the rankings so that low-pop servers are facing low-pop servers, there’s nothing much they can about real game play. There might be stuff they can do with ratings, but that won’t help your actual game play experience…people have tried suggesting buffs, but in my mind those only punish high-pop servers, and the people on that server originally can’t help it if people start coming to it. I hope that once the new system comes out, low-pop servers will be faced with low-pop servers mostly, that way there won’t be such an imbalance.
The bottom line is: if you’re enemy outnumbers you 2-1 or 3-1, there’s not much that can be done when it comes to holding and keeping your stuff that anet can do.

I absolutely agree. Blacktide with twice as many players as Fissure of Woe and Vabbi can make them feel like mobs to be farmed. What is the point in palying WvW when you are outnumbered by higher-leveld enemy? People from lower-populated servers can’t even complete any location apart from thier own borderlands except hours after midnight when groups of 5 people are trying to conquer something while everyone is sleeping. Am I supposed to stay awake all night in front of my PC to get 100% world completion? People from such servers are seeing this situation and changing them so high-populated grow even more stronger and low-populated weaker. Fight between them becomes impossible and transforms into a farm for those who chose bigger servers and everyone who decided not to change server can forget about having fun at WvW. Something must be done or people will just stop playing WvW.
I’m not the only one whose account got stuck with all caps!
I love you guys!
As an occasional WvW player it’s really discouraging to see that one server owns everything. Offense is the best defense does not apply cause basically the biggest zerg wins.
WvW was meant to be a cross-server competitive battlefield but in fact with the recent changes it started to be a farm-fest for high pop servers. I think that it’s also discouraging to see that your server owns everything because you don’t have any field for playing. IMO joining a zerg or a 15-25 team is not too rewarding.
The state that WvW is in right now is due to a couple of things:
1. WvW gameplay rules (keeps, caravans, supply sites)
2. Character mechanics (AoE buffs and fields)
3. Communication possibilities (5-man party, map chat, guild chat)
4. Server population
The gameplay rules promote roaming in groups (the bigger the better) this works out great on PvE because event difficulty scales with the number of players participating but on WvW it’s possible to get a supply camp with 2 players so more people = stomp. There are no challenges in conquests.
More people = more area buffs = even more stomp. This does not make any sense.
Imagine 2 groups:
g1 – 5 people
g2 – 10 people
g1 can keep g2 at a distance and even manage to kill some g2 members without losses bit then downed players get upped again by other g2 members. If somebody in g1 falls it = retreat cause the odds are bad.
This situation makes the game dynamic and fast paced but if you multiply the populations of groups by 10 it starts to get messy because there’s no efficient way to communicate and organize. It turns into skirmishes where persistence wins, not strategy.
Resolving this is crazy hard to do. The community will complain of there will be to many nerfs and/or buffs. Complaining on the current state is easy, finding an efficient solution is the hard part.
Possible partial solutions:
- Better WvW event balancing that takes defender to attacker ratio into account.
- Outmanned buff rebalancing.
- Server matching based on population.
- Adding more communication options for bigger groups.
Implementing all of this probably will not improve the situation but there is room for other improvements.
I would love to hear comments from the staff on this. I’m sure complaints reached them and they are working out ways to remedy this but from my experience they keep such stuff to themselves except rare occasions.
