Your Favorite/Least Favorite Builds in WvW
I have played every profession and there are reasons why I do not care for some but others love them. For that reason I will only push what ones I like.
Condi Necro for ability to drop condi’s, aggro with pets and kiting. In WvW I can either roam or group with my build and do fairly well at 1v1 depending who I am up against.
Thief for power smash and make quick of a mob. Thief in WvW for ability to roam but run and poof when necessary because my build is built for roaming and not really fighting but in a group I can sustain with the buffs I get.
Ranger plays much differently and I have really haven’t decided on which build is better. condi is a little too fast for my fingers but power plus pet can take down mobs in a hurry. I don’t roam in WvW with it as I group for wall attacks of cannons, enemies and such. Just have to know your role and how not to die in any profession. Natural stride for the perma 33% movement is nice when mapping or need to get to the fight in WvW., Best movement speed of the game as it is traited and gives me another slot for trap or what have you.
Last for me is Mesmer. I rarely WvW and use for porting when jumps fail (hehe) and HP runs solo because every HP I can solo with the illusions doing all the dying. I don’t spend much time on her but when I do I just want to have some fun and chill. I can farm HPs in hopes of something worthy to sell.
All in all most time is spent on Necro with Thief as a close second.
Consumed Hate – Thief
Unlucky Scrub – Ranger
ghost thief cause I’m sure we all still have PTSD from that godforsaken build.
I use it but it is just so godkitten satisfying 100-0ing someone from stealth. I literally feel like a jumpscare straight out of a horror game and for that reason, I just can’t get enough of the build.
Kthen
kek!
Invocation sword/shield staff revenant. It has a higher burst potential than thief (maybe not as high as Mesmer) without any stealth carry. The reliance on active evasion and blocks brings me back to old sword dagger thief.
Another thing is I really like the attitude you need on revenant when facing all the condi kitten in WvW (thanks dire and trailblazer!). You can hardly outright cleanse: you need to think of other ways to handle condis, whether it be infuse light, waiting out confusion and torment stacks using shield 5, etc.
And you need to play aggressive as hell which is the primary reason I love power revenant. Kill the kitten out of them or be killed, that’s how I play.

Interesting, I did not know one could enjoy Rev so much after the nerfs (you must be quite dedicated!). I’ve been thinking of taking up the class for a while now and I’d love to know how you feel it fairs against the other classes.
My 2 favorites are:
Condi reaper – full cancer – cause after playing this game since early launch I got so bored with power builds I actually quit for a while. Luckily then A-Net decided to do the 1st round of serious condi boosts. Honestly condi builds in general, except for my healers, is whats still interesting for me, not just in WVW but across all game modes.
Full heals tablet rev – the only healing power / power toon I still enjoy that is not condi. Its awesome, just awesome and very powerful in the right team. IMHO leaves every other profession and their heal builds in the dust, but unfortunately, it takes a good commander and a somewhat competent team comp to take advantage of it, so doesn’t get played too often except guild runs or the more serious open raids sponsored and ran by guilds that know what they’re doing.
The 2 builds that I dislike ? There really aren’t any. If you played the game long enough then you realize theres a hard counter for everything, you just need to allocate half the time you spend on complaints into actually putting yours together. If you get sent to the spawn, just bust it out and its payback time.

If you feel comfortable enough with something, the state of it won’t matter to you.
I’ve been playing roughly the same build on my Necromancer for 3+ years only making small changes here and there after balance patches.
Which, to go with the topic of the thread, is probably my favorite build. It’s a vanilla Necromancer Scepter/Dagger + either Staff or Dagger/Warhorn, Blood Magic/Parasitic Contagion vampire build. I have health regeneration akin to Healing Signet if I maintain enough condition pressure via PC + siphons and/or Wells and decent Life Force build from Spectrals and Marks/MH Dagger/Warhorn.
It is obviously a very niche personal build, I’ve never seen anyone else using anything similar, but I love it regardless. At least when I can handle my targets (meaning they’re not blasting through my health in 0.5 seconds) by kiting them properly and playing intelligently, I can sustain myself for an incredibly long time. I’ve had many, many 1vX fights where the other players simply couldn’t bring me down. The most memorable time this happened was against a heal support Guardian and meta Berserker that were roaming together. I had seen them a few times through out the night but only wound up forced in to an engagement with them once. Basically the Guardian was boon buffing and heal/cleansing the Warrior while the Warrior did all the damage. The 3 of us fought for at least a good 15 – 20 minutes before I literally walked away because they couldn’t kill me and I couldn’t kill them, lol. For some people, that’s a crappy fight, but I love long fights, so I found it really fun even if it was a draw.
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius

I tend to see it like you do and I like your views. I like to try every class/build/weaponset that I can because it’s actually fun to see what makes them work and the counters involved. When I get killed mercilessly by a roamer/ganker/zerg/whatever do I salty message them? No. I move on and try to learn the heck out of what I didn’t do right cos I know besides getting better there may be something I can do to my build that may counter it the next time I come across it, or at least I’ll be able to handle it better. I think all these people who salty message need to take this into consideration no matter how mad they get, if they change their mode of thinking they might be surprised of how less stressful it can be by just letting go and moving on and instead try getting motivated into finding out how to beat the enemy no matter how many times you die. I admire people that keep coming back after being killed so many times – people will often call that noobish but in the end they are trying to deal with it and learn. It may look silly overall like “haha noob doesn’t learn his lesson” but at least they try.
I run this in WvW on my DH. Very , Very effective for me.

Funny enough, most of the big nerfs didn’t hit WvW Rev for the raoaming build, most of the nerfs only ht PvP for power Rev. Power Rev is still formidable in Roaming.

Yep you’re right. Equilibrium and SotM nerfs were the big ones that didn’t make it out of PvP. I think of it as levelling the playing field since most roamers are d/p thieves (my OG main!) or condition builds. They can pulm me 4k, burn me 5k a tick. But I’ll land a 6k legend swap and 8k SotM on them.

GS/Rifle Glass warrior is probably my favorite. A screen full of damage, the burst durability to use your damage against any number of enemies, and the tools to cut through most of the game’s most common crutches.
Least favorite is by far Druid.
Instead of writing a book or more on why Druid is easily the stupidest roaming spec in the game, I’ll just put it like this: Druid is likely the only spec in the entire game that can run literally any stat combination and be at minimum decent. Extremely mobile, flexible damage ranges, lots of stealth, reliable damage, high durability (even in glass).
i’ve never seen another of its kind, but my guild mate has some magic cele ranger build. i do not like fighting it.
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
I have currently 18 level 80 characters and 5 of them I play mostly in WvW and the others in PvE things.
The ones I enjoy in WvW are
D/D Power Thief with super high end burst damage – Roaming mostly
D/D Hybrid Thief Balanced power and condition damage and dishing out crazy high damage – Roaming mostly
Scepter/Focus Reaper Full super high end condi damage and I get targeted every time on this character at very first of every zerg fight because of amount of condi damange I can dish out very quickly.
Scepter/Torch Chronomancer High end condi damage and I am very annoying on this character and dishing out lots of condi damange at the same time.
Long Bow Vanilla Power Ranger Super high end burst damage and I can take someone in down state in very little time with auto attack skill averaging 2k to 4k per hit and rapid fire shot dealing as high as 12k to 18k each time. I mostly defend keeps and tower walls with this character,
There is 3 other characters I am getting up to par for WvW playing.
I do not play meta builds I customize meta builds to make them even better so they are no longer are meta builds.
Favourite: My broken build
Least favourite: Their broken build
I have a dream – Our Anet Senpai will make WvW Great Again!
WvW Forum is more competitive than WvW
My favourite builds used to be my cliffside necro and my warrior. Jumping off stuff at people is just inexplicably a lot of fun for me. Especially when you’re a necromancer with runes of snowfall and mischief sigils dressed as Santa Claus and internally shouting present-related battle cries. And replying to overly dangerous situations that I couldn’t cliff jump away from with “well tough because I’m a cloud”. And every time my warrior stomped it just felt like throwing a temper tantrum. When HoT arrived I stopped playing them as much and my WvWing was mostly taken up by my ranger as she sat at the entrance to the final story instance waiting on some friends to get around to arriving to join her. (Just because we’d tackled zhaitan together so it felt right to wait for them). Which was a different kind of fun because landing a well-placed “Guard” back then was just really satisfying when it worked (which was rare enough but that didn’t matter to me).
For noob player as me, only option is thief. All other professions are gankable. With thief, when I realize that I’m not winner, I just leave and vanish. So fun, no restart from spawn. And if my thief gets ganked, I don’t feel being a looser.
My current mesmer build that I run, been accused of being condi twice today as I insta kill a thief right in front of said person. I like maim the disillusioned as it adds straight up damage to the shatter instead of might to improve the next shatter, has helped finish off a person running away and adds a few hundred damage to my fights.
This is my current ele build which I use when small group of whatever roaming. I sometimes use marauder staff if fights scale up and I have a safe place to quickly switch some stuff but generally I run DD.
If I’m in a small team that’s organised on supporting each other and fighting outnumbered pretty much at all times I run this shameful build which helps with cleanses but mainly is for keeping people healed and supported through auras. I love giving squishy members 8s of shocking aura and 10s protection so instead of eating a 12k steal BS combo they take a 1.4k steal and take more health off the thief. It’s also pretty broken support for a cleansing ire berserker. Ranged pressure? No probs, swirling winds then overload earth to reflect back anything bad.
Favorite:
- My DD build that could push 4.1k power under perfect conditions
- My old Bunker Busting Butthead scrapper build (RIP) that could 3v1 most ppl easy, til anet pooped on it with 1 nerf….I WANT STUNS BACK ON GYROS….hehe
- Arcane FA ele (Ive been beat by this a lot but this build amazes me where its vanilla)
Not so much favorite (aka some of the ones I have little to no respect for):
- D/D perma evade condi teef
- Ghost thief (which was nerfed but still worth a mention)
- Full Trapper DH (I main thief so i have a natural hatred for this build lol)
- I am currently a main thief roamer for SF in WvW. LOVE ME!
- {SOAP} Solo/Havoc roamer, lover of good fights
