Let’s face the facts. As a guardian you can attempt to jump in large scale fights and swing a great sword around for a few seconds….or you can be an asset to your team. Unfortunately for us guardians the most effective way to be an asset is to simply use more protection based abilities as well as healing abilities. Ex: Wall of reflection, Line of warding, Empower etc…However the main issue is you get no tags for healing your teammates…your reflection will maybe get you a tag 1 out of every 15 large scale engagements. Your staff range is far too short to get you tags most of the time. If i heal another player i dont get a tag nor experience for any target he kills…when in reality he may have died if i didnt heal him. You designed us to be a protective / support role mainly in large scale combat (at least in wvw) however we have no reason to want to do this. On a personal level it purely hurts us. We miss out on loot experience and without any real rewards it can feel like were relatively useless. Hopefully anet will respond to this as im curious if they have recognized this at all…

This issue has been brought up several times before.

It’s not just a guardian issue, staff elementalist, elixir engineer, shout warrior, there are alot of other class combinations that fall under the role of support that do not get tags on players.

We have never received answer from the WvW team.

Just because your a guardian does not mean all you have to do is GUARD. Just go hybrid and be flexible. The only thing that is holding you back from getting badges is yourself.

I have no issues with that to be honest, I play mostly support guardian in our guild warband in WvW and have no issues with loot, heck I can’t count how often my bags are overflowing on a normal evening. I even play at the moment shield/mace/staff and have no decline in tokens. As long as my group stays up and kills stuff I get my share and I cannot complain.

Are you talking about running grouped or solo along ? If you talking about soloplay I would suggest you consider joining a party

Same here I play shout/heal guardian since release, i just spam my staff in between empower and have got thousands of spare badges in the bank after buying a full invader set.

I think its a bigger issue for non “Raid Guild” Guardians I supoose if your in an organised and solid team and supporting them they will be farming kills most of the time so you have a steady flow all the time even if it is half the amount other classes in the raid are getting.

You just have to tag players to get credit. Wall of Reflection and whipping out the staff will help you get bags, but it’s still crap compared to pure DPS.

There is an incentive, having fun and helping your team. I don’t care about bags.

If you have fun playing a support guardian then that should be all the incentive you need. If you also want rewards, split your time with an alt that’s more kill-focused.

Also.. if you party/squad up with players and they recognize your efforts, they should consider tipping. I’ve mailed a few silver to a support teammate before, I realized that they kept me alive and I’m happy to share the wealth

Healers/support and to a lesser extent tanks have never been properly rewarded for their work in large scale pvp. This is a contributing factor to the lack of support players. It may also be partly due to how difficult it is to balance rewards for support against rewards for killing. GW2 has the slight out that going full support is not recommended in this game because every build should be half damage and half support.

I continue to love support for the fact that a team with good supports is far more likely to win the overall battle. The area based support spells such as the consecrations and wards can be used to control the point of collision of the battles in your teams favor. Most players will back up if they realize that the people they are trying to attack they can’t, they will also panic if they realize that their escape has just been blocked even if they are capable of standing their ground.

At least we get credit for standing in the capture circles, which are the largest rewards in WvW anyway.

Support guardian here. Offering some suggestions, forgive me if they’re repeats, I didnt read anything in this thread.

February update stated they are looking to rework rewards in WvW. So there’s hope!
Use your staff to tag everything.
ALWAYS roll in a full party with people that are doing the same objectives are you are
Focus on fun, not loot
If you cant do any of this then the least you can do is roll a dps class until February.

My guardian and my Guildies never have problems with tags. Play a little frontline support and you’ll do great:)

I’ve never felt a lack of tags, but I don’t really pay attention to it. All I know is that when I play on my guardian as a support with mace/shield and staff, my guildies love me even more and I get to pole-dance.

Also the amount of kitten from when my mate plays the same build at the same time is just ridiculous. So is all that aoe stability and might.

I Play Exclusively Support With AH and Shouts with Some Reflection etc… I personally never have problems with loot, just lay down things right and use a scepter, you will get badges in no time!

This is probably why more and more people are going berserker build. That’s where the money is.

And sure, “it’s not all about the money” but if you want to REALLY support your team — with siege engines and fort upgrades — then money matters and you won’t be getting any as a support role. What makes thieves insanely popular isn’t so much the stealth abuse and culling issues, it’s that they get mad loot bags (and can usually live to loot them!)

1. Make sure you understand this.
2. The only time you will have an issue tagging with any build is if you are running solo in a zerg. Which begs the question, why are you playing a support build if you’re just running on your own? Your healing and damage mitigation just melts into the chaos of the fray, so your rewards are really in proportion to how visible they are. Being a team member doesn’t just mean playing a support role, it means being part of an organized force. When you are part of a guild, or at least in a party that is working together, your contributions will be much more visible and your rewards will increase in kind.

I don’t think this is something that needs to be addressed by Anet, it’s a good incentive for everyone to stop running around on their own.
