Hello! I am a Fort Aspenwood PvX player!

Note: I am also in the “DBL and ABL should be rotated in and out” camp. I’m a roamer type of player. I enjoyed how DBL had both shrines, lands and camps to capture relatively easily, and still feel like I’m ‘contributing’ to my world. It also gives more incentive to scout.

What would give even more incentive to scout? Resource nodes! I love resource nodes in Edge <3, so why not add them to the Borderlands? It would break up some of the tedium of running from A to B. Since the middle of DBL the ’Oasis" is basically a dead space iirc, and some of the navigation from point to point is rather obtuse, having vast stretches of land of just running.

I used to be a bigger fan of WvW and EoM, got excited when I got my comm tag a few months ago, did some casually commanding in EoM. Then started roaming around the Borderlands and getting into wvw proper.

But lately I’ve spent almost NO time in WvW because I finally understand how to play all my classes properly in PvE and it is way more consistent and arguably better in terms of rewards and what to expect.

Resource nodes across the map might get me back into the Borderlands I think. In EoM I have that Rich Copper Node under Wurm memorized, simply because I’ve been there so many times, and its FREE. And then when going from A to B, returning to zerg, or scouting, I’m always on the lookout for wood and ore (although I could do without the silver/gold ore =P).

Sure there are those tacky random synthesizers, but you have to own the objective to use it (with the exception of camps)… Also there is something great about having free mats lying around the map, waiting to be discovered and picked up which makes roaming more fun, and incentivizes me to stick around the map more. Like in EoM, if there was no comm atm, and I couldn’t commit to commanding, I could just roam/scout and pick up resources here and there.

I guess that’s partly why I now almost exclusively play Pve (I pvp too for the easy daily), especially the HoT maps. Everything is on a schedule, rewards are consistent, material locations are consistent! I have almost no reason anymore to stick around on EBG or BL.

“Oh I could take this camp/land… oh wait enemies wipe” “can’t take a tower with one person, i guess i’ll just go to the next camp… oh wait more enemies wipes

But at the same time, I’m skeptical of my own suggestion of adding resource nodes. This is because they did already increase the rewards for WvW, by adding the reward track, revising ppt, making the beta wxp increase permanent. So I really don’t know. Just thought I would throw this suggestion out there.

Until then, I shall roam Tangled Depths with my thief spamming Staff 2+1 and unlocking FREE chests!! (I just discovered the usefulness of Weakness… o3o pssst it’s basically perma-protection! 8D) whispers ressouurrrce nodes o.O Think about it!

They were put in the structures because the dbl was an unfinished mess when it was introduced. It went live without any resource nodes at all so they patched in the synthesized ones later on.

Why they decided to stick with that half kitten patchwork and convert the other maps to follow suit is beyond me.
At the very least they should move the nodes to the edge of the capture ring so you can gather while capping.

Just remove resources from structures, so we will have a better idea about www population as well. I see some players just gathering nodes from keeps with WP and leave.

+1 here, in an ideal world would have the nodes that we have now, and add back in the ones in the open fields. Those created little points of conflict that would pop from time to time and gave havocs and roamers even more targets. So +1 from me.

I like and miss them.

I don’t really want more pve in the wvw maps but it’s a nice distraction that makes the maps feel more alive.

But I’m someone that when I roam I get on a map and I like to stay on that map. If it’s really boring or too hot I like to do the pve events once in a while instead of continuously map hopping trying to find the next kill.

At the least, a set of nodes in the jp, skritt, centuar, warg and harpy areas.

Lol whatever buddy. Synth Nodes were introduced to the game with HoT, so it would be a pretty neat trick if EBG somehow got them before they were put into the game.

This has nothing to do with liking the map or not, HoT was a buggy mess when it came out. There were flickering walls that took no siege damage, there were walls players could shoot through, the game was crashing constantly, especially when the oasis event would go off, pets would constantly be burning in the fire keep without being in the lava, etc.
When they did introduce synth nodes they ended up removing them something like a day or 2 later because they respawned every 30ish seconds and there were crowds of PvE farmers sitting in keeps and towers.
The best part is when they fixed the timers there were people complaining on here that the nodes were “nerfed”, and that the short respawn timer was intended to benefit defenders.

From a roamers perspective it was great seeing a handful of people from a zerg stop at a node. It was a nice way to whittle away at the group.

I should have clarified my commanding a bit;
1) I do like a good k-train once in awhile (like a few hours before reset; or night before reset)
2) I rarely have more than 10-15 with me. (I herd kittens for a living)
3) I tend to be a PPT commander, mostly a defense commander
4) I am on the Crystal Desert Server so population tends to be low and so we get our home bl rick rolled quite often, this requires a k-train like take back of our own map.

But your comment makes me a little mad too, but only in the sense that you are amplifying my whole problem with the WvW community as a whole.

EVERYONE plays WvW how they like it. Some like roaming, and havoc. Some like GvG, Some like Ktrain, Some like defense and PPT, Some like massive zerg vs zerg. Some people love siege. Everyone should be allowed to play the game their way. No one way is better, no more valuable than the other. In fact, I’d argue that all of the play styles when balanced on in the servers can actually work together to make a great WvW.
As a defensive commander I need GvGers to keep hardcore peeps busy so my stuff doesn’t get taken and I can move about the map.
I need people who like siege to help place and refresh it for protection against an invasion.
I need havoc and roamers to keep my camps going and cause problems for the enemies.
I need k-train people and zerg fighting to get my points going up even if its only for and hour or so. These also keep people new to WvW busy doing something worth while and not screwing up something else I need. Not to mention it gives new comers a chance to see how exciting WvW can be and possible make them fall in love with WvW like I have, making them a valuable asset to me eventually.

You are quite correct and this is a well composed example of why WvW needs all sorts of roles supported even if WvWers will look down upon each other at times.

Its when one group tries and to define what WvW is that we end up out of balance and that creates new issues.

I understand your point about not losing people, but that was part of the fun too. Course I also enjoy the risk of being attacked and being able to attack people while gathering and moving from one target to the next. Nodes were also spots to stop and check the map at to give your group or warband a rally point when figuring out where you were off to next.

As far as people saying gathering being pve, you kind of need money and material to outfit toons and to create superior siege. Why not be able to do that while in WvW versus having to go to another game mode. We don’t have open world pvp in pve zones, but this is a bit closer to it.
