am starting a newb toon for WvW only
Doesn’t matter what gear you are wearing at level 2. You’ll be down so much , only the repair NPC will care.
You won’t be able to do much at that level. Be prepared for flak from your own server mates.
Stupid advice: Necro or longbow Warrior and for gawd’s sake, stand in the back out of red circles which will be everywhere.
Best advice: do yourself, your fellow server mates and the rest of the WvW players a favor and level up before going back out.

I would be careful about going out to WvW at such a low level.
If you’re in PvD situations where it’s just the zerg running around capturing objectives, yes, you can level reasonably efficient that way, though in many ways you’d be better off leveling outside.
I commend you for taking a brave stab at the game, and taking the Anet’s comments that you can (technically) level from scratch solely in WvW at face value. Yes, technically, you can.
What I will caution, however, is that the instant you get into real combat, you should expect to be one-shot.
You will not be able to survive siege fire.
One decent player, either at range or melee, can and probably will take you out with minimal effort.
One of the biggest things you need to understand is the role of rallying in WvW combat scenarios. In a zerg on zerg fight, you can have 10 people in downed states on both sides; as soon as one player fully dies, if they’re targeting wisely (and fighting, say, JQ or SoR/SoS back in the old days, I’ve actually seen this happen) one uplevel can actually turn a fight, because ten of those players can suddenly hop up and keep going.
I would agree, do understand that you’ll be taking flak from your realm mates. You will probably be called a “rally bot”, a derogatory term for a character that contributes little value at high risk of rallying enemy forces.
However, I commend you for taking a shot at it.
I would agree that you’d be best off playing a necro (largely staff from range) or a warrior (longbow from range). These classes have inherently higher survivability due to base hit points, plate for the warrior, and death shroud for the necro.

Go to EoTM, no one will notice as it’s full of upscaleds- just try not to die too much.
At least learn all your weapon skills before you go in.
Thanks guys.
I guess I should say “Oops” for a couple unclear impressions.
I have 10 level 80s, but have not ventured into WvW for more than a year. In fact, have only been back playing PvE for a couple months.
It used to be that leveling in WvW was a viable option, fast and profitable according to what I remember folks telling me way back when. I guess things change and mature. Since I am on TC I will choose one of my existing characters and prep.
I don’t like leeches either.
Thanks for the insights. cheers
Necro, you say, is now useful in WvW! Imagine that! LoL! Off to research that…
Roll a Warrior. They do everything good to great (roam, skirmish, zerg). Their only knock is they can be a bit boring to play after a while . However, I still love to play mine.
The upcoming warrior changes will have a minor nerfing effect but a possible significant upgrade to the greatsword.

For sure necro is great for WvW. I main a necro there and I have a blast. If you’re really going to level there, I’d say: 1) go to EB rather than the BL, as you’ll have an easier time finding a zerg and will be able to contribute less without doing too much damage; 2) do stay at the peripheral and try to WP fast if you think you’re going to become a rallybot, rather than let yourself become said rallybot; 3) see if you can find a few mates/guildies that are high level to run with you, as maybe they can provide you some protection.
I took both my kids into WvW while they were in the 30-ish level range, and they had a great time. However, I’m not on a high level, huge server. We went at a fairly slow time and did manage to take some towers and they helped when we got into a big zerg and tried to take an enemy keep. They were happy with how fast they leveled up there, too.
Good luck and have fun
2. While with the zerg, a guardian should go support or dps?
Support
3. 3. With Thief and Mesmer out of running, which will be the all-round fun class (zerg, GvG, solo roamer). Purely your opinion, right?
Warrior
You have 10 lvl 80’s.
So i take it you PvE.
And now want to get into WvWvW
An ele could fit any type of playstyle. Carry your different gear and now that you can re-trait on the fly there are no problems.
With that said, a warr and guard would be a very good choice.
Acutally infact, its not the game that decides how the player plays the class but
rather how the player decides to play the game. So anything is fine.
