They can’t. For multiple reasons. Most significantly siege griefers and map capping.

Hey it used to be random and unpredictable, sometimes as little as 10 minutes. An hour was a massive improvement.

Nope! While I agree that it’s frustrating that people to refresh it, if it didn’t despawn, all the siege thrown by “trolls” would become more of a issue then it already is.

You really want your keep siege capped with 50 rams built inside and no arrow carts, trebs, ballistas, or anything? All because 1 player didn’t like what your commander was doing?

If that is the reason then there needs to be a different solution. Nothing stops that one guy from refreshing those sieges.

As for the despawn. Well at least it gives the person on guard duty something to do. :p

Naw, if they removed the despawn timer it would be a disaster. Those of us who remember back to the fall of 2012 will shudder to think of this, lol.

That, and I believe Anet said there’s a reason why they have the siege despawner in the first place — something about code/lag/latency etc .. it was a while ago, I could have the details wrong, but I do remember them saying it affected gameplay.

As for the despawn. Well at least it gives the person on guard duty something to do. :p

There is something stopping that one guy from refreshing those sieges: SLEEP. He has to sleep at some point. If you have another solution then what is it?

Another issue used to be that you’d have a fully upgraded keep or tower or castle, with siege that was USED TO TAKE IT still sitting around. Or you’d be siege capped with basic siege, not superior, and there was nothing you could do about it.

We used to let people inside the outer portion of SMC or a keep just so that they would destroy the useless siege in the courtyards.

hmm. didnt think about that. sorry, i guess I haven’t joined your ranks as a pessimist. I didn’t think that people would actually do that. I just spent about 20 minutes earlier building up siege in the garrison and when I came back from dinner, they were all gone. I guess there really isn’t any way of being prepared in terms of siege other than upgrades to the general keep, and then siege building right before, or during defense. Or we have squads on defense. But wvw isn’t strategic play enough for that. More of a duck duck goose game than chess or risk.

Gone after 20 mins = killed by an enemy.

Respawn time is 1 hour. The is for building up d though. I wish more people would.

gone for 2 hours. and the keep hadn’t been flipped. I checked around. So yeah, the ones I placed despawned.

Yeah, siege has to be refreshed once an hour. Usually you can ask someone to refresh while you are gone, especially if you give them a time that you will be back.

The only problem these days is when people place regular siege instead of superior. So I guess remove regular siege and be done with it?
