I think it is fine. Not a big deal if you understand how it works. Worst case scenario you swap in one counter ability (instead of going full glass cannon…) and you are fine. You can tell when they are active on the map and it’s easy to see whether or not the enemy has one or not.

The banner is just more gimmicks that are not needed in WvW. They need to encourage open field fights and tower attack and tower defense. The key is players. Not siege, not banners, but actual players. ANET has lost focus on that at some point.
Oh ya its awesome. Now wvw is about getting past the endless banners and cc to keep the enemy from pulling a lever while you try to down the lord inside a three way map blob. If they get that airstrike off, its a wipe. All they need is one guy on that lever.

Yeah it’s a real shame. Even the classes and builds are becoming gimmicks with the new HoT stuff. It’s pay to win except everyone loses.
Bait the banner 5 skill and spread out more. Or bring the turtle banner for protection spam and Saved by the Shell.
It’s pretty broken, but not unstoppable. Arenanet should have thought about the ramifications of making the skill 2000 range on Dragon Banner & 20 targets.
All the new HOT stuff is pretty broken: airship defense, banners, Invulnerable Dolyaks, Invulnerable Fortifications., Cloaking Waters, Chilling Fog, etc.

Had 5 banners on enemy Zerg the other day trying to take their SM – with them having airship I win button. Needless to say it was not fun.

Overall it is ruining fights and not really encouraging for open field combat. Apparently there’s already a meta for “autowin” using dragon banners with mesmers. Game over
Its easy to avoid it if your not a mindless zegling.

It’s really dumb when you have a cooldown-reset chronomancer with it, since those effects reduce the cooldowns of the banner skills.
It’s already dumb. Unbelievably stupid when a Chrono has one.

If they plan on keeping these, it should be extremely obvious when a person is carrying one. Right now they look like a regular banner. If they were say twice as tall, groups could more easily target these players.

At the very least, you shouldn’t be able to use profession skills (see warrior banners). If you really want to emphasize risk-reward, take it a step further and prevent heal/utility/elite skill usage.

That’s kinda what we did, we were outnumbered but after a ton of engagements, due to our determined driver, we started trying to snipe the banner carriers. Took awhile to find them in the mass of red but wasn’t obvious like you said. Overall, it seems most big groups are carrying these and just spamming them instead of engaging in a skilled fight. Banner wars lol

if the holder of the banner is not just a mindless zergling too tho, they will play it when you have committed to a bridge/choke in which rolling out is either not possible or leads to other negative effects

This is a good idea to standardize banners.
Perhaps if you carry a banner then all your F1-F5 skills and traits have no effect, set to 2600 power (unaffected by might), 2600 armor, and your vitality is set to 20K ; banner holder gets a star over their head like a quest NPC.
