today i was fighting an engineer with strong defend build
Elixir B 10 second retaliation , that is alot ,
other class only get 2 or 3 second
then he got his shield , and Gyro
10 SECOND not able to hit someone
on top of F4 , Toss Elixir B , might get you another 10 second of retaliation
everything you get get reflected back to the source
3 of my combo attack ended up killing myself lol
on top on him attacking as well

Its near impossible to die by retaliation anymore unless you’re a ranger barraging a zerg with it really. even with high power builds retaliation does maybe 250 dmg per hit to yourself.

I’m assuming you’re playing ranged so you’re probably using your attacks when he pops the bubble or uses shield 4 to reflect the actual attack back at you. In regards to the Gyro (which I’m assuming is Bulwark) you can still damage the Engi it only takes 50% of the damage away and it dies quickly because you can hit the Engineer and the Gyro and it will take damage from the Engi and itself.

There are other classes with lots of retaliation, Guardians can get 100% uptime retaliation if they want to.

So really the only thing that might be killing you is you’re spamming combos (like Rapid Fire) when the Engi puts up his reflects. Just learn to cancel the skill by facing away or hitting the stow weapon button. Switch to a melee set when he has a reflect up if you have to.

Retaliation alone should never kill you and if it does you’re doing something very wrong.

Retal doesn’t make them immune to damage, if you are doing more damage to yourself than you are to them while they have retal up then there is something seriously wrong with your build.
If they are reflecting your projectiles, stop firing….
What turrets could you possibly be having a problem with? If he is using sneak gyro he isn’t dropping a supply crate, which means the only turret that should be coming out is his heal. I mean…. that is unless someone was actually trying to run a turret engi in WvW, if that’s the case all you had to do was move 5 feet away from his turrets and /shrug at him.

What exactly are you running? Why don’t you post your build and we can offer you some advice on what you might want to change to have an easier time fighting.

Since this is apparently the only engie you have ever fought (why else post a special thread about it, people fight tons of condi and power engies every day), I recommend simply fighting them some more. Eventually you’ll learn.

A Scrapper is not an Engineer. Many moons ago the Engineer was a very enjoyable profession. The Scrapper on the other hand is an abomination. It doesn’t even get close to how fun Engineers used to be.

Sounds like someone needs to learn how to stow weapon their range attacks.

And retal does at most 300 damage more or less. So unless you’re a ft engi who doesn’t stop auto attacking it’s not a big factor.

One of my main form-up builds uses Scrapper and is highly effective.

That’s with kit-swapping and all the fun keyboard dancing you’re used too.

PS: why does everyone destroys WvW even in forums
first there were server recruitment threads and some classes thread now too
sigh…

someone has some LTP issues. don’t hate on other classes just because they are better than you, just play the broken version of your class before they hopefully nerf it on the 19th

Scrappers are not too bad. I fought one today for like 5 minutes with my old school engi condi build and beat him eventually. But he did seem to never take any damage and clear my condis like crazy. But then again, I use elixirs pretty heavy myself.

He proceeded to alt 4 me after he was downed, must have been mad but then again he was a TC player lol

The old school Engi prevails!
