is it always a zerg?
Try to find some friends, or even just a few randoms. Form a party and try to get supply camps far behind enemy lines (and then GTFO, unless you can setup siege to defend the camp :P). It really throws a lot of enemies, and it’s much more effective at redirecting enemy troops to where they aren’t needed.

yes it is, isnt 1v1 battles, thats why is world vs world not individual vs individual

totally understand.. just thought it would have been better then what i got to see. i had my fill of pvp for this game in one evening. not gonna bash it. just not for me. fun pve game tho for no sub.
From what I saw there are two types of zergs.
First zerg is your typical PUG zerg. They would run in a group and steamroll anything they see and be attracted to keeps (specifically Stonemist).
Second zerg is a more organized zerg and these are the ones ussualy run by guilds. They take keeps, supply camps, barricade important locations with defenses (100 arrows carts), and act as a response group.
So yes they entire game is zerging as do most keep invasions games.

Different objective are made for different teamsizes. I read once that they had in mind, that a camp is for a group, doylaks for a 2-3 players, a tower for 2 teams, fortresses for guilds, and stonemist for a worldwide attack. Then after one of the BWEs they added the sentries for solo players.
At the moment there are some zergs with 30-50 people running over everything, getting the same amount of XP/Karma/Gold as a small group.
A small group can run camps as intended, two can also attack a tower, but if the zerg arrives, they will just mow down any offensive they see and keep on circle attacking.
They could break that up, if objective would have a reward pool.
10 players attacking a tower. Here get 20k xp, (on 80), 550 karma and 3s50c for that.
50 players attacking the same tower?. Here you get 4k xp, 110 karma and 70c.
Everyone who contributed at least for bronze rewards drains from the pool.
You can still zerg, but your individual reward will go down alot. I predict people will split up to approaciate sizes for a particular objectives, in order to maximize their personal reward.
Second thing to do:
Increase the rewards for killing actual players. Currently I gain the same amount or even more badges by killing guards instead of players.
what i mean if you go to wvw for try to do 1v1s is not a go, pretty simple.
they should add 1v1 option in spvp or even 1v1 tourneys

There is alot inbetween zerg and one player. Like teams and stuff. Currently there is just “The Zerg”.
Sadly it is.
It would be nice if there was more of an option to run around with a small group, or a duo even. Cutting in between the zerg fights and the entry point of the opposing zerg side. Letting you stem the flow of reinforcements or just picking off stragglers for fun.
But since every tiny battle shows up on the bloody map, this is almost always impossible.
Have you tried sPvP? WvW is just that world vs world vs world, if you’re more interested in player vs player there is structured PvP. Alternatively you could do what many of us do and form a small group of skilled players and move around the zergs taking smaller objectives and finding other like-minded enemies and have some really good 5v5 or even 5v10. I love this style as the zerg serves as a great diversion while we act as shock troops with flanking and commando tactics.
It is not just zerging. Strategy, team work and coordination will stomp the zergs every time. Just tonight my guildies were defending the garrison being attacked from both sides by both servers and through coordination with a flank team and proper siege usage we pushed them out every time they came in.
[DA] Decisive Actions – Jade Quarry
Plenty of small scale action around caravans and supply camps. Attacks against towers and keeps will quite naturally involve large forces, but that’s by design. It’s not always true either – I’ve captured towers with just five people. A lone defender can also hold off such attacks if the tower/keep has supplies.
There’s no shortage of things to do on your own, really.
I think the Zerg will fissile out as time progresses and people start to understand how it works. People need to get out of the kill, kill, kill mindset and I think that will happen soon
You dont have to go in the zerg. Theres plenty of other objectives to take.
But you will NEED zergs to take castles/keeps. Do you really expect 10 people to take down a door with repairers?
The problem is there is no incentive to play as a party.
Frontiers should have been 3x larger and swiftness bonuses only apply to your group=roaming groups.
Yes there is. Supply lines are critical to defending a keep. Without siege to defend, and supply to repair with — the keep falls.
Thats one example.
There are MANY more.
You just need to WANT to play with your friends, and do things that help. Taking out power nodes in the water. Putting up swords on the map to shift enemy movements/attention. It all matters in the end.
Why would i care about supplys, defending/losing a keep or loosing the battle? You don’t win/lose anything at all. Only fun thing is killing people and currently zerg is the most efficent way to do it.
…. Youre obviously not on a top-tier server.
The fun part is having all t he working parts of a machine working flawlessly. Youll get kills, far more rewarding ones, when in a raiding party. 5v5, 10v10, 2v2…etc. Theyre far, far better than sitting in a zerg spamming fire from the skies screaming YESSSSSSSS I AIDED IN A KILL BROS GG 150 EXP F*** YEA!!!#!#!#
ALL MEEE!!!
Thats not fun for most people. If you think that is, cool, youll sit at the keeps shooting doors, pretending youre good at the game, and really doing nothing but Army vs Door then bullrush the lord and GG it with aoe.
The real skill/fights are off at the supply routes, etc.
Also, you realize, if you lose… You dont get orbs, right? Nor honor/glory.
Nope you are horribly wrong, thats why people zerg like no tomorrow.
And you know, its ungodly stupid to tell people play a certain way instead of giving incentive to play that way. People will zerg, because its easiest way to kill people and telling them NO THIS IS NOT FUN is not gonna change anything.
I AM?
Theres lots of skill in zerging, right?
You feel so accomplished after beating on a door then zerging a keeplord.
Or, the real players, are the ones in raiding parties — and youre just ignorant because youre stuck in zerg mode because you cant hack it in small groups and need the giant ball to mask your lack of pvp skill.
Its cool, though. We need the zerg as much as they need the raiders.
skill? i havent seen any skill yet. on the forums i read people want even grounds so there skill will show who wins and who loses. . where is the skill in a zerg? even the smaller pvp events are all big group based stick together and hit whatever is close. if sticking together and rolling people is what people call skill then this is a perfect game for em.
if your world always loss with 1k pts while the winner has 500k ohkittenthey totally were more skilled than you
Its just like DAoC. You have the zerg and then you also have squads. The zerg thrashes about and gets lot of attention. The squads work around the edges of the zergs or even avoid them completely, capping, ambushing, harassing, etc, etc…
A small tight team can do a tremendous amount of damage, even to a zerg directly, and we’ll see more and more squad action as the WvW community matures.
who had nearly stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol
and who had personally wet himself at the Battle of Badon Hill!
If you stay near the forst, mainly the bigger ones, you will probably find more zergs and people that hit you and run into guards… thank god there are no skills that can burst you with one shot… as in the old game I played…
I could find some interesting 1v1 in WvW, not so comom to happen but not that rare too, when I am solo I try to run far away from the main objectives and always find someone doing the same.

Bgs are just too small for things to work like daoc.
Daoc has massive frontiers and speed only applied your own group (unless you got some artifact but it wasn’t so common i guess) It heavily encouraged teamplay (yet it was also zergy).
Yeah it is. Thats the only time to have fun. Other times is just empty.
I’ve had a lot of fun running around with 3-5 people. We just kept running around killing dolyaks, takings supply camps and sentries all over the map. You just have to understand your limitations. IF you fight 10 guys you are gonna lose, if you stop to defend you are gonna lose. If you can move fast enough you can call the zerg down on you and stay ahead of them. That frees up your own zerg to capture more objectives in the vacuum.
“Let our swords stay sharp until the Jolly Roger flies over all our enemies keeps!”
I’ve already seen lots of fights of 10 against 30+ ending with the smaller group victory. You just need a leader that really knows the strategies and how mass pvp works
group of 20 guildies well organized will beat the zerg anyday people are so bad at this game its amazing.
group of 20 guildies well organized will beat the zerg anyday people are so bad at this game its amazing.
This is true
No one zerg can take down a organized of 50 ppl defending a well fortified keep/tower
The only way is by using tons of siege, manly trebuchets
There is far more than just zerg to this game. If you want some very small scale pvp, either go out by yourself and raid the flags/dolyaks, or grab a couple friends and hit flags, dolyaks, and camps. This should get the enemy attention, and even though a zerg may come for you from time to time, often it’ll just be a couple guys running along the map who see the battle icon.
If you want a taste of siege warfare but still without the zerg, get a slightly larger group (5-10 is small enough to go unnoticed, but can carry enough supply for some equipment), build some siege weapons near a tower, and try and take it. This is usually only a good idea on maps where you’re the attacker, because attackers tend to only hold front line towers, and towers on the way out of their spawn.
Hope this helps you find some enjoyment in WvW
Oh, and if you’re annoyed by the rez distance, just make sure your party splits up when they zerg you, so someone survives and can come back to rez.
