is speed balanced?
Wat? Rune of Speed just gives a 25% to movement speed. In combat, that’s the maximum you can get, Swiftness included. But anything with leaps (warrior sword 2 skill, for example), will have you run faster. I’m not really sure of what you’re problem is.
well maybe its rune of the traveler or something but even if i use ride the lightning on an ele there are some people i can just never catch and they can enter/ leave combat against me at will, and nothing i can do will let me catch up to the front of a zerg cuz thats where all the people using those runes end up. i feel like i HAVE to use those movement augmenting runes in order to be competative
Movement speed is hard capped at 33%. Speed boosting effects do not stack. Swiftness and a movement speed signet will not make you move at 58% speed. Even skills that increase speed by 50% and 100% like Super Speed don’t make you move faster than 33%, they just make it so you’ll move normally even if you have Cripple or Chill on you.
Additionally, you’re an Ele. So you’re the class with the 3rd highest mobility in the game via FGS, RTL and Lightning Flash.
Hi, first, front of the zerg is where all the buffs happen, ie stacking swiftness which is faster than speed runes out of combat. Make sure you stay at front, not tail of the zerg. From your post I assume you are D/D ele? Then use your gap closers if you need to catch up with those at front, dagger air 5 gives you swiftness and you can use your weapon blast skills on static field to stack more swiftness.
Slot lighting flash and fgs. Optionally you can just swap one of your utilities for speed signet, but it’s redundant if your group/zerg has a good swiftness uptime.
As an ele you won’t benefit from getting speed runes.
honeycakes, in wvw, if you stand out in front, you get focused in .5 seconds.

Rune of the traveler is 25% movement speed.
Do you seriously think RTL is the only movement skill? other professions have equal or better movement skill accessibility. I find it interesting that you would make a thread questioning speed balance, simply because some players out ran you. Should e call into question, every aspect of the game, in which you out do another builds?

… really unsure what else to say.

Maybe your server is special, but on every other I’ve been, zerg stacks swiftness when not engaged in combat, usually when waiting for the tail to catch up at nearest sentry. Well, what do I know, maybe a sentry focusing you is a problem for you.
By the way Rune of the Traveler is only used by builds with terrible mobility options, since you basically waste your rune slot to take it. I doubt you really have trouble to catch up with a mesmer or a meditation guardian. The biggest offender of the cowardly retreat tactic are thieves (but you can push them out of their SR at least) and of course GS warriors, or worse, sword-x/GS warriors.
im so sick of people with move speed runes being able to just pop in and out of combat at their leisure, there’s no way to counter it cuz u cant chase them and in zergs they are always out in front meaning theyl get all the kills and more loot even for having inferior stats.
its the old magic find rune debate again, why should the person who has the lower stats be rewarded so much?
While you seem to have the superior stats to all those fast builds, your stats are completely useless as you explained that you arrive when those fast players already killed everything.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!
Mediguards are just as agile if not more so than a thief……
If you can’t faceroll your way out of the zergs path then you’re doin it wrong.
….. And Elementalist.

Staying alive =/= cowardice.
