move crafting to Obs. Sanctum
Not a bad idea, Would be fun to have crafting in OS – as long as you can’t be targeted while you’re in a crafting menu. No sense getting ganked while your screen is full of menus
I agree, there should be no crafting stations in WvW. Its bad enough that people AFK in citadel, its even worse when they are crafting instead of being constructive to their team.
Been thinking about this one for a while, and I’m uncertain. One one hand this is probably one of the best ways we get new players into WvW, after Mega Server. On the other hand, as you say, 20 people sit doing nothing.
Not that it is much of a problem for us on low tiers, it isn’t like we ever que a map anyways.
This could be solved with the idea to turn Lion Arc into a server specific map, so we got a place to gather up recruits and rally people to server, and craft and idle etc. But it would kitten of the PvE players.

I agree 100%, it would really get rid of the constant friction between wvw players and people who go to a bl to craft and add to a queue when your server needs ppl the most.
Heres my idea, remove crafting and other relevant npcs and move them to OS, but add a banker/guild banker npc to citadel. Here’s why, if there is no upgraded keep, crafting tables offer an easy way to access bank for siege, boosters, etc so adding these 2 npc’s would make it easier.
OS should be split into 2 areas. One with the new crafting stations and other vendor services already at citadel, and then a quick portal (noloadscreen) into the OS JP.
Doing this would also help people get around queues as they will not add, or not have to wait in them when they just need to use vendors/craft.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

It wouldn’t make me mad and I’m a PvE player. RPers would likely enjoy it as well since they could guest to a quieter server for role-playing.
Move it to OS? No thank you. That area is intended to be a free for all. No PvE should exist there.
As to the actual crafting stations, I agree that people shouldn’t be crafting in WvW. That said, some of those people may just be getting an item from their bank vs actual crafting.
I wouldn’t mind the crafting stations being moved to Obsidian Sanctum (or better yet, to Heart of the Mists), although I do think they should be kept in the Borderlands as well just to “fill out” the Citadel so it doesn’t appear empty. Think about it, wouldn’t a Citadel be able to produce the food, weapons and armor its troops need?
If the crafting stations were also available elsewhere, I can assure you players will start going there in preference because there’s no risk of getting stuck in a queue trying to get in to do crafting either.
Please move the crafting stations off the borderlands maps. Move them to Obs Sanctum or remove them entirely, or have the stations become disabled when the map ques. It is ridiculous that qued maps can have 20 or more players crafting, taking up spots for people wanting to actually fight.
Good idea.

I never saw a player that goes to wvw just to craft. If it happens is with a very limited number that probably doesn’t have great impact in the queue. I think the map should stay the way it is.
Oppose any change the requires me to move to Lag Arch to use my bank. And maybe get queued too.

Park alt(s) at JPs
enter wvw to craft or bank
Return to pve land where you were at end of JP
That said, I don’t do it when there is a que. I am not there long enough to hamper the war effort should a que pop. I am also aware of map calls that could que the map – golems at Garry, hills, bay etc…..
You can now go to Heart of the Mists for your banking/merching needs. However, your Citadel is still the only place to go for crafting that puts you back where you were before. Hence me saying that having crafting stations be added to HotM as well being the ideal solution.
Except that /m chat in Heart of the Mists is a swamp of gold-sellers and bigots.
I can’t speak for the higher tier servers, but on my server, having all the “town” services in home BL citadel has been a great thing for WvW. I run into players all the time who only came there, the first couple of times, to craft or to use the merchants or whatever and who got sucked into helping out at some objective via /t or /m and only then discovered that they liked it. Lots of PvE’ers start out with a mindset of “I hated PvP in other games, this one won’t be different” and teasing them into trying it sometimes turns out to be all that it takes.
We’ve had a few reset nights where we were queued on home BL. In my experience, a simple /m announcement that we need people who aren’t fighting to move out was usually enough to thin the non-fighters substantially.
Hmm, maybe I’ve been lucky, but gold sellers in Map chat in HotM have been few and far between. (They mostly spam whispers instead.) The general Map chat is… quite varied, but I’m pretty hard to offend and I actually find most of it amusing when I actually pay attention. (Most of the time I’m too busy looking at my Bank or the TP to bother reading what’s actually going on in Map.)
Here’s an idea -> put them in the Garri.
Then at least people might help defend if it is being attacked.
Space Marine Z [GLTY]
Terrible idea; in Tier 2 OS is often full from Guilds doing GvGs and spectators. Add crafting there and you kill the GvG scene.
Next you will be suggesting that we remove the Mystic Forges as people can stand there for ages doing siege upgrades.
There are valid reasons why people don’t want to leave WvW to craft.
For example, If I have to leave the map to craft then I cannot respond to defence calls that appear in map chat.
If Anet are going to spend development time on WvW then there are 101 things more important than the odd PvEr using WvW crafting stations – which is only an issue when there are queues and how many PvErs are going to sit in a queue twiddling their thumbs waiting to get into WvW to use crafting stations when there are crafting stations in every city, every 1-15 map and also in Ebonhawke , Skrittsburgh and the Hylek place in Sparkfly Fen?
One thought I’ve had was to make a own "WvW Idle/service" map, something similar to the Heart of the Mists map for PvP. And move all services there, still be a part of WvW maps, where you could idle and not get kicked out after 15 minutes. Also let it be a map that unlike the other WvW maps doesn’t force you to leave, so if you only do WvW you can stay there as a server specific WvW map (even under reset, since it’s not part of other servers in match-up).
I don’t know how useful that would be, on one hand you get distanced from the borderland in case anyone asks for help. On the other hand I know of plenty of people that uses WvW as a quick way to access services or just as a free way to teleport back to LA without using silvers on WP’s.
It wouldn’t quite take the old role of LA, where people could go to rally people to help in WvW, but it would also give us a specific place to find server mates that might be interested in WvW again. Who knows. I sure know ANet does not want to invest in another map, unless they recycle something.
