necro roamers
where are they……………..?
here is one^^

I’m a necro and I never find enemy necros when I roam. Most of the time I find thieves that run/cloak away when they are about to lose and I can’t do anything about it due to poor mobility of the class.

I actually got some amazing hits with AoE skills and bleeded thieves out while they were in stealth. They just repopped some seconds later laying in the dirt and asking for a stomp^^ However, that were only lucky hits, most of the times it doesn’t work…

I’m a necro roamer on CD. The reason you don’t see any is because they are one of the most, if not the most, difficult class to roam with. No invulnerability, no invisibility, no evade skills, no mobility skills on any of their weapons, and extremely limited access to boons, especially stability. Oh, and also their downed health is bugged so that it’s only 33% of what it should be. I enjoy the challenge though, I started off playing a guardian but found the class to be very forgiving of mistakes which I thought was pretty cheesy, so I switched to necro :p.
I used to roll a roamer necro. I switch my thief and ranger classes to builds for solo roamer and now use my necro as a midline zerg class. It just makes more sense to me to have it this way. The necro is pretty decent, but it doesn’t have the escape abilities of other classes and is weak against CC. They can do exceptionally well in small scale fights and 1v1s when built right, but I wanted my 8 chars split up into specific roles and felt my Necro was the best midline and I went that way.

The trick to dealing with running thieves is to have relatively long duration fears and get really good at timing them. Most thieves will have the stealth heal skill and shadow refuge, so the second they do the heal skill animation (looks like a fist pump type thing on human males, which most seem to be) you switch to death shroud and use #3 instantly. When that fails and they try to use shadow refuge, you switch to staff and use #5 instantly and they will get feared out of the refuge before they can stack any stealth. As for preventing cloak and dagger it comes down to kiting them with cripple/chill, and using blind skills on them. Also you need to be using the locust signet to make sure you have the same movement speed of the thief since they all run signet of shadows. So by denying stealth and keeping movement speed CC on them, the thief should go down before they can escape.
I roam occasionally, more seeking out lone camps and such than for solely fighting players, but that comes with it. It’s a tough life, with massive odds stacked against a Necro roamer. The great thing though is that probably 50-75% of roamers are pretty bad, relying on class mechanics of the top 2 or 3 roaming classes to win fights for them, and when they run into someone that doesn’t go down in a few seconds, they often over engage and can’t get out before being killed.
The better ones run away if they start to lose, and the best ones will beat you simply based on superior class mechanics and ability to reset fights endlessly. GW2 will never have a healthy roaming scene unless Anet cleans up class balance.
You can say one thing though, it’s a real challenge. Pretty much for any player not playing Mesmer, Thief, or still Ele is pretty good. Anyone playing those 3 who boast of roaming in WvW are on easy-mode and its pretty amusing they think they are accomplishing something hard.
I roam on my necro for most of my time playing, but I can tell you that that class is not very forgiving. In many cases that you are outmanned, you find yourself either having to find some amazingly godlike way of killing every single one of them, or dying because you lack many boons, leaps, ground target teleports with easy cast (Flesh wurm is one, but requires a cast time of atleast 1s) , invulnerability, invisibility, Endurance recovery, dodge skills, blocks and CC immunity. Most of the time I hesitate when initiating fights and get a good scope of the area before I engage. I usually can kill quick and DS stomp + stability, but I have to avoid most mesmers as many play PvT bunker types and its tough since I mostly run Power necro. I can’t say I have too many problems with thieves, but if I have to fight them and another class, its usually an uphill battle.
My mesmer on the other hand was easy to roam with pretty much the day I hit 80. Many of the CC chains that would kill me on a necro I can just blink or phase retreat out of. Anytime I need to dodge certain moves while running away, vigor from a crit via phantasm gives me enough to do so and then phase retreat. If I need to stomp someone and I dont have stability, I can just mass invis or distortion and do so. Same for running away with my small havok group or alone. Hell, sometimes I don’t even need to dodge anything, I just blurred frenzy since its on a relatively low cooldown (10s). Its easier, and can be very boring sometimes if you dont fight multiples.

You forgot BM Ranger.
i roam around solo sometimes as well waiting for a few of the guild to get one, usually thieves and eles will be a fun fight.. if they are really good you go down though. Mesmers on the otherhand are rather hard to win against.
Have an 80 mesmer as well and at times it feels like it is way too easy to win a fight. lots of short cooldowns and evasion plus good damage. Although I find coordinated groups with the necro more fun then mesmer, mesmer is too gimmicky in a group.

I know they are beastly, but actually don’t see many in WvW. Think most are in sPVP? I did run into a great one once and it was very unpleasant, before the empathetic bond nerf which was even more nightmare vs condi.

I’ve run into a few and they are nearly impossible for me to kill, I would say a more difficult match-up than even a mesmer. I run a pretty boon-strip heavy build too, but because their boons, especially regeneration, are applied frequently in short durations rather than infrequently in long duration like the guardian, it is pretty much impossible to keep them stripped for more than a second or 2. The WvW scene seems to be pretty slow when it comes to recognizing good PvP builds, so I think they will probably become more and more common in the future as people realize how good they actually are.
I roam with my necro and main. They do tend to be less successful at it, but they are so much more gratifying to use effectively than the most played classes. When I get killed by those classes I just use it as a learning experience and try harder the next time.
After making all 8 classes (many I leveled in wvw), I went back to my necro which was the first class I used. I thought I wouldn’t have as much fun, but I was wrong. I guess it depends on what class feels right.
As to where they are, I guess people do want the easy kills and/or survivability. Necros tend to be harder to master than many of the other classes, but once you do they can be a lot of fun.
Someone called?

Ran into a couple and I’ve seen some kite a group of 4 and keeping their health up. Great balance in this game.
I roamed for a long period of time on my necro, either solo or in very small groups. I’ve had some great moments and epic fights, but I would always get frustrated not having some of the tools other classes had. A few days before they talked about buffing Necros, I finished leveling my thief to 80, and it’s just a whole different experience entirely.
Necros are good in zergs, but they are near the bottom of the barrel if not the worst class at roaming. Not that they can’t do it, but it’s far easier with other classes. I hope that they pull through and buff necros, and then I’ll gladly go back to mine.
