we will have more stability and support and on top of that we will have less problems with retaliation. I would really appreciate some pro opinions =)

Edit: This question was mostly about zerg-gameplay and havocing but feel free to comment on any aspect of the game you want

I assume you mean ‘is engineer becoming a thing in the zerg?’ – engies are already a thing in roaming.

Possibly, but not in any of the existing roles.

Engies will not become frontliners – 1 stack of stability every 3 seconds will melt painfully on the first push. You’ll be running into multiple CC fields and separated from the train pretty fast.

As for backliners, engies with mortar kit are theoretically very powerful all of a sudden – they can now drop and blast water and pulsing ice fields with long duration and short cooldown, from long range. That’s huge. They’ll also now not get killed as hard by retaliation – the mortar kit hits a lot less frequently than nades.

There is, however, solid counterplay. Mortar engies differ from the current necro and ele backline in one important detail – they have to use a projectile to deploy their fields. This can be blocked or reflected – it won’t take long before guards in zergs run with WoR, and revenants (which presumably will be able to frontline) will use their mobile projectile-destroying-wall-thing.

So the game with engies will be sneak around to the side and either find an angle that allows them to get past the walls to deploy fields on the pin, or attack the opposing side’s backliners.

Similarly, commanders will be looking to bait out walls and regroup in positions where the opposing side can’t deploy reflects.

those are some valid points but our strongest nuke will be a blast finisher which can’t be reflected which on top of that will be able to nuke siege similar to meteor storm

Ok…

So roaming:
Condi Engineer becoming stronger, and so is Static Discharge. Static Discharge will I suspect become the most prolific engineer build for roamers – definitely more fun and interesting but still kinda annoying. Oh yeah, and that new Grandmaster in Tools (toolbelt skill refreshed on Evade) plus the analyze on stealth thing… Lock Down, will make Engineer quite insane in 1v1s.

Focus Party type content:
Strong class, but I still doubt it. Sure, the new Grand Master in Tools with the evade thing could be insanely strong, but you’re competing with the likes of Thief and Ranger – Ranger with quickdraw will now be so kitten strong there’s almost no replacing it really.

Front Line:
Possible. If Hammer is strong, Engineer could take the role of stab-stripping with slick shoes, and spam healing with heal on blasts and blasts on roll etc., however this isn’t going to be that likely if you ask me… unless ANet change Healing Power a lot, the heals on blasts wont be comparable to a bunch of Revenant Staff 4s, Guardian Staff 4s, Ele healing etc…

PvE:
Depends on how drastic the trait changes are on Engineer’s DPS. However… bare in mind that with Guardians now getting huge amounts of vuln, as well as Eles remaining in meta it seems, it’s doubtful they will become top tier Meta… could do however.

Play Engi if you enjoy the class… just a game at the end of the day.

For roaming keep in mind that Speedy Kits is going the way of the dodo. Considerably less mobility is at the Engineers disposal.

As for the Mortar kit, eh Engineers already have a long-range aoe in the form of the Grenade kit. Don’t see to many of those so i honestly don’t think the Mortar kit will bring much change to that. Freeze is already something the Grenadekit can do pretty well. Don’t forget the Poison field thats going away as well.
Not getting gibbed as hard by Retaliation might actually be the biggest benefit. Nothing sucks more than seeing your health bar melt for no apparent reason and being forced to just idle.

Conditions may be getting buffed but it seems condition removal in general is also more prevalent.

Eng bombs will be a thing with overcharging your F5 with morders. Over all i think overcharging maybe a big thing for the eng class in all formant.

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)

With the death of speedy kits, are people going to inventions to grab 25% speed? Or am I terrible for thinking about inventions?

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Inventions traits are all about healing and turrets. If you aren’t build for either you get very little out of going into this traitline besides the 25% movement speed.

For me giving up 1/3th of my trait options just to get a 25% movement speed is not worth it.

i think engi’s will take med kit (perma swiftness) and go for a backline build. I personally used medkit before (quite successfully i might add) and with less retaliation, a buffed med kit and a water field on mortar we will be fine

A power-s/d build could easily take explosives, tools and inventions.
the traits in inventions then would be automated bomb-dispenser (a strong defensive trait that formerly was out-performed only by grenadier, which is now baseline. Also, the smoke bomb it delivers means additional stealth-blasts), ofc mecha-legs for the mobility and bunker down, which works exactly like the current bunker down, so punishes melee-classes, but also drops bandages now (1.2k base-healing, with a decent scaling to healing-power).

You see, inventions is pretty strong when it comes to pure healing, and the minors help with condi-cleansing, but don’t underestimate the utility and dmg that comes along with it. At least for me it will have a solid spot in my builds.

Engineer is love, Engineer is life.

It depends what the exact numbers are on that 4xSkyhammer drop they can throw out. I could see them taking the spot of a necro as zerg backliners if it’s as big as the animation seems to imply

Stormbluff Isle – Syliara
Elementalist – Necromancer – Warrior
