I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts were on builds in WvW. My opinon is that our sPvP builds should be applied in WvW instead of our PvE ones. I mean, at the end of the day WvW is more PvP than PvE right? Kinda sucks that I want to run dungeons as a support but I want to own face in WvW but I have to respec every time to do it, when I can enter sPvP and build however I want regardless.

Just wondering what opinons people have on this, is it really another necessary gold sink or just a royal pain in the …. ?

If you read the forums WvW is more PvE than PvP so it should share the same build as your PvE build.

PVE builds are fine, with a few tweaks. More AoE if you can, more projectile reflection and similar stuff than you would usually bring to a dungeon. You don’t really have to move traits around much if you don’t want to, but change up your utilities/majors as needed, a lot of people forget you can change those on the fly out of combat. Group movement speed buffs are always welcome.

Most of the fighting is in groups, not often 1 on 1. Lots of shooting up or down walls. Make sure to have an escape and condition removal ready. If you are rolling with 2 melee weapon sets, you’re going to have problems. It’s mostly ranged, the further the better.

I agree with the OP.

I think it would bring more tactics to WvW if we could reset traits and customize our build while OOC just like in sPvP.
I think it would be that way except that they need a carrot on a stick for people to do objectives. I’m sure there are ways around this though.

I disagree, at least insofar as thinking that sPvP builds are good for WvW.

As an engineer, I made a “flamethrower shocktroop” build that basically specializes in burst flamethrower attacks and enough survivability to run away with. It’s really not an sPvP build. It’s not a particularly good 1v1 build. I don’t really need the emergency escape ability for PvE so it’s not exactly a PvE build.

It’s a WvW build.

If anything, I could see a case for letting us have 3 saved trait layouts: WvW, PvE and sPvP. WvW traits will still work like now (must spend money to respec, must level them up over time) but at least it will be on its own set.

I made the same choise as Slamz. Speccing in sPvP is easy and fast, so that’s that. But with PvE and WvW, you have to make a decision, which will you focus on? Sure you can make a build that works for both PvE and WvW, but anyone worth his salt in the field has thought about his build with WvW in mind. To my ease, the PvE build I run is not too much different from the WvW one.

i agree with the OP. i use completly diferent pve build. to get my pvp build in wvw, which i would prefere, would cost 2g every time… and 2g for getting back to pve…
