despawn would be abused by trolls, i like those siege implementations if the trolls issue could be adressed.
Or maybe reason to guilds starting use more guild siege where only guild members could despown it, unless other guild takover the siege (enemy commander would have an option to takeover enemy siege).

on lower tiers that would meke player to get more organized and brainstorm more ways to get stuff
Aeolus: you are right, BUT we had a ppl selection. Zerg-ppl moved away to high tiers or in EOTM.
People in low tiers are organized enough but if you have to take a keep full upgraded with ACs, TREBs, Catas, you need a minimum of ppl: only to bring enough supplies as example!

keep in mind that enemies would be able to use the siege too… so unless you destroy it after use or when a place gets infiltrated, your own siege could be used against you.
also with trolls placing random siege everywhere… the server would not have to wait for the siege to despawn, they could just destroy it instantly. Trolls would soon get tired and bored.

I think the troll issue is more about he troll destroying siege rather than placing it.
I’m unclear why Alysia thinks this would make lower tiered players leave WvW. I hate having to run around three keeps and four towers trying to keep siege refreshed. This would make this unnecessary, allowing me to throw and build siege and then be able to roam or zerg without having to keep one eye on the clock.

You obviously have not seen 15 ballistas facing a keep lord.
Maybe I’m just a god but it takes me much less than 5 minutes to tap seige and then catch up to the group I had been running with. I don’t see any way this is a problem except that you’re lazy.

smithkt: my doubts came from one of the last weeks. In EB, Anvil rock vs Eredon terrace (yeah we are in the bottom of NA server list).
ET sieged Ogrewatch with 7 sup ac, 4 balli, 4 trebs and for unknown reason, 1 ram near lord.
It was an hard fight.
Here is an idea I will throw out for siege…
No need to refresh siege anymore… all siege lasts 24 hours and then dies regardless.
BUT… all siege is useable by any server that gains access to it
BUT… any server can destroy siege – including the server that placed it there in the first place.
I am all for not needing to refresh siege.
The tapping is boring. The user interface insists on spinning your camera on every tap. There are no map symbols to locate siege weapons – except sometimes for trebuchets.
On low population servers the duty falls on ever fewer individuals – no wonder. It takes a significant amount of time keeping all siege refreshed on a map when you are alone doing it.
Siege usable by all servers… this could lead to lot of funny encounters. It would probably lead to more problems than it is worth. Knocking an enemy off ballista to use it against him right would be hilarious. Attackers would have to trace back and destroy their own siege after a capture. I assume the NPCs would no longer attack siege weapons.
Able to damage all siege weapons is not a good idea. It would be very difficult to defend your siege getting destroyed on field. Your AoE would hit the siege, too. Your siege would hit your siege, too: no more golem/ram/ballista arrays. Lots of griefing.

5 players taking a empty server?
This actually has merit but needs a few tweaks.
Here are a few of my thoughts
1. Once deployed, siege has a 24 hr timer.
2. if the siege is unattended for more than 30min, it reverts to a “grey” state, i.e neutral and belonging to neither side.
3. If the siege is in a grey state, a player has to “capture” the siege, which is a 2.5s process. This applies to all players except the owner of the siege who will instantly regain control of it when they interact with it.
4. The siege gains a new utility skill. “Spike siege” which is a 1s skill on slot 6 that instantly despawns the siege to deny it to the enemy.
5. If the enemy captures the tower/keep/garrison before the defenders can destroy the siege, then all the siege inside comes under their control. I’ve always felt that capturing a keep/garrison/tower which has been heavily fitted with defenses and after a great deal of fighting, capturing a post full of defenses would be a good bonus reward.
6. With the exception of trebuchets, all siege can be movable but a player would be moving at the same speed as if they had a full pack. It’s never made sense as to why siege can’t be moved. I mean, they have wheels for crying out loud.

Idea 1. Alpha and Omega Golems can be repaired using supply
Idea 2. Damaged Golems left in a designated zone near the supply dumps will be repaired by workers if the worker upgrade has been purchased. This costs supply.
To offset these added features,
1. the cost of siege needs to go up.
2. The number of siege that can be deployed on a map should be limited to minimise spam.
