SBI is a highly skilled server i can definitely vouch for them that they are tough competitive kittens! with CD recently receiving KWBH i think SBI would need the coverage to keep up so if you want to go to SBI then i can definitely recommend it obviously i’m not in SBI so can only see their WvW from a external position.

From my experience, lower tiers WvW tend to be a little more organized, mostly because it is easier to coordinate a group of 20-25 people, than it is to coordinate 50-60 people. Also, lower amount mean you have to think harder and elaborate strategy to overcome larger number. What I dislike though, is the importance of the siege against when in smaller zerg.

We have our server forum with a private section for confirmed server mates: http://www.stormbluffisle.com/index.php/forum
We have our own teamspeak 3 server. We have multiple events and training sessions through out the weeks. We don’t have huge dedicated WvW guilds, but rather many smaller guilds working together and trying to make WvW fun for everybody.

Essentially, SoS has been stomping everyone for weeks and hasnt moved out of the tier, either because they dont want to or because the rating system is full of fail (they are currently winning and losing rating because they arent winning “hard enough”).

Most of the time, everyone sticks to their own home map, responding with 20-30 to retake a camp that had been captured by 1-2 people. Then there is primetime, where most everyone still sticks to their home map, responding with 50-60 people to retake a camp captured by 5-10 people. I can’t really speak for Eternal, its usually fairly equal there with zergs on all sides.

If you want to follow the zerg around our home map or karma farm camps like a kitten, SBI is the place to be. I doubt its an SBI specific problem, WvW is broken pretty much everywhere because Anet is incentivizing zerging instead of smaller group engagements.

SBI has not one full blown WvWvW guild to speak of. We kind of do everything with a pretty strong pug militia. We can field a large number of players typically primetime eastern. We don’t utilize siege enough but we do really well in open field fights. As far as stability goes, we don’t have any more guilds to lose, our last 50+ person guild transferred to SoR long ago. You certainly will find no lack of targets here, if that means anything.

May be a failing in SBI’s strategy during your play times. We’ve certainly sent people onto the CD map during Oceanic times to try to relieve the pressure, but we still need to work on our methods to make it more effective. (And yes, we hit SoS BL as well… although late at night they don’t always look much different…)

We do have the [SBI] guild which is mainly a gathering of WvW players from several guilds across the server. As far as specific guilds with a heavy WvW presence – but by no means WvW-exclusive – we have Kiwi (actually Koreans), KT, AB, MMAD, TwiA off the top of my head. These are just the ones I see during Oceanic hours when I’m online – I think PuG and SENT have a presence during NA primetime.

There’s JIC, as well. I’m not sure how many of them aren’t the same guy, but he’s pretty much a guild-in-one.

If you are kitten and worried about points, don’t bother coming to SBI/tier 4. SoS is not stomping anyone on the battlefield. They pvd their points lead during early morning NA time. As Bannok has said, we do really well as a server in open field battles and tend to not enjoy sitting behind broken AC’s, trying to zoom them out to infinity and beyond!! Plenty of zergy battles in EB and many smaller scale battles in the BL’s. If you play during NA night time, we a have a good population but are greatly lacking during sea/oceanic times.

I certainly enjoy it more than our T1 days, when everything was queued, and if you weren’t in a big guild you were basically dragging the group down. I played a lot back then, but I never stood up or really tried to be actively helping everyone because it didn’t matter. I did, however, take the opportunity to learn what I could from everyone there. It was only after all of those guilds left that I started really enjoying WvW, and when I started really contributing during my (admittedly limited) online time.

I enjoy our current match-up a lot, even if we have no hope of beating SoS, and even if we lose our points basically every night to PvD and lose all of our upgrades. It can be a bit demotivating towards the end of the week when upgrading means less and a lot of players have to work, but overall it’s a good experience, and one I enjoy thoroughly.

First when people started realizing that WvW was hard work with no reward we had a lots of WvW guilds shrinking/showing up less/closing. WM was the only one to transfer early as far as I know, the remaining guilds left at the closing of free transfers. Some felt they had the burden of carrying the whole server, others were just afraid of ending up in a dead server, which would not be the case.

As a CD player, and in my opinion, SBI fields much better roamers than SoS. They are great open field fighters. With SoS I know that we’ll either get zerged by SoS or they’ll run away.

This has been pretty much my experience – I’ve only seen a few SBI roamers (I typically focus on trying to do anything against SoS, partially because they’re generally beating us in points and partially because SBI doesn’t generally have anybody in CD Borderlands), but they’ve always put up a good fight (or been good sports when I decided to stand aside and let them pass). SoS roamers…the only ones I have much trouble killing one-on-one are Mesmers (so. many. clones.) and Thieves (Heartseeker spam and Shadow Refuge when I get the edge, then they run the hell away when I keep getting the edge), although there was one Warrior who actually managed to give me a run for my money at the Redvale Refuge sentry last night. Everyone else just takes a while.

Of course, the solution to SoS’s issue seems to be zerging. I’d suggest guerrilla tactics for SBI, myself; I don’t even give half a kitten if it ends up leading to Crystal Desert’s downfall in this particular match, as it’s just so kitten boring to fight massive zergs. Matter of fact…personally, I’m done with WvW until we’re fighting a server that’s not so heavily-populated that it can simply zerg everything.

It’s no fun if there’s no chance of victory due to simple numbers, as opposed to any amount of skill.

There are a number of posters to this thread who usually post rubbish. Some post what they have actually seen and I thank them for it. I will try to do the second.

SBI, appears to me to be a fairly well co ordinated server. During NA prime ( or 6-7 hrs after reset ) they have some very good groups/players who do well against other groups/players. Early Oceanic they hang on well and have shown some spirited defences while outmanned.

SoS has significant Mid oceanic numbers and both SBI and CD tend to become defensive and/or opportunist during these hours, I would do the same in their position.

As someone who solo roams 7 of my 8 professions, I have met many fine players but see virtually zero overall skill level differences between servers. Ego often clouds people’s minds.

My suggestion is;

1. look at any ego driven or trashy posts, read all previous posts from that player and decide which should be put on ignore and which heeded.

2. Give SBI a go, I fought them in t1 and they were basically a fine crowd, I see much the same quality of player here in t4.

What I love is that this perception about SoS in open field combat, comes from EB where we typically do not send our organized guilds and effective combatants. If you want to WvW and your guild is not organized at the moment, it’s a given you go to EB to karma train and wreck some CD (because SBI is the opposite of us and brings their best to EB, all the time).

So (insert name of one of the two SBI forum warrior/WvW commanders who live on here) kills some disorganized PuGs in EB, who aren’t even on TS; and declares their server superior in open-field combat.

So what happened last night? When I got on we curbstomped your zerg at least three times in under 15 minutes. I’m pretty sure I Earthshaker’d Bannok at least twice, with him dying at my feet both times (credit to you if that was you, or whoever the crazy Guardian (ranked a General) who dives into the middle of our zerg).

The truth is, the only group that has given any kind of open field fight worthy of being called such, is KIWI. They are the only ones who bring a fight away from a tower and want to mix it up.

SBI typically just doesn’t engage without superior numbers and CD lives behind ACs. I think they should put an AC as their server’s flag.

So don’t run over some hapless PuGs in a loose-knit group, being run by one of our guildless commanders; and declare yourselves superior.

Take on some of our organized groups like ENVY, FANG, FATE, and SOV (and many others I’m not listing, no disrespect intended). (I’d say TS, but they are later in the evening typically, and volumes soaked in bitter tears have been written about our late night presence).

SBI has got some talented individual players and is currently somewhat unlucky in that they’d probably be more at home in T5 in terms of overall population and coverage. However, in all honesty, your pugs (and I’m talking about the actual pugs, not the people from the notable guilds who just happen to be running with a random group) are worse than CD’s. They’re not terrible by any stretch of the imagination but between gearing, effective use of classes and overall skill, on average they could be a lot better.

In all honesty, I think one of the major problems with SBI is that is has very few actual competitive PvPers, and far too many PvEers trying to roleplay as PvPers.

There is a lot of “play for fun,” going around, and very little “play to win.”

There are a few commanders who are trying to bring the community together and do have decent leadership. However on the flip side there is very little cohesion and coherence in the zergs that they lead (or “armies” as one likes to call them,) which in my opinion leads to a very half-hearted approach and mediocre results.

If you’re just looking for a group of people to “have fun,” with then I think SBI would be a pretty good choice.

However if you’re looking for a group of players that have a competitive spirit and want to get somewhere, then I cannot suggest SBI as a good server choice.

It’s really funny how wrong you guys actually are. Stormbluff was in trouble. Up to the point of the end of “free transfers” the game was in “beta” mode. When they announced free transfers are left for 1 more week, it was time for everyone to pick their “final” server and start the “new tournament”. Many guilds took the pro’s and con’s of each server to conclude which server you want to choose.

In addition, when WM left SBI kept fighting. It didn’t really matter that they left, SBI had the potential. At that point it simply lacked confidence amongst the militia. Many guild leaders wanted to preserve their guild and give them the brightekittenture. Therefore, any competitive WvW leader will look at their guild and make the best decisions for them.

Finally, for 2-3 months up the the moment of transfer there were many leadership meetings, filled with talk, the same talk, meeting after meeting without action. No plan we placed was ever executed.

When you take all 3 of these factors, you have the reason why the guilds left Stormbluff. Sorry if you don’t like it.

1. Guild Leaders weighed the pros and cons of each world, and decided Stormbluff was not for them. Specific reasons why are probably rather varied.

2. When WM left, there was a big drop in morale leading up to the exodus.

3. The SBI server community is mostly all talk and 0 action.

These are the 3 points I could figure out from Mayochiki’s post.

So for stormbuff isle is the wvw scene actually good? I’d imagine all the organized guilds and commanders are on the tier 1 servers, but is the lower tier servers still fun to play on?

Like any server in the wvw scene you will get a mixed reaction as to whether it’s good or not. SBI has it’s moments like all the others. I am SBI so perhaps a little biased here, but overall, yes we do actually have good times, yes we also have not so good times.
There are epic battles thanks to the opposition, which, by majority are good sports.

I moved my guild here from another server a few months ago and it’s been good from the moment we touched down. The community is welcoming, helpful and friendly.

We don’t have zergs that are as big as the higher tiers, so the groups are tighter, work well together and enjoy what we’re doing most of the time. If you’re not here, then come try us out, if you are here, then come on in to wvw

Just curious, I remember SBI being nr1 america server, what made them drop? This is by no means offence, just curious how it happened.

You’re giving those people too much credit. They left because things got tougher after WM was gone. Nothing more.

I’m ex-SBI, so that would be giving myself too much credit. I actually feel responsible for what happened back there, I was an officer in a big guild and I got burned out of the game. I felt like I was leaving allies to fight and die alone. For that I can’t blame anyone for leaving as I was part of the problem.

I agree about the meetings, those were frustrating. But don’t kid yourself with this “beta mode” talk, nothing changed with the paid transfers. Guilds are still server hopping, they are just slower now. Wvw players losing interest in the game was a major factor at SBI disbanding, I can’t believe you would disagree with that.

It’s definitely not shrinking any more, that’s for sure. I actually see groups of people at night now.

There was a big strain on NA guilds back before SBI exodus. Take that and the opportunity to start new and the lack of any guilds publically announce they were going to xfer to SBI after transfers close; these were why the SBI guilds at the time went different directions.
