take WvW offline before massive changes.
If the server merge is true its already botched. Assuming that the idea of the leak is that the Anet friendly guilds received information ahead of time and leaked accordingly. And locking the servers will just lead to less player involvement. They aren’t going to play on a server where they don’t enjoy the matchup.
But in all fairness a merger is a band aid at best. People will always transfer from servers they perceive as failing and move to servers where they can be assured of regular wins. Its just the nature of the server system. Unless they break it down to something ridiculous like 2 tiers. Create an artificial shortage to ensure that the maps always remain populated.
I think whatever they are doing its probably not the end game in terms of population balance. Its just a way to retain the population while they hash out a more permanent fix. Of course I could be wrong and they could suddenly bust out a whole new system. Its happened before.
When they introduced DBL, they took wvw offline for 2 or 3 days before reset. I’d imagine if we are getting a population change, especially a big one, we’ll see wvw itself go offline Tuesday and resume on Friday. As far as lockout of transfers in the down time, I believe that would be a good idea, since speculartory information which could very well be factual information tends to slip out. It would also be nice of any player that does or has transferred between now and pre patch lockout gets hit with a 2 week waiting period before entering wvw post pop change.
[HaHa] Hazardous Hallucination
With the massive server stacking this week, I’m hoping the Dev’s are smart enough to take WvW offline before making any changes. That includes locking World transfer’s and getting accurate population estimates before making any population changes.
Anyone else thinking the 19th is going to be botched if preventative measures aren’t taken?
There is not any point to that honestly, the devs already have all the statistics and players would move anyway after being unlocked.
You can’t shut down any game mode either.
We don’t know what “population balance” entails anyway.
Server transfers locks are only done for tournament time, and players should be able to shuffle wherever they like outside of that.

I would love to know where people get all their garbage info from. Alot of things have been said by Anet, nothing about merging servers.
Whenever there will be a wvw update next is gonna have a live beta , so why would they shut down wvw for that?
I would love to know where people get all their garbage info from.
Here, you should try reading, it can be quite informative…..

If I were you, I’d wait to see what we are doing with the population beta before transferring servers. Feel free to do what’s in your heart though”

See, this is the problem as it’s past tense. Any statistics they “already have” are now highly inaccurate for Tier 1 and Tier 2. Any subsequent actions base upon old data will be flawed. Hence why locking transfer’s and recalculating are in order.

DeWolfe my friend, this is live beta. We don’t need any drastic measures here.

What’s the point of even having a test to among other things look for fixes to pop imbalance if players are just going to stack servers and manipulate collected data because they are allowed to. A lockout on transfers or waiting period for play, would be the right call regardless of whether or not this is a live test, if it in any way is testing population, the populations shouldn’t be manipulated in furthet by players or guilds server jumping during testing.
[HaHa] Hazardous Hallucination
It could be argued that population migration is valuable data to collect if you are investigating whether or not server mergers can fix the population imbalance. But locking transfers at this point after guilds have already moved and stacked would just lock in the imbalance.
I do feel that if they are trying to merge servers they should do so based on population the night of the reset. I have no data to suggest they wont do this or something similar. I also have no data suggesting they will actually merge servers, just rumors. I am going to wait to see what they do and then provide feedback to improve the process. It may be me but it seems to be the best course of action. Sure my server may get the short end of the stick, or it may not. I don’t know what will happen and really at this point its a little late to change what they are going to implement.
In the meantime I’ll continue to enjoy wuv wuv and my fantastic community. No reason to get all bent out of shape over things that haven’t even happened yet.
Bring back free transfers so stacking on servers can happen again and the Q’s can be back to where it belongs. 1-3 hours per day. The way it is right now, that’s the only way to even out the population…
