They weren’t new players, they were on my old guild who have been playing quite sometime in both WvW and pvp. 2 of them were tanky types.. not sure about the other 4 though.
You see there is not much you can do if a thief decides to break stealth and nearly kill a bunker build on their first hit, then get lucky with the next strike to kill.. if not, just stealth, rinse and repeat.. before anybody can act.
This should not be the case. Stealth should be given at minimum a 15s cooldown after a thief comes out of stealth
You saw 6 people (from your OLD guild) get killed by a solo thief.
2 of them were bunker type builds but you don’t know what the others were.
One bunker was almost killed on the first shot and finished on the next strike.
You don’t mention the others.
So where were you when this was happening?
Were you in the party, perhaps the first bunker that got rinsed?
How else do you know it was 2 shots?
What the kitten were the rest of the group doing, gathering for dailys?
Even if it’s partially true, it certainly sounds like it happened before many thief nerfs and the group were just clueless.
Are you guys still crying about thieves? I just saw a Guardian solo twelve people at once, they are the ones that need to be nerfed.

meh. i play thief, and i’ve played all the different weapon sets on thief. to those who say there’s a significant initiative cost on d/p black powder heartseeker stealth, that just means you’re not traiting properly. when i used d/p it there was no huge initiative cost for the permanent, at will stealth it gave me.

I challenge you to pull up a video of 1 other profession doing this.

To maintain balance, every mechanic must have a counter.
If no counter is present, you will be left with an overpowered mechanism.I believe this is the smartest answer here.
Give certain classes some trait that allows them to knock things out of stealth. For example, Rangers could knock them out of stealth with traps, Engineers could use their turrets, Necromancers could use their wells, etc.
This is a great idea, though I’d propose a simpler solution. Ranger pets (at least canines) could track stealthed opponents if they had them targeted before the stealth- couldn’t attack them, but would follow them exactly.
And if any class manages to cause them burning (while they are stealthed, or before if the method of entry doesn’t cure burning), the flame particle effect would remain visible during stealth until the stealth is dropped.

A D/D Elementalist can do it! It’s the only profession that has the potential to be more annoying than a Thief. They’re the only non-Thief profession I consistently have trouble killing in WvW.
Other than that, though, I think that’s about it. D/D Eles and Thieves need to be toned down. (That’s coming from someone who had a level 80 D/D Ele and stopped playing because it was way too easy to kill people and/or get away from people. Facerolling is boring when it’s not at least kind of a challenge.)

Roll a thief and see how often you can solo 6. It just wont work against players that aren’t very new. You might have a chance of winning against 3, but not 6.

All of the enemy players in that video are clearly very new. Seriously, that thief carries dagger storm. In any real fight that gets you killed in about 2 seconds. He’s also no doubt a very good thief, but my point is that should there been more seasoned players in those groups, he would have taken big chunks of damage while spinning, forcing him to cancel it. But what happent instead ? The fools kept bouncing projectiles to themselves.
This is just broken. As been told there is no other evidence (video) that any other class can do that.
They could perhaps win the fights, d/d certainly can, but the problem is that they can’t roam without being chased down constantly. That’s why you see mostly thief solo videos.

If you want to kill several players easily – choose thief, if you want to ride in the middle of zerg, and walk away like nothing happened – choose thief. Man you are out of your mind. This is not question of class specialization, this is matter of insane advantage for one class.
Except that advantage is open to everyone, on every job. Let me show you the stealth and run away option open to all, I actually rerolled my guardian after spending 300+ gold on my old one just for this skill.
So what you’re saying is stealth is strong in this game that you were willing to throw away 300+ gold and totally reroll purely for one stealth on a long CD. Excellent point.

Its the combination of stealth to dump all targets and none-AOEs then dashing 1600 then leaping 600 in about 3 seconds that makes it amazing. After doing that, youre out of combat range, and if you have no conditions on your health will fully regen and you can WP out or you can just keep running and laugh at them if theyre even trying to keep up. And if they are, simply restealth, turn 90 degrees and dash again.

When people enter WvW, then enter it traited to whichever is going to help group play the most. I don’t know of very many people who enter WvW traited for sPvP as it will be extremely ineffective compared traited for group play.
Also, how many people enter in full berserker gear? Thiefs can get away with it as they can stealth out whenever they please; every other class are sitting ducks. Granted I go in full berserker gear, but I expect to get my butt handed to me in nearly all 1v1 situations.
Taking this info, you take master of any class and trait/gear themselves how they would in WvW, then match them up with a thief how they’d enter WvW; then stick them in a typical situation on how a battle would start: A thief stealth attacking them then go from there… what do you think the outcome is going to be.. every single time..
A) Thiefs kills them in seconds
B) Thief cant kill initially, continually stealths out to reset fight until they can kill
C) Thief gives up and stealths out and leaves fight

Nothing has been proven, it is what it is unless shown otherwise. You seem to forget Jacklo, that players can trait either for WvW or sPvP. I’m well aware that a warrior or ranger traited for sPvP will probably wipe the floor with a thief if both players are of similar skill level. I don’t know of many people who trait for single player in WvW..
If you can prove otherwise.. then by all means, if you can’t, well.. zip it
In regards to the other situation, 2 of the members were in my guild on a different server (i swapped about 3 weeks ago), this happened just prior to that. The other 4 were not, so I don’t know about their skill levels. Of the 2, one was a warrior, the other a guardian; guardian built tanky as far as I know, but im not sure how the warrior was built. Neither of them have any problems soloing most fights. I was in a keep near by manning a mortar trying to shell a group battle behind them.
What do I see in the end.. 6 of those pretty blue revive signs over corpses.. lol. Ya.. something needs to be done.

There are two things that need to happen without touching stealth.
- Either you gain regeneration through stealth OR you losing conditions. Both in combination is too good
- Finishing from stealth should not work.

I played thief for 1k hours, I enjoyed it. but must admit I get sick of all the stealth-heal up and come back, because they Do not have skills to acutally dodge,
give back 4 second reveal, or make thives decide between conditon removal or healing in stealth. That will balance it just fine.
Thieves are not overpowered, but no class should be able to run from 90% of his mistake or death, Sword-Dagger, Dagger-pistol, shadowstep,blinding powder and shadow refuge, more or less standard setup.

Do how know how weak an all thief team is in comparison to other class combinations? An all thief the team would get owned by an all Guard team/dd ele/mesmer team, a mixture of classes would be stronger Guard, cc hammer War, dd ele mesmer, Necro. So small/large man team wise/ thieves and not the best. 1v1 thiefs are not the best Phant Mesmer, DD ele and High engi are better in 1v1 and bring more to a team than a thief does. Thieves are the best a yak slapping i’ll give them that. At best thieves are annoying not op, part of being evasive and being able to escape is a part of the thief class so you just gonna have to suck it up and get over that. If you manage to fight off a thief and coz him to run good on you at that point just leave and go about you business its very hard for a thief to land Backstab on a moving target(without bas venom) and if they do chase you beware they are mostly likely wasting there initiative to catch up with and will be disadvantage for the next incounter. If they HS spam to get you 1. hs doesnt do any real dmg unless the targets health is 50% or below, 2 Most thieves can only hit there big numbers from the side or back. So if they start hs spamming turn around take the hs hit and start attacking them you will most likely take them out b4 they take you out. Also lots of thieves like to press hs 2-3times so by the time they realize there target is going to kill them it is to late they will finish the hs spam and most likely die.

- Heartseeker, the damage on this is so overpowered, as of it can be used up to 5 times when at full initiative. How to kill someone as a Heartseeker spammer: 3k, 3k, 3k, 5k, 8k, -dead- if they are bunker, they will be less than 30% health.
- Cloak and Dagger, let’s see; up to 7k damage, stacks vulnerability, AND stealths you! wtf?
Any glass cannon profession hit for those big numbers.
In WvW I have fought a glass cannon necro and he hit like an absolute truck and rarely died (only died once during 4 to 5 fights with our guild). A glass cannon shatter mesmer bursts players down to zero in 1 attack (and they are just as hard to chase down and kill as a thief). A glass cannon rifle warrior will kill almost any profession with 1 shot from a 1500 range.
So the problem isn’t with thieves, it is a problem with how powerful glass cannon builds can scale up.
Ideally, glass cannons builds need to do less damage and tank builds need to have less survivability.
That would solve quite a few of the OP (damage/tank) builds in the game.
As for stealth stomps – I think mist form stomp is more OP and stability stomps are next with stealth stomps coming third. I tried to stealth stomp someone during a fight and hammer warrior saw me and came over the body and used ‘Staggering Blow’ to knock me off them. With mist form and stability stomp that move would have been impossible and the person would have died. The fact that mist form allows you stomp without interruption / damage makes it the most powerful stomp in the game.
There are aspects/builds of many professions that are OP. It doesn’t mean they need to be nerfed. e.g.,
Mesmer: shatter builds
Engineer: grendade/might stacks builds
Necro: double health bar
Warrior: highest base damage, highest vitality, very fast (sword/warhorn, greatsword)
Guardian: tank builds
Ele: tank/self healing/regen builds
Ranger: beastmaster builds
Thief: burst builds

this is not the scariest guardian build out there. In fact, it’s one of the most laughed at builds by other guardians. Tank builds serve very little purpose outside bunkering points in spvp and being a healbot in wvw.
removing mug critical hit still makes thiefs in www too strong as due to www environment they can stay perma invisible and cloak delay from 4 to3 second was a mistake as it actualy make fight against them results in certain death as well with ability to finish in stealth
conditions removal and healing in stealth with ability go to stealth and hit from stealth without any penalizations as they can cloak within second with heavy dmg makes them extremely hard to kill even with several experienced players as they can fully regenerate in few seconds because stealth remove agression from them
They can remove our stealth completely - noobs will find a reasons to whine anyway.

But problem is that thief has decent dmg +insane survivability + kitten god skills in one build, this is what we talk about. See my linked videos if you are thinking this is normal, someone should go out of his shadows and try other class then you would see that is just impossible to achieve and insane.

-Trajectory modified to not be linear
-Range reduced by 25%
-Mistform no longer can heal
-dagger earth 3: redesigned the skill so is no more a mobility skill.
-Healing reduced in 3 different skills/traits
Try to write something similar to thief like:
-Thief can no longer heal in stealth
-thief stealth duration reduced to 1/4
-infiltrator Arrow redesigned
-revealed debuff is now 15 seconds
That would sound balanced to usual balancing patch other classes are used too.
You can still try to equip a PvT/cleric armor…nobody does that now but only because there is no need.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

But problem is that thief has decent dmg +insane survivability + kitten god skills in one build, this is what we talk about. See my linked videos if you are thinking this is normal, someone should go out of his shadows and try other class then you would see that is just impossible to achieve and insane.
