tips for wvw combat
There is a WvW guide pinned in this forum which is very helpful and thorough.
Best tip – make sure you enjoy and don’t mind dying. You’re gonna die… a lot… the more you die the more you learn to stay alive and make your profession and build work the way that suits your needs.
Be sure to read map chat all the time to stay up to date with enemy movements and you team strategies.
Buy the best gear and weapons you can afford (all the time)!
Keep the Faith (and stay out of AC fire)
Don’t use a glass cannon gear loadout.

hi all,
i am playing guild wars 2 for a while but i feel that im pretty weak in wvw…
can someone teach me some helpful tips?
Easy, Anet make their game to be played in Zerg vs Zerg, brainless fight. Just follow commander and upgrate your rank, spamming aoe.
P/D condition dmg – D/D condition dmg – Oo this hurt !
here are a few off top:
- learn when to dodge and how to, but don’t spam it!
- can make a BIG difference learning other classes. if not in super detail, at least learn their big moves or openers so you’ll know how to counter them / avoid them, etc
- furthermore, also knowing their downed state skills and what to expect helps staking them or defeating them
- have enough condition removal, stun beaks, stability
- don’t get tunnel vision, no matter what. know when to engage and disengage. don’t chase half a map just to get one guy, in risk of splitting up with your group (if not solo) and / or running into enemy groups
- this one’s more obscure, but learn to play aggressively (while still playing smart), which from my experience, in general forces your opponents to play more defensively. turn the tide of battle in you favor
Akaigi | Warrior Made of Wood
[CDS] – Sanctum of Rall
I suggest figuring out how you personally like to play, and build around that.
- use the best gear you can + consumables, right off the bat that should give a decent stat boost.
-check your traits, are they optimal for what you want to do? Check guides, experiment around a bit till you feel like you have something that works.
-Review your skills- Do you lack condition removal? Do you have a stunbreaker? How about a gapcloser or escape skill? If not can you play around not having them?
-Review opponent skills- What do you feel weak to? Are thieves oneshotting you? mesmers confusing you all day? Learning a bit about the classes that give you the most trouble is a good start to improving.
And thats all I got off the top of my head- Glhf out there.
Former top 50 spvp engi main.
combo fields/finishers are really important, A group of 20 that stacks up, then stacks might and retaliation are going to run over a group of 40-50 with ease, well sorta with ease(gotta know what to do still). Best way you can become more effective at WvW imo though is to know the difference between when to confront the enemy and when not to. Nothing frustrates me more then 20 people running off in the opposite direction to chase down one player. Finish the objective, get kills in the process, then sweep and finish off the stragglers. That one loot bag will not contain a precursor/legendary….its not worth getting your group wiped at the gate because half of you ran off to chase down 1-3 people who are just running away and will get wiped if they come back to you.
P.S. EVERY TOWER/KEEP CAN BE DEFENDED EVEN AFTER THE GATE/WALL FALLS DO NOT RUN, unless your commander says so I guess. :P tired of trying to play defense after the gate/wall comes down alone, there’s a choke point now people, hold them at it!!!!!!! my two cents.

Spend a day or two in sPvP
Malzerius – Thief
Dark Covenant (SBI)
Pretty much what everyone else has said, specifically the learning through dying thing Scleameth.6809 said.
Know your surroundings. If an enemy gets an “obstructed”, it’s a free evade, so dip behind hills, strafe around pillars, etc.
