Although trebuchets are a very useful piece of siege, they are the most mind-numbingly boring piece of siege to operate (only exception is when counter-trebbing). Holding down the 2 button for hours on end to take down a T3 wall and then receiving no reward whatsoever when your teammates run in and cap the tower makes the experience even more… “enjoyable.”

I would kill for an ability in the trebuchet mastery line that allows you to set the treb to autofire (perhaps for like 10 minutes?). This change would also have the side effect of dramatically increasing the number of flaming projectiles in the air at any given moment (which would be AWESOME).

Yeah I would be happy if it autofired 10 times then needed to be pressed again even. Just something to remove the pain of holding down 2.

I barely can chat while trebbing because my WPM is so bad. :\

I think the fire system is perfect, ie aim and arc. But having automated fire would be awesome.

Hell they could even reduce cost and damage if this was done, so we could set up large AI siege teams and focus on the actual fun of combat. 10 trebs pounding garrison would look awesome. Give them a bit random aim to avoid identical trajectories, but otherwise hit roughly where a player set it to auto fire.

Never going to happen though.

Its fine the way it is. If you really want a keep, and have to resort to trebs, well, dedicate yourself to taking the keep. If you don’t have that dedication, you don’t deserve the keep.

Still ain’t fair that the operator gets no reward. Should at least get a chest when the Lord dies.

P.S. That actually happened to me t’other day. I was mortaring WC from Green keep and hit the Lord’s room a few times. When the cap happened, I got a chest!

For the good of the server….
People don’t enjoy fixing walls and gates, or building cannons and oil to be fun but we do it because it needs to be done. Just a shame that while we do the boring shizzzz for the good of the server the zerglings get all the Wxp and champion lootbags.

To give it some realism, when you set up a treb, an npc should spawn, maybe 10k hp, that once you set up the autofire, takes over for you, and fires where you locked the auto-fire. You can take back over at any time, to adjust the firing path.

If he gets killed it should take a couple minutes (maybe 2) for another soldier to make his way onto the battlefield to replace him. Essentially making autofire something that can be turned off easier than killing the treb. This would give thieves something to do in WvW zergs, disable trebs so that players have to use them. Anyway, I think auto fire should have its limitations.

All siege equipment looks ugly, no animation, no colours, no differing textures.
You can’t move them, which is ridiculous especially when some of them even have wheels. They are mind-numbingly slow, clunky and boring to operate.

In short, they need a lot of work.

No need for some sort of auto-respawn of dead NPCs. Mechanic would be really simple:

- Trebuchet is built
- Player gets in trebuchet, aims, shoots at 70% power and then click a new “Siege Team” button. You can only activate it by having enough points in treb mastery, otherwise greyed out/missing.
- Players gets ejected from the siege and replaced with an NPC and possibly a guard or two nearby (depending on the level of the players treb mastery).
- The trebuchet is now locked to the player until the siege team despawn/get killed, no one but the player can enter. If he enter, the team is removed and a charge is used.
- NPC will keep firing at current direction, 70% power (+-5%, +-5 degrees).
- If the NPC is killed but the treb is still alive, another player have to enter the treb and click the “Siege Team” button again, which has a limited amount of charges (lets say 5).
- An NPC Siege Team will provide fire for 10 minutes, then they despawn and someone need to enter and click the button again. If the player modify the aim and fire a shot, the siege team will take this new info, otherwise its what it had before.

I see every safe spot like SM 3rd floor stuffed with trebs and guarded by entrenched armies of AC. Every tower for miles around blasted into rubble and a massive, massive zerg rolling round taking each unprotected Lord’s Room and moving on to the next. Win trading on a huge scale.

That would be great indeed. It’s the best strategy if you want to dominate Eternal Battleground and currently people have to waste all their day trebbing so a few can get all the rewards.

I would not propose an unlimited Treb autofire, but more of a limited autofire. So you set a treb to say 70% and press “5” to autofire the next 3 shots. This way players are not totally keyboard bound holding down “2” all the time. It allows the treb’ing player to give better info or at the very least chat with their guild.

Right now trebbing is like this “2………………………………………….” so what I was “2……………………………………….” thinking, was that you and “2………………………………….” Tom need to “2………………………………..”

Highly annoying.

Auto firing trebs would be easier to take out. Trebs currently need to be manned to fire and as such the operator can adjust to fire defensive shots if he notices build sites going up. An autofireing treb would not be able to do this.

And the argument about having armies of ac’s protecting the trebs is quite silly. If you are prepared to sit on an AC and defend a treb for the good of the server, you are doing something just as boring as manning the treb itself.

That was just a (somewhat hyperbolic) prediction of a possible outcome from the change proposed. The point being that it would ultimately be more boring.

I have no problem manning them. It doesn’t take that long.

What I dont like is trebs being able to hit lake from hills. A small team can do a great job and ninja the tower, only to have hills bomb the crap out of it a few minutes later.

I manage to have fun on trebs, especially when firing on an enemy building counter-siege or open field siege and being able to turn quickly and take it out, crushing their hopes and dreams. It does get a bit monotonous against a wall from a safe position, but there are times it can also be a blast.

The first trait of treb mastery should be:

Gain silver event reward if an objective that was damaged by a trebuchet you operated is captured (within 30 minutes the last damage you did to the objective)

A couple of months ago (I don’t treb often, largely for the reasons you describe) I got a Gold event reward for trebbing the Anza wall down in EBG. I mean I know 2 silver isn’t great, but there are some rewards.

Perhaps trebbers could be given a loot chest when the tower/keep/castle is taken, equal to the average loot bags per player who was attacking – so if the average zergling got 5 loot bags from attacking the fort the trebber opened for them, the ’Sieger’s Chest’ would have 5 loot bags worth of stuff in it.

Would be nice if we could switch the hold and release to being able to pick the power on a slider, keep the charging itself the same just let the player set where to release so they’re not stuck typing as Urrid showed above. Letting it auto fire wouldn’t really be in the spirit of the game.
