what are you going to do for us?
But precursors drop from rank chests!

But precursors drop from rank chests!
Said no one.
Seriously?
As purely a WvW’er, I’m sitting on the following and cannot use any of it:
1) 2.5m Karma (+64 Jugs of karma)
2) 734 Skill Points
3) Every piece of gear for my character (used all badges) + 4500 badges left overNone of which is truly useful in WvW, as I already had my primary gear sets before the changes to badges.
Where’s our unique gear that we can use these aspects of the game play that we acquire in WvW?
Why are you segregating and marginalizing people who play WvW and PvP?
I have over 1650 hrs on my guardian and still no Legendary, still no map completion, still haven’t set foot into 90% of the dungeons….
Boy, do I feel mislead about a “Player vs Player” centric game.
Clearly, people are only “legendary” if they PvE.
I too have been playing since beta and have never got a precursor ever. Then again im too lazy to pick up lootbags.
I have over 2 million karma as well ankitten ot really sure what to do with it. Maybe Devon can send me that beautiful pocket watch for 3 million karma /wink /wink. Yes im looking at you.
Well stop being a pure wvw for the half hour it takes to run down to orr. Spend that karma on a bunch of orion jewelry boxes and make 60 gold on drops. Then use those skill points and badges to make a bunch of omega golems in the mystic forge. I don’t know why you wouldn’t want the boatload of gold you are sitting on.
Acquire thousands of arrow carts.

You can do that? Holy crap, I knew PvE was where the money was, but kitten . Last time I was in Orr was… probably September.
No sympathy for the Devil, keep that in mind.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Last time i spent about 1mil karma i got roughly 36g back in drops. 2.5mil would give you quite a bit of gold xD

Superior flame rams/arrow carts actually give you the most gold per badge if you are just interested in making money.

Thanks for the tip! Kids, grab your karma jugs. We’re making a road trip!

I was just thinking in terms of spending lots of badges quickly. 100 badge per alpha golem and you would get through them quickly.
Why do you have so many skill points .. don’t make superior siege?
Spend Karma on Orrian boxes, open for crap to sell + a stupid mini you’ll have a few hundred of.
Spend skill points to turn cheap dust or other materials into better materials that you can sell on the TP for more cash. Or you could upgrade siege weapons.
Badges should be spent on traps, and traps should be laid everywhere at all times. Trap gates. Trap ramps. Trap roads. Trap your kids, trap your dog, trap your wife.

Precursors do drop from the chests, but very rarely. I’d love to say you should be able to get everything ever from just playing WvW, but not only is that not going to happen, it’s not good for the game as a whole. We will continue to do what we can to improve the rewards available from WvW and there are some developments specifically relating to skill points that are coming soon to the game as a whole, but honestly if you want to get all the things in the game, you have to play all the game. Branch out, I suspect you’ll enjoy it. And WvW will still be there when you want to play it.
The drop rate must be insanely low for precursors and rings. Someone on my server is like rank 350+ or some crazy nonsense. He said he has gotten a single ring so far. That’s insane. why isn’t the drop rate the same as with Fractal chests?
That’s funny, I got an ascended ring from my very first chest….Guess I won’t be getting a precursor then.

I have forseen it
…it was your destiny…
WvW Player: “Hey ANet, I think that passion we used to have is gone…”
ANet: “Oh come on baby, check out this living story, it’s got loads of new content.”
WvW Player: “It’s not you, it’s me…I have needs.”
ANet: “Oh come on baby, check out this living story, it’s got loads of new content.”
WvW Player: “…and I feel like you don’t even listen to me anymore…”
ANet: “Oh come on baby, check out this living story, it’s got loads of new content.”
WvW Player: “alright, !#$% this I’m out!”
ANet: “We’re aware of the problems and are working towards ideas that may potentially work to resolve them in the future.”
WvW Player: “Really!? Like what?”
ANet: “Not prepared to say at this time…in the meanwhile check out this living story, it’s got loads of new content.”
WvW Player: “Oh what the #&$%! We need a break…maybe we can try this again when you get your #$%& together!”

That’s funny, I got an ascended ring from my very first chest….Guess I won’t be getting a precursor then.
Our small 5ish man guild has combined over 10k game player hours, tens of thousands of WvW kills, hundreds of ranks, etc and none of us have ever seen a precursor or ascended ring drop from any part of the game. The drop rate must be ridiculously small… too small since the only way we are getting legendaries is to buy the precursors.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”

While we never discuss exact rates, that is not out of character with what we would expect at all. Some things are intended to be hard to get with random luck. However, you can buy Ascended gear by acquiring laurels and badges.

I’ve played 2,000 hours of WvW and I’ve gotten exactly 2 ascended rings from rank up chests (about 250 WxP ranks across all 10 characters, I play defense.) Apparently I am more lucky than most. If a PVE’er was graced with one ascended drop per 1,000 hours played they would find things, unacceptable.
PvE’ers get laurels in addition to ascended drops. As well as, a much better selection of yellows / coin. JUST. SAYIN’

Hopefully it isn’t too late but…
To get max returns on this kind of adventure get a guild to pop the +15% karma buff, eat +5% karma food (icecreams) and pop a karma booster. You will get an absolutely insane return on investment from all your various karma drops which will feed even more Orrian Jewelry boxes.
I had to ask where “Orr” was and what a Temple was in guild. I had been 80 for months. >.>

The drop rate for anything decent out of chests in low full stop, I know a few people over level 400 and they are lucky to have received a rare let alone an exotic or god forbid a pre cursor,
Takes on average an hour of play to get a WxP chest if your active, with a low chance of a rare and even lower chance of exotic and a none existent chance at pre cursor,
If you want these sort of items you should just role the world bosses/events, if you time it right you can get about 6/7 in an hour, and get 14 chests.
Precursors do drop from the chests, but very rarely. I’d love to say you should be able to get everything ever from just playing WvW, but not only is that not going to happen, it’s not good for the game as a whole. This is how I translate this most of this response:
“WvW is not the primary aspect of GW2. Its a side activity that offers some fun (and we will continue to keep trying to add bits of more fun), but if you want to really get a majority of what the game has to offer, you must play PvE. If you are looking for a complete package, large scale, open world PvP focused game, GW2 is not that game. If we were to focus on making GW2 that game, it would disrupt and hurt the PvE game we intended to be the main focus of things.”
The truth of the matter is that the devs created a car that looks like a ferarri, but drives like a yaris. It was a smart marketing move, because it sucked in all the large scale pvp gamers, despite the game not really being a game focused primarily around that. Unfortunately, it means that the next game that DOES offer large scale pvp, as its primary focused gameplay, gw2 wont be able to hold on to a lot of players who are only hanging around because of it.
Again… maybe if anet saw some sort of monitary gain from WvW players… but, in order for this to happen, they would have to sell WvW stuff on the gemshop. The permanent finishers are a good example of something that appeals to a WvW player, and has pretty much zero use outside of PvP. Others have suggested custom siege skins, custom commander pins, etc etc. All good ideas of things that could add a dollar value to WvW players for anet.
Will they do any of this? Doubtful. A year is a long time for a mmorpg in todays industry. This isnt EQ1 or UO, where taking 2+ years for decent changes and such to be added were common and gamers were willing to wait. Today, that sort of deployment plan just wont cut it. Too many other games on the market that gamers can run to if their current game is lagging behind.
The sad thing, Anet is sitting on a goldmine. WvW’s foundation is perfect, its just lacking pretty much everything that could be built upon it. I think the thing that upsets me the most is seeing what WvW could be, but isnt, and likely will never be. All because the people with the money seem to think they know what gamers want, better than the gamers themselves.
I’d love to say you should be able to get everything ever from just playing WvW, but not only is that not going to happen, it’s not good for the game as a whole. .
PLEASE NOTE: I don’t pretend to speak for anyone other than myself
Whilst I accept that you appear to have a genuine love of WvW, do you not think that that quotation shows how far we have moved from the original “play as you want to play” mindset that was so widely publicised at the games release.
If WvW / sPvP are supposed to be an integral part of GW2, then either:
1) All game rewards should be available in those modes, just as realistically as they are in PvE.
or:
2) All game rewards should require an equal amount of proficiency in (a form of) PvP as in PvE.
I currently balance my time between both modes: PvE for money / items:; WvW for fun.
Until I have exactly as much chance of getting an ascended item in 2 hours WvW as I have in 2 hours running fractals, or until I get as much gold in 2 hours of WvW as I would in running CoF for 2 hours, then the PvP/PvE “balance” is patently unreal.
I am nowhere near “elite” level PvP, but I do have thousands of kills under my belt. I have had 2 level-80 rares drop from all those kills.
I could have harvested 2 equivalent rares from spending a few minutes killing the Fire Elemental.
As I said above, I don’t speak for other PvPers, but I find that levelling a character and equipping a character is far, far easier in PvE. This, in itself, is not a problem, but if GW2 is intended to be a PvE-orientated game with a bit of PvP tacked-on as an afterthought, then I would appreciate an ANET post stating this.
At leatst then I will know that you guys are playing the same game as I am
.

My statement doesn’t require translation. WvW is a part of GW2, it is not its own game, it is not a standalone product and it is not separate from the game. Your characters from WvW are usable in PvE and vice-versa for a reason. I love WvW and prefer it to the rest of our game, but I still go and run Living World content when I feel like it. The idea is that all of our players create an ecosystem that is interdependent. If players only played one or the other, each area would be less compelling and less fun. Sure, there are some number of people who only play WvW, but more people play the rest of the game as well. If people had to pick which to play WvW would have fewer people playing it, period. Don’t confuse my belief that our game is better the more people you find around you with some sort of slighting of WvW or a statement that WvW is second best. I focus my efforts entirely on WvW every day of the week and I will continue to do so. We want everyone who buys our game to play as much of all the parts of the game they enjoy because that is what we do.

I take my karma, use it in the mystic toilet trying for a precurser. 2m karma and nothing more than a couple of dozen exotics so far.

The idea is that all of our players create an ecosystem that is interdependent.
Nope.
PvE’ers get badges for their legendary weapons from achievement chests. Oh PvE’ers get more achievement points than a WvW focused player could ever dream of acquiring.
Just the facts.

1) Achievements will be getting better for WvW in the next few builds and I totally agree with that point.
2) What I said had literally nothing to do with how you get items in the game and had everything to do with the fact that the game is just better when there are other players around. Empty maps are less fun than maps with people on them. If we didn’t encourage people to play multiple game types there would be many more empty maps.
“I got jugs they’re multiplying,and I’m losing control.”
Movie Grease 1978.
WvW loot/rewards (with the exception of karma) is terrible compared to PvE. Loot is an incentive for players to play an MMO game. If one area of the game has sub-par loot, less players will play that portion of the game. That part of the “ecosystem that is interdependent” suffers.
Thanks for your answers so far.

You don’t get WXP or ranks from PvE, so you can’t get everything from PvE. You can get quite a bit of money just from WvW alone already. If you need some items that are not from WvW, then you play the appropriate content, it’s only fair, for everyone.
Loot is an incentive for players to play an MMO game. If one area of the game has sub-par loot, less players will play that portion of the game.
Speak for yourself, I have no interest in loot or items outside of few silly skins. Large scale fights are the juice I run on and there are many who are just as content with that as I am.
They cannot make the loot in WvW on par with PvE, else we would have a zerg on each map of PvE’rs that have no interest in WvW, and you would never get in, I just hope that when they make changes to the PvE champs, it will not affect the champs in WvW.
They should make it that the PvX Chests
1-50 – Green Weapon – 20% chance at rare or better
51-100 – Green Weapon – 40% chance at rare or better
101-250 – Green Weapon – 50% chance at rare or better
251-400 – Rare Weapon – 20% chance at exotic
401-600 – Rare Weapon – 40% chance at exotic
601-999 – Rare Weapon – 50% chance at exotic
1000 – EXOTIC – 50% chance at pre cursor
1001+ Rare Weapon – 50% chance at exotic
2500 – Pre cursor
5000 – Pre cursor
7500 – Pre cursor
Every 2500 ranks after should be Pre cursor, the insane length of time needed to get to these levels is unreal, if I was to invest the same time in PvE I would probably get the pre cursors, it rewards the hardcore WvW’s the same way the game rewards the hardcore PvE’rs

Around 400 hours in WvW and never had any exotic loot. I feel lucky if I get a rare item from the chest but it is usually blue/green.
Around 1 hour in Orr and do some champs farming and 1-5 exotics plus tons of rare items and 20-30 golds.
. We will continue to do what we can to improve the rewards available from WvW …….
Hi, you might check out the loot / badge drop in wvw as it seems really got(bugged?) since the queen event got put in the game. badge drop hardly happens and it seems loot didn’t got any better to. Its not nearly as close as before the event.
Why would you play WvW for the items game? It’s not designed for that.
Hi Devon,
You posted whilst I was typing – blame my poor keyboard skills,
Yes: An entirel;y WvW version of GW2 would be as vacuuous as an entirely PvE version; and we are free to move our PvE/WvW characters freely between modes. Nevertheless, the PvE side of the game is far more rewarding than the PvP side.
All I am asking for is an equality in rewards for time spent & skill.
I have characters I am levelling – they are not yet fully-equipped. I need new gear for them.
The timer website suggests that our Frozen Maw will be up in 7 minutes…
Starting now, I will take a character to Krennaks, and you take a character to WvW. In 10 minutes time, we compare notes to see who has most gold to equip a new character. We both know who will have most.
Sorry if this looks like a personal attack, that is not my intention: I am just looking for an official response that says that GW2 is a PvE game with PvP as a sideline.
… again
I second re-checking the loot drop for WvW especially badges. I’ve had times where my server wiped 40 man zergs and I only had 2 badges to show for it. Such a wipe usually generated about 15-20 badges.
I have no problem with the present drop rates or WvW rewards. I think they’re still a noticeable bit lower than PvE, but WvW is finally to a place where it feels profitable on many fronts. I REALLY appreciate the effort ANet has put into that part of the game, and it’s slowly trickled in, but it’s WORLDS apart from where it was.
I think the rewards from WvW are just fine and “Thanks!” to anet for listening and responding to players who initially had issues with it being so “rewardless.” I make several gold every night I play WvW. It’s not as profitable as PvE farming champions, but it’s a hell of a lot more fun.

I’ve never even suspected that’s what GW2 was. It’s just….not.
GW2 is a PvE and PvP game. Period.
The rewards are different for different activities. This is why an open world event doesnt win you 1g + loot every time. People don’t generally complain that Dungeons and Events reward differently. Why should you complain that Farming PvE events rewards differently than WvW? Of course it does. It’s a different part of the game.

Was there “expect to be rewarded the same in every game mode” in the manifesto? You can play PvE or WvW all you want, but why would you expect the same rewards from them? That was never stated to happen, anywhere.

Maybe a better solution is to make the content in all the game types to be worth playing without being forced?
In past games I did a lot of PvE, I do not in this game because it is a joke. Dreadfully easy or repetitive rubbish like fractals. Really the ONLY reason to do it is money, but once you decide not to get a legendary, you have no need of money at all.
Sorry that your PvE is so bad you have to force WvWers out there, but really I would rather not have a legendary then deal with that garbage.
Why would you play WvW for the items game? It’s not designed for that.
Before siege blueprints could be sold on the trading post, as a commander, I had to buy gems to fun siege/repairs/upgrades. The WvW income was simply too little to keep up with these demands.
Also money = PVP options. For a WvW player, it was very hard to afford new sets of armor and weapons before the badge vendor was implemented.
This is how I translate this most of this response:
My statement doesn’t require translation. WvW is a part of GW2, it is not its own game, it is not a standalone product and it is not separate from the game.
Where as PvE is part of GW2, and IS its own game. We have already come to the truth that focusing just on WvW wont feel “complete” because its not meant to. However, you can focus just one PvE and take in pretty much everything the game has to offer. In fact, there are players that ONLY PvE, and you never hear them saying “Ugh, why do WvWers get X, Y and Z, but not people who do PvE?”
Im pretty certain this is where most of the griping comes from when it comes to players saying they want more from WvW. Being able to focus on one part of the game (pve) and feel like you get everything, and then focusing on another part of the game (WvW) and feeling like you are missing out on a lot.
One might ask “If WvW is not seperate from the game, why does it feel that way? Since PvE is also not seperate from the game, but is its own complete game in and of itself, completely removed from anything WvW related”
I personally dont want WvW to be a seperate game, I just want it to feel complete, much like how the PvE portion of the game feels complete. You can run around PvE and think “Wow, they are really pushing the bounds of what they are able to do with this game, this is great!”… but when you jump into WvW, all I can help thinking is "
So much untapped potential that no one seems to care about. Look at all the things they COULD do, but arent. All the ways it could have been, but isnt."
WvW in its current state, would be like the PvE game, without the living world events, without content updates, without changes to dungeons to improve them, etc etc. If all the elements of Gw2 (wvw, spvp, pve, etc) are what make up the complete game, then why do only some of those elements ever seem to meet their potential, where as others seem to get barely more than the leftovers thrown on the floor (ie: WvW).
Its not about making WvW its own complete game, its about focusing on the different playstyles advertised with this game equally, and if you work out the left arm, you should also work out the right, else you end up like that silly man in that Shyamalan movie.
