They’ve yet to go down in rank yet, can anyone explain why?

Because of the server rating. Maguuma isn’t losing enough rating to drop several tiers, the server will pass through all possible tiers until Glicko stabilize. The current rating puts Yak’s Bend at position of number 6 and Maguuma 7, in other words if wasn’t for the tourney, YB would go up to tier 2 and Mag drop to tier 3. However even if Mag don’t have the population to keep up on tier 3 or 4, still might take several weeks before the server drops even further.

Mag needs to keep scoring negatively, by at least -20k, on the next match up, assuming DB don’t lose ranting as well, in order to swap ranks between them.

So braces yourselves and try to enjoy a bit the drop race, which I heard can be quite painful.

You lose glicko points based on how badly you got beat by your opponents factoring your opponent’s glicko rating. The smaller the difference in glicko rating the less points transferred. Couple in the fact that Mag is locked in Gold, it may take a while.

Last season a certain server with bronze level player participation got stuck in silver for more than 3 months as it did not fall in glicko rating fast enough due to its formerly high rating despite its actual lack of WvW participation at the time.

Yeah, as Jeff says you’re currently locked into Gold anyway. You won’t be able to escape the curbstomping (my sympathies) for another 2 weeks at least.

Glicko difference alone is not the important note. It is glicko difference used as a metric for prediction of what the score difference should be.

In the case of TC vs FA vs Mag, Maguuma is scoring very closely to what glicko predicts: that is, Maguuma is losing badly, as it should be.

The wide glicko rank difference between TC and Mag is actually preventing Mag from losing many rank points in that match.

A (modified version of a) system designed to rate competitive chess players is what they use to determine WvWvW rank.

Chess players generally don’t get substantially worse at the game.

Servers losing population is like the chess player becoming massively stupider. The system wasn’t designed to handle this sort of thing.

Maguuma is currently expected to do very badly in it’s matchup as far as the math is concerned. It has to do even worse than expected to lose any rating. Meanwhile, their opponents need to absolutely crush them to avoid losing rating themselves.

Also: seasons. Can’t drop brackets until that’s over.

Too late for that. There in season play has them already rated above maguuma. No matter how hard they may try now, their hands are tied.

They’ll tank and fairweather away from post-season until they’re back in tier 3. Then DB will do the same.

We can’t speak for FA, but I know we on SoS have no intent of focusing down anyone who comes up.

We did talk with FA about focusing YB, but they have backed off on that so we’ll be focusing FA instead to allow YB to beat FA; and hopefully we can have FA swap with CD and have a good ol’ time in T2 without fairweathers and complainers.

SoS is not capable of focusing FA. FA annihilates SoS during our primetime when you have no one on, and you guys annihilate us during your primetime when no one is on (although for some reason your OX crew has been slacking lately, did you lose some guilds or something?)

Silly comments aside, I actually think Mag is going to settle nicely in to T4 or possibly even the bottom of T3. I thought they were completely dead, but occasionally they put out a sizable force. I think the bulk of their militia is just tired of being in gold league and stopped regularly playing until they drop.

If they thought it was bad this week with FA and TC, wait till they face BG and JQ in subsequent weeks…

Welcome to the same situation SOR was in after the end of Season 1. You’ll basically have to wait out the season until your rank can drop again.

Exactly, we have a core group of veterans on the server who have played for a very long time in a 2nd to 3rd place position and learned a long time ago that WvWvW matches are the best when there is a good mix of fights, ppt, and roaming/havoc. The “play for fights” style originated on FA. It was brought to SoS and many other servers originally by Fort Aspenwood players transferring.

But I digress…
Maguuma wasn’t able to roll a T3 match pre-season so they’re stuck in T2 due to the tournament league divisions. It sucks not only for them, but also for servers playing against them. It messes with the 3-way match-up.

You cannot speak for your entire server. When Mag lost most of its GvG groups, SoS proceeded to WP their keep and camp them at the legendaries. SoS is chocked full of wall warriors that will take advantage of their strong non-NA prime times to PvDoor a map. SoS as a server like most servers will take the fastest path to easy wins for better or worse. The only exception I saw of this was when the GvG scene was in full swing in T2. That was a glorious time for WvW and some of the best fighting since I started playing this game at release.

IMO, to conspire with FA to hammer a less populated server is pretty despicable (which would be shocking to me since FA is a fight driven server in my experience) . If there is a team up, 2nd and 3rd should always be incentivized to go after the 1st place server when a match starts getting out of hand.

The GTFO will be primarily due to the fact that SoS and FA less-public voices tend to prefer an opponent that: A ) plays the way tier 2 has done historically; B ) wants to be in tier 2 with the other two servers.

YB and DB fulfill neither of those, and tier 2 won’t settle until something gives.

FA doesn’t force anyone to play how t2 “was”
That was mag and SoS. But whoever moves into t2 will just be bored cause SoS night capping and no na.

Both YB and DB zergs will get destroyed by FA (and SoS out of NA Prime). I swear standing in a T3 zerg I am surrounded by 25% up levels, 25% rangers, 25% crappy builds and the remaining are decent but don’t how to stack/push with a commander. Fine people and certainly some solid roamers but T2 large group play is on another level. I think all that GvG and open field fighting strengthened most players in that tier at least for the GvG scene veterans.
