wondering...
It doesn’t have anything with purchasing HoT.
Anet simply changed their development of combat.
Instead of “skill, experience and knowledge” will give you an advantage which was previously is simply brought to the level of “passive will do everything for you”.
We’re going back from Action combat to Target Combat, where passives are the so called “Jack of all Trades”.
All you’ll have to do is take 2 steps on the right or left.

I say give it time.
I roamed a lot this weekend and fought a lot of these new professions. Didn’t die to any of them while I was solo roaming. People are still new to them both playing and fighting so you don’t know all the animations just yet to get off that needed dodge when you see a big hit coming. Once you fight and learn some of the moves they will be easier to counter if you are having a problem against them now..
Out of all the ones I fought only reaper kept me on my toes. Rest were just spamming skills and not doing much but its all new and when they actually learn them better it might be a different story.
I tried each of them out but I really think I will be sticking to my non-elite toons in wvw.. They just didn’t do it for me outside of running in a zerg but to me that’s just a spam fest of skills so I don’t really zerg much anymore..
If we just give everyone a bunch of cc I don’t see what could go wrong…
Melanessa-Necromancer Cymaniel-Scrapper
Minikata-Guardian Shadyne-Elementalist -FA-
I have both killed and been killed by all of the elite specs during the beta.
Balance is always an ongoing thing, but as far as I can tell, players that are better than me are still better than me and wrecking me easily. Players that are worse than me are still worse than me and I’m still wrecking them easily.

I would bet the majority of players feel the same way you and the OP feel.
Wrecked by revenants without being able to find those builds anywhere is more than frustrating when the Ranger traitline also being given out does squat for damage when roaming and that’s what 80% of us do, very, very alone.
If this thread is locked, the devs need to be here, not the moderators.
I have already said in another thread the Ranger has real problems going 1v1 in WvW.
It would probably be better if the new masteries were be excluded from WvW. Otherwise it will be a pay to win mechanic, penalizing those who don’t buy the expansion and upgrade.

Gw2 is on the wrong path for a long time already.
Devs do not communicate with playerbase.
Balance team doesn’t invite regular players to test skills, passives and other abilities to find synergy and balance builds in as close to 1:1 Ratio as possible.
No, it’s better to throw a meat, which turns out to be bad and keep fixing it for next months w/o care for playerbase opinion and experienced player advises.
And it’s not like Devs and balance team are beyond a really casual PvE themed player.

Shortbow is nice in 1v1, but it’s a Condition weapon and Longbow is viable on good distances.
Regarding p2w.
No, it won’t be.
Game is F2P, and you can play it for free and you have no right to complain.
But, here’s a big plus to situation.
Anet has already got used to F2P theme, which basically means, no giving a single pig about community and playerbase, so they can ignore us all whenever we’re not happy with whatever they throw at us.
They have trained well for past months at ignoring us – true F2P hype.
Amazing~
Meh I think ANet screwed up calling them “elite” specs.
Truly they aren’t elite, but they are different, and will take time both to master, and to find out their weaknesses.
