wvw almost unplayable with lag
Stop stacking T1. Solved.
Yeah, ever since the patch it’s been kitten near unplayable. I set ALL of my graphics settings to their lowest, which I’ve never had to do in ANY MMO, and it dos’nt help.
They reduced the caps in February which had a very negative impact on queue times while having no noticeable improvement on skill lag (according to Mike Ferguson). They know there’s a problem, but I’m not sure they know exactly what is causing it.
My gut still tells me it has something to do with the guesting feature implementation, a suspicion I have based solely on when it went in and when skill lag started to be reported.

That’s also the exact time transfer guilds stacked t1 before free transfers ended.

True, but T1 had 4 hour queues for large amounts of the day during the first month following launch. Where was the skill lag then?

Yesterday, 120 players at hills, JQ vs BG. Framerate took a big hit. Lag wasnt that bad as before. Now only about a 600ms delay instead of a 10sec delay.
during ZvZ fight, i usually can’t even pick my loot…. when i died i couldn’t even respawn until after a minute or two…

the difference is people didn’t run turtled up in super mega zergs like they do now.
People have been doing that for 6 months now.
Sounds bad. I’ve still NEVER experienced lag in T4/3 zerg v zerg (Maguuma). Don’t know what’s up with servers in T1/2 or wherever it’s happening…
Dunno what the exact reason is (probably a combination of many things), but it has definitely been getting a lot worse lately.
Few days ago I was solo’ing a supply camp on my Ele, and a single defender appeared. I started fighting him in the midst of the camp b/c he wasn’t putting out too much damage so I was confident I could take him down while doing the camp. All of a sudden I got MASSIVE skill lag, had to abandon my cap attempt and make an escape and almost even died because that player and half a supply camp worth of NPCs were whacking away at me and I wasn’t even able to use my freakin heal. Turns out two massive zergs ran into each other at a tower on pretty much the other end of the map, and that most likely caused skill lags all over the entire borderland.
Yesterday evening I felt like mindless zerging, so I joined up with my servers blob of death and switched my daggers for a staff. As we attacked a keep & got jumped by loads of enemies our commander was screaming for heals & waters fields, and believe me, I really wanted to put that stuff down but couldn’t even attune to water. So I stood there stuck in air attunement and felt pretty useless tossing around my auto-attack since I had already blown my static field (IIRC it finally went off on the like 15th attempt). There’s only word to describe that situation really: Unplayable.
Dunno if ArenaNet is hoping for this problem to fix itself (as in: WvW unplayable → people quit → server load reduced → WvW playable again), but I’d really prefer if they would just get their act together and fix this kitten. Habib Loew getting moved away from the WvW stuff really doesn’t seem they consider that option tho .
And there is only one thing we say to Death: ‘Not today’.
ANet has already stated the skill lag is due to their servers maxing out on CPU usage. As you will have the same physical server handling all the battles on a single borderlands, a big clash anywhere on the same map will mean the same lag for everyone on that map. Your own computer specs / internet will not really matter for this.
A server basically has two bottlenecks when it comes to performance: bandwidth and CPU usage. Culling was taking care of the bandwidth issues that they have now fixed (so they removed culling). The massive blobs cause a huge strain on the server’s CPU as the server needs to calculate who and what all the skills affect, which probably isn’t very easy to solve.
It could of course be a sort of deadlocking issue, but I can imagine it will take some work getting this fixed. So in the meantime pray your server mates and enemies stop blobbing up as this affects all the smaller roaming groups as well. In a blob you can usually get away with just spamming your ‘1’ key (which tends to still work during skill lag) but when you’re up against superior numbers you need every skill available to you to survive.
I actually noticed the direction of your dodge is also ‘bugged’ during a skill lag period. Imagine my surprise when I’m retreating backwards shooting at the group of enemies before me, using the occasional dodge backwards to throw up some heals on my allies to suddenly find myself dodging forwards right into the big group of enemies I’m busy trying to avoid… Found that even worse than waiting half a minute for my heal and stability to go up.

i’m running 25 mb/s down and 12 mb/s up, have a 2.8 ghz processor (i know it’s not the fastest, but still – it handled Aion on max settings in their global wvw just fine), video card: EVGA SSC 02G-P4-3653-KR GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
8 gb of ram
and am running windows 7….
when i auto-detect settings, most of mine are detected at max (high) level…
BUT, even in WVW, on BEST PERFORMANCE, i drop down to 6 fps easily even if it’s not a big zerg. Please get better dedicated servers…we’re paying good money for this game (assuming most people are like me and have purchased several gems with real cash – i’m at about $150 so far).
I don’t know if NA tier 1 servers have noticed, but the same thing is constantly happening in SOR borderlands. But its not as noticeable, unless your going around killing yaks. Because the yaks aren’t actually where they appear, which only happens when there is skill lag. Its constantly like this even with no fights going on. The lag we are experiencing is new.
Not sure it is a t1 problem only. Been away a month come back to t7 only to find it takes 1-2 seconds for most button pushes to even register in big fights. While it isn’t as bad as a skill never going off, it is bad enough to make me hang it up again for awhile.

Dude, low fps is not a problem with Anets servers, that is a totally different problem routed deeper in the core of how the game is designed.
isnt my computer, been playing fine until anet updated the game for better latency in the last patch
now its unplayable
getting random DC in wvw since the patch also
basically ruined it for me in a single (prolly barely tested) update
