So i have been thinking a lot about wvw and how it could be changed and i came up with something. some will like other will hate it and probably none of it will get used by anet :P
THE PLAN:
The main thing i would do i instead of having 4 maps i would have one super sized map. I would put EB in the center and then have the borderlands branch off from there with 2-3 paths between EB and each homeland. That is the basis for my whole concept. With a cap of 500 per server things could get crazy.
Now some of u are saying “this will just become more of a zerg fest”. Well if left to just putting all 4 maps together u would be right. so lets look at options to change that.
CHANGES:
some mechanics would have to be changed. One would be that you couldn’t build a way point any further than SMC in EB. This will make it much more difficult to push someone else lands. Another would be to give a team a stat bonus in it own lands depending on how much of it they don’t own.
So now things will get tricky with what options would be best so i will have multiple branches.
1. Impassable forts or dependable choke points
On the paths to each of the borderlands there would be either a fort that MUST be taken for an attacker to past on to the home lands or a choke point that can be heavily defended. I like the fort idea better as it give the attackers a base of operation that is the most important point for the attack to succeed. Now there would be places that the home world could always pass through now matter who controlled the forts. Something like what is in SMC walls. These would not grant access to the forts, just EB.
So now we need a way to keep people from just sitting in thier homelands and never attacking. This can be done to ways. Either make it so it doesn’t matter what rank the server is in the tier or make the EB points worth more. Or perhaps even a combination of the 2.
Ok so now people have incentive to attack but what makes them have to even worry about their home land? Why not just keep 30 people at each fort or choke point to keep everyone out. This could be done in multiple ways but the best way i can think of is to have a NPC controlled “4th server”. They will have no homeland but instead will have basses that can be neutralized for a time. These NPCs basses will send attack waves that can become stronger based on the tier. The lowest tier could have nothing more than 5-8 npcs that have the ability to take only unupgraded and undefended supply camps all the way to the top tier that can have the ability to send waves 20-30 veterans with champions that can build siege and take and defend forts and even keeps. There would be 2 or 3 npc basses to deal with. 2 would be in place of the skrits and centaurs, and the 3rd if it were there could be in the center below the south supply camp. These npcs would not attack if an invading force had at least 25 points in a borderland (5 camps/2 forts 1 camp/1 keeps). Also the npcs would stop attacking if they aquired a certain amount of point value of their own(this amount would vary with tier form perhaps only 10 to as much as 50. The npcs would not abandon what they had but would simply launch now more attacks once the point value had been reached until the value dropped below the threshold. This means that on the lower tiers it would take little to nothing to defend the homelands but the top tiers would have to leave a good chuck behind to deal with the npcs.
or the other option
2. extra maps that r 1v1 or 1v1v1
this option give a lot to the imagination so i will just focus on what i think would work. Add 3 extra 1v1 maps that can either be separate maps all together or added into the already enormous one (they would sit around the edge of EB between the homelands). If u added them to get her they would not be truly 1v1 but it would be difficult for the 3rd team to gain groud there as it would be far from their lands. Each of these maps would have 3 paths into them that r guarded but not completely block by a fort (one path form each borderland on either side and one form EB). In the middle of each of these would be a keep and it would aslo contain one supply camp. If that map was separate all together it would have 1 keep 4 fort and 2 camps. The cap could 50 or so per team. As i said u could also make more 1v1v1 maps too and they would have to be separate.
Perhaps a even more intriguing idea is that u could put these both together making for what couple be some of the most epic showdowns ever.
So there it is , wvw if i was in charge. If u have other ideas it would be awesome to hear them. Who know maybe anet will read someones post and say “hey that’s a great idea”
