I got 5 Gibbering Skulls from...
They randomly drop in the Lab. I got one as well, not sure from what though.
Wow, consider yourself lucky. I farmed that kitten lab all weekend and never saw a single one of those mats drop. my hand is still cramped from all of the button spamming, hours and hours… I’ve managed to put together a couple cobs but that’s it. I am seriously thinking that i am going to lose my mind, or end up with repetitive motion damage long before i am able to acquire the mats for this recipe!
Well lucky you.

Please don’t validate a.net’s idea that all we want to do is farm little stupid things all day and night.
TIA!
These things suck. Requires too much effort and cost to obtain. All of the higher grade Halloween item do. I am assuming this is an attempt to clean out the TP of these items but this isn’t a good way to do this. As the prices goes up people stop buying or cant afford. And things like the 20 slot bag are ridiculous. it would cost like 70 gold or something to buy all the mats needed as I will never farm 15,000 candy corns and they don’t drop enough! I can make a 20 slot bag for a little over 10 gold or buy one for like 12. So for the same amount of money I can almost deck out a entire character in 20 slot bags. Very bad design!

Agreed. There is no way to farm enough mats for any of the recipes.
Perhaps this is a way to get more wealthy types to spread the wealth?

Nope I gave up after a few days. Did the meta, can’t get into wvw, so I just went back to LoL. Managed to get a 6300 point champ so I consider it a far more rewarding weekend than I would have spent on here.
I suspect there are three factors behind the crazy-high requirements for the Halloween items:
1. ANet wants to use them to soak up oversupply of festive mats. For whatever reason, it seems they do not want a repeat of what happened after the last Halloween/Dragon Bash where there were millions of Candy Corn/Zhaitaffy sitting on the TP for 1c above vendor price. Having these super expensive high-end mats means there will probably be players throughout the year buying the lower-tier maps to upgrade them.
2. They want to “spread the wealth”. The fact that these upgraded mats drop rarely from mobs confirms it in my eyes; otherwise, it would just be a case of the super-wealthy hoarding up lots of the lower mats. Since they drop randomly from mobs, the TP barons can’t control the supply and it helps keep the price for them relatively low (an average of about 5g, it seems). This makes the final Halloween crafted weapons cost about 100g – 200g; pricey, but still within an acceptable price range for luxury goods.
3. They want to control inflation. As with just about everything else in the game, anything that goes through the TP gets 15% of the transaction’s gold sucked out. A LOT of money is coming into the game via things like the Gauntlet farm, Frostgorge Champ train farm, and now the Labyrinth farm, and ANet needs to increase the transactions going through the TP to ensure that wealth generation doesn’t overpower the economy.
The labyrinth farm seems a bit less lucrative than the FG champ farm. I wonder if it’s mere existence lessens the amount of gold influx going into the market by bleeding off champ farmers.
If they were smart, they would put a ton of interesting items for sale that cost 1 – 10 cobs at the vendor. These are far more realistically achieved and more people would actually be spending candy corn instead of hoarding or selling. If no one actually gets to spend all the corn they farm, then ANET is actually exacerbating the problem causing a glut of mats in the economy because people will either be sitting on thousands after the event or putting it back up on the TP. Making the only things that take corn out of the economy cost 15k + mats is not a smart move.
