I REALLY like this update. The new map is beautiful, the new soundtrack is great, listening the NPCs singing with the synched song in the background is amazing, and the search for the crystals is very fun. The common dialogues and all the talk about Glint are very nice.
Still, there is one small thing annoying me. Considering that:
…Acquiring the recipes is annoying. We have relatively little time, it’s a gamble which more often than not gives unwanted results (and the drop rate of desired items only decreases the more recipes you have unlocked), and it’s more of the RNG that is so common in GW2.
We can buy the recipes from the Trading Post, sure, but the way we acquire the recipes isn’t exactly good. I wish we had a less annoying and more reliable system in place.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but all you need to know are the inscription, the insignia, and the jewel. From there you discover the actual armor/weapon/trinket recipe, right?
And if that’s true, you only need to buy 3 from the TP, and last I checked they’re pretty cheap.

No, it’s different from normal crafting. You need to use recipes to unlock everything. Which means, you need a light armor coat recipe to unlock the option to craft that, you need a greatsword recipe to craft the greatsword, and so on.
Hence the need for 40+ recipes if you want to craft everything, and to deal with 40+ random possibilities if you want the recipe for a specific item.
Oh. Well I guess I’ll be selling my quartz instead of keeping it for myself then.
The recipes are still pretty cheap on the AH I made sure to get 1 of each and learn it just in case 1 day I wanted to make it. Told my husband to do the same.
I thought the insignia/inscription/jewel worked like other recipes. Say you want to make a celestial weapon. You craft the celestial inscription, then use it like a normal inscription.
Or are you saying you need the inscription recipe and the specific weapon recipe in order to craft the weapon?
Or are you saying you need the inscription recipe and the specific weapon recipe in order to craft the weapon?
That. You need two recipes for each item – one for the inscription/insignia/jewel (and those are rather common) and another for the item itself (the armor piece, weapon or piece of jewelry).
I would feel bad for someone who gets only the insignia/inscription/jewel recipe now and tries to craft an item only after the event has ended.

That’s my plan too. I’m waiting for prices to fall a bit more before buying. They’ve been dropping slowly but steadily since release.
