Hats off, ArenaNet

Given that it’s still a bit away and they’ve already generated this much forum activity yeah, I think it’s going to be a hit. That said I doubt I’ll personally do half of the upcoming content since it seems more PvP / survival focused this time (both of which I dislike) but that doesn’t mean it won’t be good.
PS – don’t vote for Evon. :P
This patch sounds very promising. Letting the players vote for new story paths and content, even though it is only through fractals was an excellent way to let people get more involved. Regardless of who wins, even temporary discounts are always welcome.
Fall of Abbadon is just one dungeon.
Thaumanova Reactor could have unknown effects that affect things outside the fractal. The possibilities are endless!
The ability to make a permanent change in the game’s story and content is beyond cool. I’m very excited to see how it turns out.
The ability to make a permanent change by actually playing the game would have been better IMO. Where’s the fun in casting votes? Why aren’t we choosing our destiny by actually making choices in big scale events?

Other way round. Thaumanova Reactor is just… a reactor. Fall of Abaddon is the most central piece of lore ever. Unless you think Tyria would be better off without magic, in which case it’s still interesting to know why he did what he did.

This is why he did what he did.
“One of the Gods, Abaddon, introduced the most influential creation in all of Tyria: magic. Its purpose was to make the lives of all intellectual races easier, but it soon became used as weapons and caused inter-racial wars throughout the world.
By the year 1 BE, when magic was given, Humans occupied lands throughout the world and most of the continent of Tyria. Unlike modern times with individual countries, all the Humans of Tyria were ruled by the original noble ruler of all lands, King Doric. It was he who traveled from Ascalon to Arah and pleaded before Dwayna, Balthazar, and Melandru with the hope of having the gift-turned-curse removed and the bloodshed stopped. The Gods agreed and created the bloodstones which were separated into five pieces. Four of the stones were linked to the four schools of magic – Preservation, Aggression, Destruction, and Denial – the fifth becoming the keystone required to connect them, ultimately sealed using King Doric’s own blood. The bloodstones prevent any one individual from harnessing all four schools of magic. Finally, the five stones were placed in the volcano known as Abaddon’s Mouth – the largest volcano on the Ring of Fire Island Chain.
However, the creation of the bloodstones did not go unhindered, for Abaddon, the God who gave out magic too freely, disagreed with limiting the gift and as such rebelled against the other Gods. His rebellion cost him greatly though, for while he was able to defeat two Gods at once, he was no match for all five Gods, and for his rebellion Abaddon was imprisoned within the Realm of Torment. The blow that defeated Abaddon was so powerful that it weakened the barrier between Tyria and Abaddon’s realm and caused the creation of the Desolation and Crystal Desert. Shortly after Abaddon’s imprisonment and the bloodstones’ creation, the Gods left Tyria forever, no longer walking with man, but not forgetting Tyria for they still watch over the world.
This event would become known as the Exodus of the Gods and later mark the year 0 for the commonly used Mouvelian calendar. For a time, all was good and the world was finally at peace once again. Peace, however, can always come to an end: the Humans prospered over the next hundred years until Abaddon’s Mouth erupted, scattering the five bloodstones across Tyria. Though the bloodstones have never been reunited, their magic seeped into the land and air and greed sprouted once again in the hearts of man, giving rise to new wars, this time amongst the humans themselves."
There are plenty of other events that are rather central to the plot’s lore, we still don’t know where they came from, how the previous races survived the assault from the elder dragons of the past as well as what became of the several races that just up and left, and to where.
Also odd plot hole, if the dragons consume magic, and the human gods brought magic to Tyria, did the dragons consume other means of sustenance or was magic in Tyria prior but then scrapped? Elder Dragons feed on magic, so the humans are to blame for all our problems.
Thanks guys.

Actually, the Thaumanova Reactor is the reason for the steam creatures (which are created by the Asura protagonists in an alternate universe where they are antagonists because they were led by Teyo, iirc). It was also disrupted by Destroyers, supposedly, and not the Inquest, which means it could potentially mean that Primordus is going to be seen soon (or even seen in the fractal itself).
With that said, it can just end up being a 5man Great Destroyer fight.
However, the Fall of Abbadon will most likely not place the players as the Human Gods, and simply as foot-soldiers who fight off Abbadon’s minions (which would, at the time, simply be elementals and other humans) and then fight one of his champions at the end, while the actual gods are fighting Abbadon.
Also wanted to say how much I loved the smear ads for each candidate. Awesome to the max.

None of this comes from the horse’s mouth, and the instances where the history of Tyria has turned out to be wrong are plentiful. If Abaddon did indeed gift magic as a boon to the races of Tyria, why didn’t he get on board with the idea to stop the bloodshed he inadvertently caused? Abaddon’s teachings are pretty straightforward: “Act with magic, act within reason, act without mercy”. There’s no mercy in his actions to speak of. Plenty of magic to go around. What is the reason?

I think he hated his gift being restricted. There’s probably a really big reason, but we’re not privy to it.
Also we’d be fighting humans, not Margonites (although they could be humans called Margonites) as they were humans before he, Abbadon, was cast into the Realm of Torment (with them).
Heck, we could even be fighting the Margonites as they are destroying some of the statues of the other gods.
OR inversely, we could be the Margonites as we destroy the temples of the other gods.

Now that would be cool. Fighting on the losing side would be an interesting fractal. Might win a battle, but you know they lost the war. Heck, you could make it appear we’ve won, and at the end, the god’s themselves stride in as we have to jet out of there before being demolished.
This thread has already begun wandering off-topic…..lets get back to the point at hand….
‘ability to make a permanent change’
What GW2 game have you been playing? It’s removed after the event.
The fractal chosen will be a permanent addition to fotm.
The fractal chosen will be a permanent addition to fotm.
Then people will vote for whichever has the fastest cleartime. Lore doesn’t mean junk after the first time through.
This is why he did what he did.
-Wall O ’Lore-
While this explains what he did, this doesn’t explain why he was so against limiting the magic he gave away. It’s also inaccurate in some points, such as the gods creating the bloodstone (it was around before they came), so we don’t know how accurate it is.
Anyway, I do like the idea of players influencing the path of the game, and I hope anet decides to expand on this type of player influence as the game goes on.
Also, I don’t think we’re voting, but rather supporting the candidate by gathering some sort of item for him/her.
Also Charak, we won’t know which has the fastest clear time since it’s not being made until we decide on it.

Good luck figuring out how difficult 2 fractals which haven’t even begun being built are.
