IMO the recent minigames are bad

Noone likes minigames with too many crowd control skills, were you get stunned and knocked around all the time.

Personal opinions are all great but that’s all that is; your personal opinion.
It is so grossly your personal opinion that you stated that you enjoyed sanctum sprint, another mini game just like any other mini game – so your issue isn’t even with mini games, it’s with mini games you don’t like.
I personally hated crab toss, and aspect arena. Yet I loved sanctum sprint and southsun survival.
I would be happy if they were just coded correctly. But I have horrible lags in all things that use aspect skills. Sanctum sprint, arena and the only way I could get all those crystals done was by staying up until 4 am so nobody was in labyrinthe cliffs anymore, using those skills. As soon as someone uses them → timeouts → lags, resulting often in 7:11 error msg.
You see someone just pop up dead in front of you in arena? Thats the reason.

The topic should have ended right here, I’m loving survival myself, yet to try arena though.
Def subjective. Southsun survival is the best minigame yet IMO. I just wish it was permanent with leaderboards.
I personally loathe these minigames (like all of em), it really annoys me i need to do em so frickin many times if i want to get the achievements or some skin. Sure i can enjoy em for 3 maybe 5 runs, after that they just bore me to death. And then it becomes a grind, and i dont really like grinding.
Just glad i dont have an OCD for achivements.
I bet Xilo is one of those that gathers as many supplies as he can, then he just goes and hides…. because yeah, saw those a lot today.
Haven’t tried Southsun Survival yet, but Aspect Arena is a frustrating mess. Mostly because of the Crystal Breaker achievement. If you’re up against a good team, you won’t kill the carrier. If you’re up against a poor team, they won’t even get the crystals in the first place. I can’t wait to be done with that achievement so that game can die in neglect as it deserves.
At least in the Sanctum Sprint you had mostly yourself to rely on.

southsun survival will be permanent.
it will be on a weekly rotation with southsun crab toss.
i.e.
week 1 – crab toss
week 2 – survival
week 3 – crab toss
week 4 – survival
…
and so on.
Happy Southsun Survival! And may the odds be ever in your favor!

and hide in places where the participants (both dead and alive) will not find u.
because that is the most effective way to be the last man standing.
if you kill off too many survivors too early on, they will actually have a very good chance of collecting 10 revenge notes to summon a karka to kill you.
believe me, they will.
because they can.
Actually Yasi Im yet to win a kitten game as #1. Had #2 a couple times. Its challenging, and gives me a feeling of some older hardcore games Ive played. Although your really* not losing anything when you get looted… its still great fun killing someone and taking all their possessions.
I just dont like the Karkas.. although I understand why they are in place.
On another note the reward system for this mini game is great. If only they implemented the same one into sPvP it would get alot more players
Challenging O_O That minigame is everything, but not at all challenging. You even can remember spawn points of food so you wont trigger a trap. There is absolutely nothing challenging about it. It might be fun if it were faster… and shorter… with less grind. But as it is, it is just boring with mistform actually being the only funny thing about it.

Again that is where opinion comes in. I agree on the spawn stuff. When I talk about challenge it has to do more with the unpredictability of players. I.E. I have like 5% health left and I see someone wind up for a shot.. and im point blank range so cant wait for the arrow.. therefore I dodge logically thinking it would be a #1 shot to kill me… instead it was a #4 and I dodge.. then die.
I think they take getting used to and learning somewhat to make them enjoyable. I quite disliked the Aspect Arena at first, but now its not so bad. I had mixed feelings about the Southsun Survival, but it grew on me as well (not sure if it grew on me enought to get 2500 pts in it, but yeah). Same goes with the Sanctum Sprint, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it at first, but then it turned into great fun.
I think adding so many achievements and making a majority of an event minigame based can kill the mini-game for a lot of people. Instead of people just playing for fun they are playing for other means which keeps tension and emotions high.
They both have a lot of potentials and are already quite fun, but both need serious balancing.
Ghosts as a whole are overpowered in Southsun survival, being able to place invisible traps that torment is kinda ridiculous, it makes it so ghosts decide who wins and not raw skill. Karkas are another different beast, but should be dealt with too (Easy, remove their normal attack, leave their aoe attack only, it’s dodgeable and fairplay)
Aspect Arena really really favors the Air Aspect at the moment. They get an incredible knockdown that can send you meters away, and can ever push you OVER fences and down a cliff. Their mist form has a ridiculously low CD (it’s shorter than Lightning’s 2, which is kinda dumb) and it gives a crazy speed boost. It makes it almost impossible to kill a Air Aspect Crystal Bearer solo unless he’s bad or you get lucky. Can’t trap them with Electrical Storm, can’t push them back with Wind 2, Can’t pull them with Black Hole. Mist Form bypasses all of that. Sun Aspect can dodge all of it too with Bastion but it doesn’t make them invincible nor give them a speed boost. Lightning got well, a stun, which is fine.
So yeah, lots of potential, but lots of balancing to do too.

I will agree with this.
I almost prefer being a ghost in the survival game just because a) you are unkillable b) can still get points (kills, and scavenging orbs) c) you get to summon a karka; compared to being a regular survivor.

Aspect is just plain bad. I was constantly getting knocked around because the animations for the wind ups were not playing for me.
Aspect Arena is a lot of fun – mainly beause it is a team game and I prefer team stuff(of course… otherwise I would not play a MMORPG). Yeah – as mentioned at some other thread: Wind Aspect is pretty strong… I’m only using that… saw a few others also using Lightning to move fast away after getting the Crystal and Fire(Sun) seems pretty useless.
But that is not a problem… just everyone can use Air then it’s balanced ha ha.
Southsun Survival I tried a bit… but this seems boring. If you die early you can only wait for ages(cause the match seems to take long). Doing stuff while in that mist form is boring… cause you already “lost” and want the next match. And while alive looking for all the rations and arrows and stuff… not that much interesting.
What I don’t understand: Why do both – Ellen Kiel and Evon Gnashblade – want to bring this in their mini game rotation?
Yes… I understand we already have Sanctum Sprint with Aspects stuff… so maybe that’s why ANet does not want to bring also the Aspect Arena.
But then again… you could say the same for Crab Toss – a Free for All PvP activity… we would not need Southsun Survival then.
I think Ellen Kiel shout only promise Aspect Arena and Gnashblade should promise to return the Southsun Survival.
Otherwise it would not make sense… or both. Cause Aspect Arena is really good. If they want to remove one of the others then Crab Toss… nobody likes that(then we still would have the Survival that apparently a lot of people liked).
People don’t like a games, where never wins.
Well, the OP wrote IMO in the thread’s title.
Anyway, until now I absolutely love southsun survival. I haven’t tried the aspect arena yet, but that will follow later.
But I agree on the subject of ghost players being too powerful. In the later game when there are around 4 players left, one is bound to have at least 3 ghosts stalking one. And then getting revenge points everytime one collects supplies…using traps everywhere. Ghosts apparently kill more players than the players themselves.
I once killed 3 players with a Karka at the same time…bad me
I wouldn’t mind if the devs increased the revenge points required for activating the ghost skills.
My main issue with the survival mini-game are the ghosts, they just make you not want to move. You’re bound to walk over a disarm trap, fall and have them spawn a karka on you. I’d definitely be more aggressive if I didn’t have to fear moving in general. Other than that I do enjoy the mini-game, although I think they could get away with speeding up the hunger debuff.

Quoted for truth. Very well said.
@OP, I enjoy these far more than the sanctum sprint, crabtoss, etc.
The southsun survival event is a blast, once you get a grasp on how it works.

Most of the time the ghosts I’ve been up against have been spamming me with karkas and they’re actually fairly easy to survive.. however in 1 round the ghosts managed to shut down 3 of the hubs with misc. goods using karkas and that was a really interesting game to play
And to whomever said the match is slow to play, well not really, if you end up with 2-3 of those people who just rush to a far corner with 9 rations and camp until everyone else starves then yes, you’re in for atleast a 10min game.
Ive played 15 games, every single one of these took forever because of exactly this. I tried the “die first and kill campers with karkas tactic”… got even a few 2nd place for it… but that’s just meh.
Tried staying alive and sniper campers… got first place for it but still took me forever to find last guy. Even though I had 5 ghosts searching with me.
Wasted over two hours on those 15 games. Had absolutely no fun at all. Got Desert Rose, sold it. The only reason for me to keep on spending time there would be the 2,500 points achievement and you can bet that I will do absolute minimum to get this done. Translation: die fast, spawn 2-3 karkas, and do something interesting while akitteng.
Forcing people to play a minigame they dont like for achievements is bad enough. Forcing them to spend DAYS playing this minigame, that’s just ridiculous.
Set achievement to 1,000 points. It still is a grind, but it can be done in the same amount of time needed to get other minigame achievements in the past.
I think the scoring needs to be adjust a bit for the Survival game. I made to the final 2 three times and my name never even made the top 10?! I did not kill alot, mostly gather, but I always had at least 1 kill and one 1 trap set off. Shouldn’t I get in the top 5 for making it to the final 2?
Does anyone have a better break down of the scoring system? Link?
IMO, the only thing these mini games needs is to stop letting people join matches that are already over (in survival if you get put in a game already in progress you start off as a ghost and just get to…what? punish people for starting the game without you?)

You don’t need to do any of the PvP minigames to get the meta. And if you don’t “need” the achievement points like you claim then there is no reason for you to ever participate.
This right here is the most important thing. No one who doesn’t enjoy them needs to EVER participate in them. I have no enjoyed the PvP minigames for a while. I had fun in Halloween, and I liked the Wintersday ones that weren’t competative, but the rest I have found unpleasant so I just avoid them. I don’t feel the need to say, “I don’t like them so no one should ever be subjected to them,” though, I simply don’t play them, and it has not interfered with my getting any of the special rewards in any of the events.

Meta → wayne. Achievement points not. So actually, you have to do that, or miss out on achievement points which is a bad idea considering those are limited.

you get to one shot others too so it is fair game.
