Not quite sure how to respond to this. Farmers are playing the game how they want to play. When it comes to an event like this. If they aren’t afk’ing at a WP then they are HELPING YOU get your rewards too. Why do you care so much if they are just trying to make gold, isn’t that what you are trying to do with this event as well?

I only agree in so far as there should be more incentive to fulfilling the meta event.

At least during the invasion farming was completing the meta event. In this case the meta event is entirely removed from the things actually occurring in the zone. People like to claim that they get as many bags out in the corners of the zone saving Civs as those farming huge mobs but it’s just not true.

There should be some value in saving Civs, like every Civ that you personally had a hand in saving, encouraging or ressing, gets you a bag when they despawn.

Every single event equals ten citizens saved. Not to mention path cleared for the rallied citizens to be able to reach the door (unless you’re personally escorting them) So if you want to set the minimum to spite other people it will backfire on you. Now peace. If you want save citizens, if you want farm. I did not find LA to be profitable almost at all (with farming all I got was around 1G an hour) so decided to instead run dungeons, fractals and events like I always done.

This thread is funny. TC, yes they can get bags from afking…but they’d get MORE if they actually saved civilians, did events, etc. They’re afking for 45 minutes to get what you can almost triple if you actually did something those 45 minutes. If they actually want good loot from afking, they should be in another game. Every good farming spot in this game requires you to put in effort, to actually do the stuff to get it. The AFKers are not only lousy excuses for farmers, they’re LOSING money by afking like that.

Well, what, mechanically, would constitute saving a citizen? Encouraging them? Rezzing them? Seeing them safely to their destination? How would you track seeing them safely to the destination, have every citizen be it’s own DE? I’m not very smart, but that makes me think something would blow up…somewhere?

I can’t imagine anyone doesn’t agree with AFK people not receiving a reward (though, we need to define what AFK is, and it would have to be smart enough to know the difference between walking in and doing nothing and someone that has to go rescue their child from crawling in an oven or answering the door or phone or what have you).

I think it’s great that the event offers something to do for folks that have completed their events and heirlooms or are a bit tired of saving the citizens (it does get a bit repetitive, even moving to other areas to help).

And honestly, it doesn’t really take ‘that’ many people to save citizens, if you spread out in small 2-3 person teams and make sure they reach their destination. You don’t even have to kill any of the mobs trying to kill them, if you do it right.

Now, if you are bummed because “they get your rewards but you don’t get theirs”, whatever that would mean, well…that’s a choice. It’s very easy to get everything they are also getting, if you choose to.

I mostly do whatever I feel like doing. I did some event grinding last night to finish up my monthly events, but I found the two times I went this morning, I found a fun and challenging area to help a few other people save citizens, and had a good time. We got 1200 both times.

I don’t mind farmers. People want to farm the events for bags, that’s cool with me. I ask that they rez the refugees as they run past them though. Some of the rest of us will clear their way.

I would like to have some better rewards for doing the actual encouraging/rezzing/escorting of the refugees though. More incentive for players to do that part of the event. Since it’s not as lucrative for the rescuers as it is for the farmers.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

You do realize that there shouldn’t be a zerg going around saving either right? All the good 1200 runs I’ve been in have had 10 man or so parties at each event and a couple groups running around saving civvies.

There is usually a relic run going on as well which doubles as a civvie run. If you’re roaming solo and getting smashed, it sounds like an L2P issue.

There is only one reason to farm EfLA, and that is to make a lot of Spinal Backpacks.

Otherwise it’s just dependent on if you find it fun or not.

I took this as an opportunity to level one of my characters to 80.
I have more blades than I care for and destroyed a few thousand. Turning in Found Belongings for Tomes has me going from level 29 to 73. I have learned ow to play the class more effectively and can participate in almost all content, regardless of if I am leveled to 80 or not.
As far as making money, I’ve made less than I have with a few minutes crafting Masterwork items to sell at the TP.

Farming is one of those bad habits people have picked up playing MMOs.
Even if I am farming XP for a character, I have found more success in smaller groups because Champs don’t drop what I am looking for.

- Heirloom Farmer? They are kind of after the same thing you are. Most of them (I was one of the, but now i have both potion) help saving civilians right after they finish the run to get more heirlooms.
- Event or kills farmer? They clear the ways for civilians and each event count toward the total saved civilians.

What other objective is there? There’s no bar “this much time needs to be spent AFK” or “this big of a zerg needs to be gathered”.

I just feel really bad whenever I try to save 1200 and I see just a couple big zergs around commanders. It’s really those commanders that are doing the community a disservice with their selfishness, they should know better.

There were many objectives to complete during the event. The first week and a bit it was out, I helped rescue teams revive citizens. After awhile, I started getting abandoned in rescue attempts I couldn’t get my character out of, like in Hooligan’s caves with mobs respawning and players just not wanting to fight through them again. I moved to “solo rescue” then, as I died far less and then had to deal with fighting off mobs to get to a civilian, only to watch other players dash past me, revive the civ and dash off without helping me fight – and sometimes dragging mobs over me in their dash.

Combine the above frustrations with players brow-beating other players for not hunting up civs in map chat, as well as not getting any decent reward for my frustrations and troubles, I said forget it and moved onto the other objectives of completing achievements, leveling and farming – which were far more rewarding than dealing with player abuse.

I can put up with a lot of stuff, but add player abuse into the factor and it becomes a big, huge NOPE.

Actually I have seen many instance of mass zerging succeeding quite handily. I don’t know how well they handle Molten Miasma, but the other events just get destroyed.

And it really doesn’t matter how big the zerg is as long as there are still dedicated rescuers.

Judging from my personal experiences only when the whole map co-ordinates a rescue, as in, saying which routes needs help and how many people are there, the limit can be breached without too much hassle. When there’s zergs going on, it’s not gonna happen, at least for me it didn’t.

But I guess we’ll see tomorrow what kind of new event we get, I don’t mean to be too “opposite of soft” (that’s a forbidden word? really?) on people but I’m just a bit frustrated and sad the event cannot be completed because in a way we are fighting each other.

you also can not complete the event without those events being done.
1. You can’t get achievements
2. Miasma raises faster
3. You lose a bunch of rescues due to being unable to clear the road for NPCs/ not getting saves from events.

Fact, Loot bags drop a thing. Fact,Tier bags drop a couple things. Fact, Ultimate bags drop 4-6 things per bag. The only reason you get more out of the other bags is because you HAVE more of the other bags.

Yes more often than not the stuff is junk, but that is true across the board. You still have a higher chance of getting at least rare junk from Ultimate than anything else. I emptied 500 Loot bags and I don’t think I got any rares. 50 Tier bags won me about 3 rares. 10 Ultimate bags got me 6-10 rares, plus a few exotic recipes.

Your farming is hurting others from completing the objective of the event.

This is your problem. There is no singular objective of the event. Just because people aren’t completing the objective you have in mind doesn’t mean they are playing the game wrong.

The fact that ANet designed this event with a conflict of player interest is a bad move. The problem is compounded by a bad scaling on Miasmas. I don’t understand all the holier-than-thou attitude some people seem to entitle themselves with and dish it out at other players… blame ANet, not at the zerg.

Oh, I definately agree that the whole mess is mostly ANet’s fault. With the loot so abysmal across the board it’s no wonder people will take the path of least resistance to get their bags. But still, I will not buy the claim that rescuing citizens would not be the originally thought objective of the event. It’s the same as Scarlet invasions, on many maps they weren’t completed since many people were just farming champions – it’s still a by-product of poor design, not an “objective”.

With the loot so abysmal across the board it’s no wonder people will take the path of least resistance to get their bags.

If they change/take away champ bags, people will stop playing. If they keep them, nothing will change.

Meh.

yet another qq thread…

now poor boy, if us farmers got rich doing it, why did you still save the citizens? are you just such a samaritan or what? if farming was the way to get rich, why save citizens then? is it not a poor choice of yours and also other qqers?

If an intention is to get rich, I recommend a part-time job. 40 hours a month on minimum wage can earn roughly 1200-1600g in gem-gold transfers.

Edit: To see that in comparison, that’s about 50g every day for 2 hours of work. While you could certainly get 50g a day on GW2, it would take a lot longer than 2 hours.

Perhaps I am blind to the cause. I had most achievements done on the second day of being released. I’m sure most did the first week. I do believe it’s unfair however to the players who can’t and now have to fight getting them done. Only fix I see is to do the events similar to Wurm just not as hard. Certain things have to happen in order and/or by a certain time. If not event fails…. doing so either forces people to get everything done or not do it at all. Then at least whoever is around is willing to get it done! I dunno just my two cents.

Remember we don’t draw on cave walls anymore.Language and texts have evolved since.

There is only one reason to farm EfLA, and that is to make a lot of Spinal Backpacks.

Otherwise it’s just dependent on if you find it fun or not.

Exactly!

That’s what just blows my mind about the people farming bags. Seriously, how many spinal backpacks do people plan on making? Otherwise the loot from those bags is just so-so, and the play isn’t all that fun when mobs melt in one second and you are frantically just trying to tag something..anything.

Why not play for some bags (you do still get bags playing for rescues!) AND a chance at the really good loot bag for doing 1200 rescues?

Why wouldn’t you play for a chance at the Monocle, the Molten Jetpack, the Air Filtration Mask, or the other good loot?!? THAT’s why people get so frustrated.

2. Miasma raises faster

No. It really doesn’t. The event starts at the same time past the hour, and ends at the same time past the hour, every hour.

Failing to complete a miasma event makes anyone standing with a certain radius of the miasma container suffer from the effects of the miasma, which can be stopped by simply walking up to the container and destroying it.

The only thing I’m going to say is there should be a reward for saving people too. If you save 20 people you should get 20 extra bags at the end. Problem solved.
