Final Boss Music Is Amazing
The music IS amazing but its not long it just loops between the phases. : )
I particularly liked the plinky plunky bit when the 3 coloured holograms appeared
Agreed. The music really goes well with the event and if you like to listen to it or download the theme, you can find the music at https://soundcloud.com/arenanet/guild-wars-2-battle-on-the
Cool, I haven’t heard it yet because I muted GW long time ago and I’m listening to my own music.
Yes, this cue is fine indeed, and my thanks go to Leif Chapelle for following such a leitmotivic approach by using variations of Scarlet’s theme (first heard during her appearance in Queen’s Jubilee). The prior theme is twisted into becoming a dirge as it goes through different movements. The melancholy feel of it with dark choral presence, wailing strings, beautiful piano and a steady beat in rhythm create an almost tragic atmosphere for someone who could’ve been a great asset to the world but who fell from grace and became a pawn of a more sinister force in the end.
Music was arguably the best part of the finale…. unfortunately….
The music during the hologram battle is fantastic, I agree.
The part that plays when the 3 holos split is my favorite, its got a nice feeling of calm but haunting unease. Very atmospheric. But its all nice.

Yeah, kudos to Leif (and to Maclaime) for the work they’ve been doing with the music. It’s really awesome quality stuff.
I still like the Marionette battle music over this one though. XD
I loved it.. was thinking the same thing.
This one is with female vocal and I think it’s even better:

I didn’t notice this final battle theme song was so epic! Mainly because i can’t stand the music in Guild Wars 2 and have the music turned off most of the time because its so boring most of the time. I have my own custom made music from fruity loops playing in the backround, being a gamer who likes rpg games and being a music producer works wonders.
But this track is awesome, thanks mate. That Leif person knows how to make a track, this is by far the best score in this game! Too bad its linked to such a terrible antagonist.

kitten! The orginal is great but this version is amazing! Thanks for the post mate! That Sharm lady made a great score sound like a theme song right out of a 90’s final fantasy game!
Scarlet does NOT deserve this theme song, this version by this Sharm youtuber/musical artist sounds like it should belong to some kitten female antagonist.

Oh wow <3 Nice catch.
The new composers are above and beyond anything Jeremy Soule has done recently.
Just saying, but as great as Soule is, I am really hoping the new team of composers get the opportunity they deserve for the spotlight.
From the memorable Christmas themes, to the theme of Southsun Cove, to the elegant Zephyr Sanctum, the LOVEABLE Super Adventure Box, Marionette, Tower of Nightmares, and now this… C’mon ANET, give these guys the attention they deserve.

I would have to agree on this. While Soule’s work is fine on it’s own, I feel the tracks he made are mostly disconnected from the game, as if he made them with no knowledge of the game itself, perhaps early in development. I also am not a great fan of Soule’s build-up followed by the sudden drop in pace in his music. It’s like he is teasing you; "Here is where my music gets interesting, but I’m going to stop it and return to a slower pace after three seconds!". My preference goes to more context-fitting and lengthy tunes.
Thorny Scrub – Thief
Desolation
Lol what? Disconnected from the game? His music for the Realm of Torment is just perfect, same goes with whole of Elona and Cantha. Those soundtracks may feel odd when played in Gw2 but they were perfect and incredibly thought-over in Gw1.

Then he got lucky with Realm of Torment, as for Elona and Cantha, at that point he already had experience with Guild Wars, and he had already put his stamp on the original game so naturally anything from him would feel natural.
His Wikipedia page states:
Soule rarely gets to see the game he is composing the soundtrack for in any sort of completed state before he begins work; as a result he bases many of his musical decisions on the company’s previous games. He credits his success with this strategy to the fact that many of the games he works on come from studios that have created several successful games in the past
The current composers are much more connected to the game than Soule was, and that’s why (in my opinion anyway), their music is spot-on. They know what they are writing the music for. They don’t just have a general idea of what the game’s going to be like, they even know the specific scene they’re going to set the mood for. That just gives them a big advantage.
As for the version with the female vocals posted above, although it’s nice, I personally prefer the original. For me, it just doesn’t fit. Maybe I’ve just listened to the original too often

Sharm did a great job with the addition of female vocals as a standalone version. However, in a sense of in game during the battle, I don’t think the vocals fit very well.

I agree. Sharm’s version is fantastic, but in game I think Scarlet’s lines are more fitting… maybe just because I’ve gotten too used to that lunatic, or maybe because the original boss piece is about kitten

I’m not entirely sure what you’re trying to say. So I’ll say this. You do realise most of the music in GW2 is the stuff Soule wrote for GW1 right? ANet just used it again, and that is why some of it may feel ‘disconnected’ to you.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in every MMO.
Stop failing at PvE, start fixing PvP/WvW. Thank you.
Final battle is great in my opinion.
Sometimes I play it just for the music and sounds.
My favorite part is definatley when the music is ramped up after the piano (kill microholos to finish off the the Prime one)
Very hectic and when Scarlet says, “Enough, enough, ENOUGH! No more…” was just perfect
I’m usually typing on my phone
I agree, the music is awesome! I also like the sound effects when you get the attunements.
I really had to stop myself when doing this fight , the music was amazing not that the other music thus far has been any lesser, this just felt like such a perfect pairing to what was going on.
Congrats Anet! now If I could only find out what that song is that plays randomly in southsun.
at the 3 minute mark, anyone know? I love this! thanks.

What I’m trying to say is that Soule just gets a list of tracks required without actually having seen the game. The reason the music in GW2 “fits so well” is partly because it’s recycled music from GW1, and new tracks by Soule sound similar enough to fit in with that. They’re still not songs that were ever written for very specific situations though.
Saying this here too, it would be great if the Living Story musics would have their own library in the game. Hate the fact that my custom Battle music library overwrites both the lackluster battle tracks in the game as well as the awesome and spot-on tracks of the LS encounters.
The music was truly amazing…! I did have a minor problem that it tuned down a lot during the cutscenes, luckily I have a keyboard shortcut for increasing the volume

There’s a point when there’s too much going on, and if vocals like that were in the music in the game, it would have been more distracting than enjoyable.

This.
The music was far to epic for what it was paired with, which was a kitten ed shame.
Hey everyone.
This music made me go back and replay the fight numerous times because it’s that good. I’m happy that it is available on Soundcloud and that Sharm composed her own version as well but there is one version missing imo.
Battle On The Breachmaker with Scarlet’s lines throughout. To me having Scarlet speaking during the battle only made the song better so I’ve taken the time to grab her lines from the game and merge them with the song. Some other characters like to make themselves heard since they like to talk at the most inopportune moments, I have tried to keep them at a minimum.

Note: This is my first music project so it’s far from perfect but I wanted this for myself for when the event ends so please download it and enjoy it as much as I have.

Would be nice if Matt Visual and Wooden Potatoes invited Sharm to their podcast.
Argick, that’s a treat, thank you! While the boon shouts had an unintended comedic effect, they did mostly work in counterpoint to Scarlet’s declamations.
This song feels like Scarlet. I couldn’t think of a better song to be associated with her.
It really was done exceptionally. I don’t usually care much for the music but as soon as it turned on I immediately thought it was really good.
At first I thought it was a sad theme but now that I’ve listen to it more it very nicely done the song with Scarlet talking is good the Female Vocal one is good but GW2 need more Vocal songs but Scarlet final boss theme is alright

Omg your comment just made it dawn on me why I never cared much for the music in gw2. I thought back and realized all my favorite songs from mmos had female vocals in it. This has been bothering me for awhile.
I think the whole event is awesome from knights to the final boss fight I really enjoyed it.

A few of them worked out well, the others just interrupted each other although it was funny to see how many times I’d have to recapture a certain line depending on who shouted over the top of Scarlet
Soule’s music started sounding same-ey ever since he did Morrowind. MorrowindIsNeverwinterNightsisOblivionisSkyrimisGuildWars. Compare those I just cited here to the creativity he has shown on the Icewind Dale and Total Annihilation soundtracks and it’s just obvious the guy stopped caring. The music from the video linked in southsun made me feel like it was straightly copied from Morrowind at first.
