And so it is with a heavy heart we say goodbye forever to players stopping to help each other out. Just like in the Nightmare tower, we see downed players being left behind just so people can “FARM, FARM, FARM those bags”.
Today I was quietly going around LA collecting Heirlooms. I was doing ok until a random pack respawned and I was downed. Ok I can handle this. It happens. Furstrating it may be, but not as frustrating as seeing the zerg run straight past me. No one helping me up. I tried to rally but I couldn’t.
So I waypoint and try again. I see someone in the same predicament. I stop to help only to have a group of mobs spawn again. down I go. 5 people completely ignore the player I was helping and myself.
So we both mention this in map chat. The responses show just how pathetic the GW2 community is becoming due to the idiotic zerg mentality. I only managed to screenshot one of the responses, but it does show how self centered and ignorant the community is becoming.
Is that really your current health? Could just be that people are tired of rezzing the zerker geared people that should not be wearing that type of armor?
I always try to rez, but if a person goes down for like 5 times I will stop rezzing that one right away.
The thing with the escort is that the NPC’s keep running forward. The only way to keep up is to run and not look back. If you stop to rez, you are in danger of losing the credit of the event and getting killed yourself. The escorts are quite hectic as it is (especially the lighthouse one) and only way to survive is to use all kinds of CC on the mobs.
“If he dies, he dies.” – Ivan Drago
Another thing that I hate is that people who are perma-dead will just lay there waiting for a rez, especially if the waypoint is near. People should take their sweet time to service you so you don’t have to run back? No thanks.
Aoe dmg in events are too great that rezzing is difficult. Even with my 29k hp regen warrior is having a hard time to keep up with high aoe dmg when rezzing somebody. Only after mobs subside will be a good time to rezz…
If they ran past you, fine you got something going.
But often I see players who do not play smart.
If you are 25% downed and you notice that a mob nearby is low health and currently being attacked by someone else, what is the smart thing to do?
Heal yourself?
NO!
You tag that mob so you can rally as soon as it’s dead.
If I see 4 normal mobs ganging up on a downed player, I 100% of the time will not rez you immediately. I can kill 4 normal mobs quicker than it takes to rez one player while taking hits. And I certainly expect players to realize this and tag the mob so that they will rally right away.
Is that really your current health? Could just be that people are tired of rezzing the zerker geared people that should not be wearing that type of armor?

And every time same comments. Like only people in zerk gear die… Don’t make me laugh, dude. In these events, having soldier armor won’t make a difference.
Some people with non zerker gear tend to sound like they are so proud of themselves and are feeling superior because they can stay alive for what…? three seconds longer?
And also, why shouldn’t they wear that type of armor?

But by then the event has moved. Rezzing during an event is really nasty with the massive aoe spikes from spawns. heck they drop active aware ppl let alon ones trying to heal others.
Im not one to say this usually but this time it is an l2p issue-you are gathering heirlooms on a zerker engi (i did the same on a zerker ele but you need to be quite good to pull that off) and you should have ran when the mobs spawned and waited for the inevitable zerg to wipe them out (mob spawn in groups at events) and then help the other guy.

Proud about not wearing zerker armor. Cant say that I am proud of something like that.
But I see you are completly missing the point here.
Meanwhile on my server I’ve seen people go out of their way to revive or rez folks.
Yeah I’ll pull away if my health is how and some Aethersnot is firing off his proton pack at me, but I stick close because Aetherman will die and then I can get back to helping people.
Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!
I tend to res people alot, even during events. But, if you die right next to a Waypoint, I’ll just ignore you. If you are in a fully downed state and sitting right next to a Waypoint waiting on someone to Rez you, expect to be ignored. RESPAWN, it’s right there. Otherwise, if I see someone about to go down, I’ll run over there and try to help them even if it means that I might go into a downed state.
I played yesterday and everyone was helping each other out all the time. If I ran past anyone, it wasn’t at all intentional – there’s a lot going on in these events! But if I ever noticed anyone needing a res, I would help as soon as the risk of me not also being downed came up. You can totally leave an event for the time it takes to res a person and not lose credit. I ran into and out of events the whole time yesterday and still got credit for each one, so I think that’s a poor excuse.
Sorry the OP had such a hard time, but I also think that way pointing isn’t that much of a deal if people don’t stop for you.
I usually can’t stop on escort missions. Either 1) I’m trying desperately to down one of the spawns just so I can get credit for the event, because acting as support gets you zero credit — regardless of whether you just landed a wicked crit heal or just dropped 5 long lasting boons at once — and thus is worthless. On the first day, I made the mistake of thinking “everyone is stopping for mobs, I’ll actually try to, you know, escort” and missed out on credit for the ogres, lighthouse and dolyaks. It was a dark moment when I realized I’d just wasted most of the 2-3 hours. ….
or 2) As the escortees run like their butts are on fire, spawning like 5 huge waves of enemies, I’m trying to aoe tag as I run with them to draw fire away. This is what happens after I’ve definitely murdered an enemy that definitely spawned for the event.
These events can be really challenging to get credit for. I’m sorry if everyone runs over you, but they are hustling to get these wonky events done :\ I’ve been in both situations and tbh I don’t fault anyone but whoever designed these events. I hope you have better luck next time! Try grouping during the event for some built-in support.
There’s so much AoE that usually I’m doing my kitten edest to keep myself alive. Sometimes someone’s too far in for me to get to :\ The less events I really need for achievements, the more I’m willing to run in and yolo it to rez someone. You see, I also spent the first day running to events only to find them completed by the time I got there. Even with swiftness buffs I couldn’t make it in time from the waypoint. So I learned to camp events. The less time I have to spend standing around or running to somewhere, the more I can focus on what’s actually going on around me, including downed players.

ANet has been trolling the player base with massive AoE in group events since their proposed nerf to AoE damage provoked a very negative reaction in early 2013. On the other hand, if your featured content is designed to provoke a herd response in the player-base, and if you want to challenge that herd, what else could you do?
It’s because rezzing, and support in general doesn’t give enough credit towards events and mobs. It’s actually pretty easy to not get anything from an event or miss out on the champion loot bags if you don’t do enough damage to the mob.
I still see most people ressing each other. I run a support build and am constantly spamming AoE healing and raising people whenever I see someone downed.
What bugs ME is the people who are dead (not downed, dead) and are a 30-second run from a spawnpoint but sit there expecting others to try to raise them in the middle of a fight.
I don’t mind someone ignoring a downed person under those circumstances. I prefer it. My problem is when I’m out away from the major events, but I happen to get over powered and someone wanders by, kills the mobs and starts ressing an NPC instead of ressing me. What is that about?
And so it is with a heavy heart we say goodbye forever to players stopping to help each other out. Just like in the Nightmare tower, we see downed players being left behind just so people can “FARM, FARM, FARM those bags”.

this game is about all about zerg farming so don’t blame the players for developer decisions. as you experienced, trying to rez someone around upscaled mobs made for zergs gets you killed so use a wp next time and don’t go solo in content designed for zergs.

When I see a downed player, or even a dead one off on their own away from events, I will stop and rez them. During events, especially these ones with massive amounts of aoe all over and those death lasers, I will “try” and rez a downed person. If however a red circle appears, I am dodging away. If you are dead, you are getting left there. Most of the events have a time component so when you die waypoint and run back. The lazy dead people that litter the battlefield are a big part of the reason these events fail. If an event is going on don’t expect people to pick up your corpse. If there is not an event right there and someone doesn’t stop to help you up, I would agree with you that that is just rude. Same if you are just in a down state trying to rally. I will always help someone trying to rally as long as I think I can do it without getting myself downed in the process.
It is not a L2P issue at all. I carry 3 sets of armour around with me in my bags. If I am solo’ing something or if I am collecting Heirlooms etc…. I will stick on my WvWvW gear which has toughness and vitality on it. This is what I was wearing when I was getting downed.
The screenshot that I posted is when I gave up and joined the zerg. As an engineer I can quite easily use alot of abilites to stay alive. However I cannot stay alive when 15+ mobs spawn at once and take my health from 22k to 0 in 2 seconds.
I stop to help everyone I can. Thats the way I am. It is also the way the game was when it first came out. Everyone and I mean everyone would stop to help each other. People were friendly. Now however we see a bunch of self centered people whom all they care about is getting the bags/loot/chest etc…….. The zerg mentality has won.
Is it so difficult to stop for 5 seconds to help someone out ? Is it going to cause you so many issues to maybe res someone ?
I always stop to rez a downed player even to sometimes go off my current path and risk my own life to see them get bk up again ( sometimes even to just see them stand their afk and get put down again lol) the community recently getting worse due to farmers ppl want stuff fast and done fast, with little effort. dungs are getting lfg AP limits pt on them or kick just so they can do speed runs now I love helping noobs in dung even if a 10min run turns to 45mins or longer. I don’t want blame the devs as they get so much stick as it is from community blaming them for ever little thing that the player base does.
I impose a little saying to you ppl that are destroying the community with your greed and selflessness " rub the wounded leave no person behind, protect the others and forget your loot grind."
I can’t be sure, but I think that person in your chat is saying they’d rather you killed the mobs so they rally off the mob death. It’s a reasonable way to do it, since it tends to be quick and doesn’t risk your own life.
I’ll res downed, but ressing totally dead people usually results in my own death, so I tend not to unless it’s safe. I’m happy to say I’ve seen a lot of good in this event so far, with people being ressed, and people sharing AOE heals as we run for the exit at the end, so I don’t think the community is totally rotten yet.
I don’t notice this happening much, then again I’m a Cleric armor, Mercy Runed + Healers Celerity Rez kitten ranger who spends most of the fight running from downed zerker to downed zerker getting their kitten up so they can do the damage I can’t.

It makes a big difference, when Teq was revamped zerkers all died out in the first minute, I have screenshots on my computer where I’m standing at his feet alone because people are either dead on the ground or piled up by the dozens on the turrets, because hey, who’s gonna notice they stopped half way and didn’t got back to the feet?
You know the fish heads that “one shot everyone”? They take about less than 50% of my Warrior HP. How’s that “won’t make a difference” for you?
This has been slowly but surely getting worse over the last 6 months. The amount of times I have been left for dead when there are no mobs about is ridiculous. A perfect example was a while ago. Me and another got killed just before our zerg had finished off a boss in a temple in Orr. There must have been a good 25-30 people there and all they did was loot the chest and then leave. I’ve seen it happen on champ trains on various maps, people are downed and just left there, it takes a few seconds for a few people to revive somebody. I now call this game Greed Wars 2 because that is all it is, the “me me me me” generation. I’ve seen it happen loads of times in the new content that was released the other day. People are downed, there are no mobs about and other players will just run past them and not help.

Zerkers aren’t the only people that get dropped by Teq.

The problem with dying with no one to rez is sometimes a matter of survival.
Often you get in LA with a zerg that splits, and splits again and again…
Staying with the group is a way to stay alive. It is funny that when I get downed, I have to check to see if I am within view of a zerg and how focused they are to decide if it’s easier to go to a WP.
I’ve also sometimes exclusively rez while playing my Mesmer, leaving clones and phantasams to do the damage, cover and distract while players get on their feet.
Not as much loot in the backline, but if the zerg survives, we all have a chance to survive.
When partying up with my husband to level our low level characters, we have been staying near the Canal entrance. There is usually always someone about. Just taking out respawns and rezing fallen players.
I understand this is cheap, but the nature of the zergs isn’t conductive to anything but level 80 players with the gear to survive massive amounts of vets, elites and Champs.
“Look like the innocent flower, but be the Obaba under’t.”
I think what we’ve learned from this experience is:
Giving more people the ability to res others does not actually make people res others more often.
So yeah, you’re technically still waiting for that one priest/cleric player to come around and help you up because he happens to love helping other people out.
I feel like this is Anet’s way of punishing players that run only with zerker, but I will say that the AOE are so out of this world, the scaling is messed up.
As u know im pro. ~Tomonobu Itagaki
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
There’s dead and there’s downed, very different situations. If there is a heated battle going on, no matter where, WvW, Fractals, Dungeons, Events, you never stop to mess with the dead. The dead need to waypoint themselves if possible so they can get back and help. Sometimes it’s OK to wait for a rez, but it’s very situational.
Getting yourself downed to raise the dead is just stupid. As for the downed, it’s a judgment call. If your already low on health, downing yourself makes no sense. Staying alive and killing an enemy has got to be the smartest choice. If your healthy, then healing a downed person is best because they are an asset once they are back on their feet, unless they are a rally bot. If someone continuously goes down, they are just weighing the party down.
Zerkers aren’t the only people that get dropped by Teq.

One day you’ll learn that you can’t crit world bosses and thus 2 useless stats that the time instead of survival stats even if it’s only 3 more seconds for you. I can only persuade you to do one thing at a time carry a secondary set of armor or help you learn how to dodge / move out of the red aoe circles.
Yeah I ignore down players from time but with limited dodges and a mob that would prefer to come at me, wading through 15-20 players we’ll
Well my choice is kinda handicapped in that decision.
On the bright side of this problem be happy that I wasn’t there on my trolling mode. I looooove using illusion of life on downed zerkers with only a champ at 75% hp.

I guess that’s me then? With 1100 healing power and 4 seconds of invuln I can usually get someone up pretty fast.
There are some events you just can’t stop and rez in. There are some that the aoe is so bad you know you will die trying to rez someone. If your downed and rezable I’ll give it a try if not in DS. Otherwise, Run back if your dead in AOE.

What server are you on mate? I wouldn’t make any kind of sweeping statement about players helping each other less across the board. I haven’t experienced this issue too much, but quite the opposite. When I’m downed I’m always fine because people rush to rev me. I don’t remember the last time I got downed for good when a Zerg was near.
I was in the same predicament as you OP, only it was in WvW. I was scouting the outside walls of SM, monitoring the movement of the enemy zerg, while the others are bunched up as you would expect at the commander tag in the west SM courtyard. Unfortunately, I was caught by a roaming gang of enemies, and died near the wall. Moments later the commander decided to move out. I was relieved the zerg was heading my way. I was hoping a noble soul would help me and rez me and save me the trouble of running back to the northern wall of SM. Nope, they just ran along with the commander, like flies chasing the dirty kitten of a prancing pig. I was disappointed, disheartened by the behavior I’ve witnessed. That was when I vowed I will never leave a downed man behind. I will never be as low as those who leave their team mates behind. After a while I’ve come to realize there are some who would go out of their way to help one in need. There is still hope. My belief is that for every thousand kitten kid in Tyria, there is one that is truly worthy of a salute.
Is that really your current health? Could just be that people are tired of rezzing the zerker geared people that should not be wearing that type of armor?

This is also precisely why we shouldn’t be bothering with ressing someone who is just sitting there. You’re far more likely to die and join your fellow victim than actually get him up on his feet. These mobs are MERCILESS.
On Marionette, I was particularly vocal and would regularly jump down people’s throats for not ressing their teammates immediately. The situation is a lot different here, and it’s rarely safe to res, even when the person isn’t fully dead.

Am on Aurora Glade mate. Was always a friendly server with people helping each other. However for a while now there has been a noticeable difference in players attitudes towards each other. You only have to read some of the comments above to see this change.

This isn’t entirerly true, when I’m rezzing someone I shoot up to ~3.9k armor due to mercy runes…
Also soldiers gear isn’t the tankiest set, Apothecary, Shamans, Clerics, and even Magi are tankier because they can eat up almost as much damage, and regen back A LOT more than soldier. Soldier just helps absorb a little more, but can’t really regen it.

The GW2 community is fine. There’s probably many confounding variables attributable to your lack of support. Seems unfair to condemn a community just from this.
I agree with the OP fully. I have seen comments in map chat like " Dead people get up off your Lazy kittens and WP" but the WP is so far that the player would just die again trying to get to the event.
I will stop fighting in a event if I am near a downed player. Though like many have said if the player is full on dead and a short run from a WP then I leave them. However if they are dead and it is a bit of a run, if it is not a moving event (Moas) I will try my best to revive a dead player. Once I get all the moving event achievements I will stop and rez fully dead players.
What gets me is when the downed player never says thank you. It is not that hard to type “TY” after a rez. I always say “TY” no matter what is going on.
