Honestly you can’t destroy LA without telling us what those asuran portals in Coriolis Plaza are for.
They are being worked on still and inactive, I believe the NPC working on it says they they can’t tell us who told them to work on it or whats it for. So my question is when LA does get destroyed will these portals be destroyed as well?

I just brought those up on another thread, as my reason for why I believe Lion’s Arch will be rebuilt – I can’t see what they’re for other than planning ahead for expansions. Otherwise, I dread to think the waypoint cost from LA to Elona, or worse still, to Cantha.

I suppose so. But the order came from someone wealth. I guess they can simply rebuild them.

umm the ‘queen of kryta’ ordered it.. so says the npc
she simply can’t tell where they lead to
i’m assuming it is an attempt of queen jennah’s to bring in currency for the poor of divinity’s reach.. why asura gates? we already have those, it’s possible with the fall of zhaitan she was hoping to open new roads and reestablish contact with cantha

Personally I think those gates were meant to do something but never really finished them so just left them there. I always though that the line with the asura talking about not being allowed to tell you anything, yet still telling you everything she knew, was a joke at those breaking the NDAs during the betas.

Still plenty of stuff left from there, for example, one NPC in the underground market in LA used to be wearing a huge helmet, which was removed on release… yet the line where you ask him what’s the deal with the helmet is still there (or was a couple months ago).

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

I think the original gate set will be damaged/destroyed, and that second one will replace them as the main hub.

I was hoping they’d lead to a whole new area, like Elona or something completely different.

I do believe that the gates are there for future content and I don’t think that content is abbanded. From the beginning Anet has been clear when they talked bout expansions or expansion type content.

I also think that the lore behind asura gates has shifted somewhat since release. Looking at the amount of time they have been building these, and looking at some other newly created gates, they newest generation gates can be build much faster and more efficient. They even have mobile gates nowadays (SE p1) or gates that appear overnight (fotm, southsun cove). So guess this won’t be a big problem. Our enemy’s even have technology to make somewhat stable gate-less portals. So after we kill her off, we can confiscate and refine that technology as well.

from a non-lore perspective.. the gates were “unfinished” 3 weeks ago..
why would they update them, after being that way for more than a year, a week before lion’s arch is attacked

The attack on lion’s arch could be an excuse to redesign it for an expansion.

My guess was that one would go to Elona, one would go to Cantha, and one would go to the Crystal Desert. I guess they may have been for something as my guess is that Anet didn’t know they’d destroy LA from the start.
