For those that bought it, how is it working out?
I know one argument is you can use WvW to do the same thing, but that only works if you have your keep and a waypoint setup in it to use the mystic forge, right? My server? Since the moved to floating match-ups months back, we kinda went down hill and I suspect lots of folks moved and we don’t do all that well any more.
Granted, I guess I only use the MF maybe once every 2-3 days?
Well, I was thinking about getting it. Hoping to hear from folks that got it and like it, regret it, or something in between.

I like it a lot. I also liked the terrace pass, but since this has easy access to fractals, a black lion weapon merchant, an activity npc, i like the ship better. I like being so close to everything, and the “exit ship” brings you down to all of the LS merchants, which I am frequently needing lately. I know that’s just a temporary perk, but still.
I love it.
I didn’t get the pass but I previewed it due to the one-time use ones.
I think it’s too clustered and claustrophobic. I feel like a refugee on a ship.

Ok, thanks folks. I think I might get it.

I prefer the Royal Terrace. As Vol wrote, it’s way too cramped on that ship. At the risk of sounding pretentious, it’s also not as nice on the eyes. :p
The Vigil Keep hub below will not remain there forever. However, if you want easy access to an activity NPC, don’t care for the Royal Terrace or wish to wait for passes to go back on sale, and are fine with the airship’s aesthetics, I say go for it.

I’ve never seen the Terrace. Is there a lifetime pass for that?
You mentioned it putting you in the camp when you exit. It doesn’t put you back to wherever you used it from in the world, like when you go to WvW and logout?
Plus, after that Vigil camp goes away, wouldn’t it be logical to assume the exit would put you somewhere else more useful? Perhaps a rebuilt something or new hub or somewhere else?
Hmm.
Royal Terrace:

It was released for 1 day or a weekend back in January.
No timetable on it’s return, but keep an eye out for it.

There was a lifetime pass on sale for only a day months back. Sadly, no idea when we’ll see that on sale again.
Exiting from the ship drops you near Vigil HQ. Neither the ship or Terrace return you to your previous location like WvW.
I wouldn’t count on the ship dropping players to a new hub. It might, but I personally wouldn’t spend so many gems on a maybe.

I hope you’re going to use game gold to buy it.
Yes I actually mean it.

No, I was thinking of using gems. I buy things from time to time, like extra character slots, an extra bag per character, extra bank space, clothes, armor, pets, etc. Just was wondering whether it might be something fun and useful to get.

As for utility, I don’t think anyone will deny that the pass is useful.
But there’s a lot of debate centered on whether or not it sets a dangerous precedent for future gem store purchases.

I used one of those one time passes yesterday. I didn’t like the airship at all. Honestly, I find Divinity’s Reach to be convenient enough to do anything I need to do.

Yeah, I guess I am in Divinity’s Reach a lot anyways, passing through on the way to SB or once a day farming my home instance and maybe crafting. It’s actually nice to see a few folks loitering around town again like when we started (though, I don’t think we’ll ever get that feeling back, wish I spent more time breathing it all in back then).
So, I guess I’m leaning towards not getting it, and saving up for maybe a new set of armor that I like, or a pet, or an extra bag or bank space or something.
Edit: But thanks for all the input, both thumbs up and thumbs down and why. Exactly what I was hoping for.

That’s a nice chunk of gold, almost enough to hop up to 500 in a craft. Seems a waste to use it for closer-together access of things you can already get to for free.
But maybe you’ve got all kinds of gold and, unlike me, really benefit from that quick back-and-forth between bank, crafting stations, trading post, and forge.

I don’t, actually, have all that much gold either. Don’t have a bifrost, though have the pre-cursor, but don’t have enough of the mats nor will I probably ever get to go to the dungeon I need to to make it.
What’s funny is, I think of gold and gems separate, even though you can exchange one for the other. I make gold via the game and only the game, and buy what I can with gold in the game. When I want something from the gem store, I buy gems with cash (though I wish each higher tier pack gave you a ‘few’ more gems, like every other game sells their in game currency). I never think of something in the gem store in terms of “how much gold is that”?

Ah, for me I like to save my real cash, as gold in a video game can’t help me out anywhere else. My trouble then, of course, is trying to apply it toward both fun toys in the store and progression in-game.
But if you’ve got gems to spare / regularly purchase gems anyway I am sure it’s much more appealing, indeed.

Seems more like a battleship to me. There are dozens of cannons aboard after all.

I debated for a while and got it. I put it on my current leveling project alt and it has been handy to be able to get him to services that fast (he’s not even 20 yet — yes I could use a level up scroll but the whole point is to enjoy the leveling process). It also got him some Gendarran WP’s for future use.
The ship is indeed far too cramped though having the bank and TP and forge within 5 feet of each other made crafting up the new backpiece a breeze on my main (used a one time pass to get in there). The problem was my main can’t smelt steel, being a LW/Chef, and if I logged to an alt who could I’d get booted out of the ship. So I bought my missing 5 steel ingots instead. That boot out on relog can be deuced inconvenient.

I purchased it with gems, I don’t regret it at all, as it makes crafting and selling much more convenient, plus from an RP point of view and airship is kind of cool, the views are nice too.
If you want convenience and like to use your gems to open up account options it’s a good buy. As for purists who think you should only obtain things via in game means, I play casually, I work hard. I don’t wish my free time to become another career so I use the resources from in effect actually “playing” my life, which is money.

Why? Some of us like to support the game and buy gems with real money. You should be thankful. If it wasn’t for us the game would be closing soon.
