For a world ravaged by dragons...
I’m starting to believe the elder dragon true goal is to put an end to the infinite cycles of festivals. A noble, yet really hard task to accomplish.
Seriously, are they doing anything about that? I’m starting to think the dragons may have learned from the last time that eating everything completely wasn’t a good idea, and are just consuming in moderation…but that’d be giving them too much credit.
Or maybe they got bored and just send up their minions for amusement. Maybe they found “nirvana” or whatever and decided they didn’t need to eat everything to be happy.
Ok, in all seriousness, I am wondering when we’re actually going to do something about that, because it’s like the world has forgotten they’re still out there. Or do the dragons have to attack Lion’s Arch before anyone notices? Sigh.

These are dragon-haunted times. -puts on party hat and fills up mug-
But seriously, don’t we deserve some celebration after taking down Zhaitan? I hope that gets mentioned in this festival which is unrelated to everything else going on in the world, only Queen Jenna’s 10 years on the throne as a single lady.

Bear in mind that Zhaitan rose over 100 years ago in-game, and Primordus rose over 200 years ago. These guys have been around for quite some time, so devouring the world obviously takes a while.
And…the world still held parties during this time.
What if.. dragon are actually the good guys. It’s the propaganda that shows them as evil, governments are hunting them down just to make a celebration about their defeat.
To prevent this, the dragons sent out their minions to plunder treasures from Tyria, then they fill giant chests with what they found and send them to leaders of all races with a champion as a peace offering. Unfortunatelly, we are so bloody handed that we always slaughter the mailman before he could reach his destination.
All makes sense now.

There is ‘holding parties’ and there is having a society that seemingly completely forgot dragons exist.
And honestly, we need to get away from LA. Hopefully this is a good start, but not everyone enjoys pirates, pirates, pirates, more pirates, a few more pirates and a ton more pirates. I honestly could not care any less about the on going’s of LA and its people anymore. If I have to save those people 1 more time then they are no longer worth saving.

Yeah. You tell them. Society is completely ignoring that dragons exist. It’s not like they’re having morale raising events about, oh, I don’t know… Bashing dragons or something like that… /sarcasm
In case you forgot, it was at Dragonbash that one of the council members died. Now we’re having an election, and the arrival of the Zephyrites and potential trade agreement would be a nice feather in the cap for whomever secures it.
This is leading into the tenth anniversary of Queen Jenna’s rule so of course she’s going to throw a bash in Divinity’s Reach to celebrate and also raise morale in the face of dragons, centaurs and ministers with nefarious intents.

Always found this confusing. Primordus taking so long is something I can understand. He’s being fought by the dwarves 24/7. But Zhaitan’s invasion of Tyria seems to have made remarkably little progress in 100 years.

I mean the centaurs that keep coming back like the tide, ebbing and flowing, the other ministers that are still plotting for power against the queen and the other dragons that still threaten the lands, including one to the north that’s closer than Zhaitan was in Orr. Thank you for asking, that was very kind of you to seek clarification.
Ya know… for a world being assaulted by dragons we sure have a lot of parties. I was sort of hoping for an update that wasn’t some kind of celebration.
I’m sure your post was great but I can’t hear you over the constant partying I’m doing in Tyria.

No one has any idea where Jormag is. There is no proof at all he is closer to Kryta then anywhere else in the north. Not to mention that his minions have never entered Krytan lands and thus have yet to pose any threat to Kryta.
Interesting that you mention the ebb and flow of the centaur wars… cause during that we defeat the current centaur leader everytime. Whens the last leader of the humans been killed by a centaur? I think humans are doing just fine defending themselves at this point.
When isnt there disapproval by some for the actions taken by their leader? Good news is we know who was a prominent force behind it. I think at this point they have a pretty good handle on things on that front.
So again, why do humans need a morale boost at this point? They just finalized a treaty with the Charr which secures even more peach for their lands. They just defeated the only dragon to ever attack Krytan lands in the rememberable past.

I don’t begrudge ArenaNet a festival event over the 1 year anniversary.
After this I am going to become quite bored if we’re not given some kind of proper meaty content to chew into. I’m talking explorable zones (proper zones, not mini-southsun-style zones) and an extension to the Personal Story or a faster paced Living Story.
The Living Story feels like it’s just dribbling in right now, slow and sluggish. I know there’s an over-arcing story to it, even as far back as flame and frost, but little feels to have happened since that first F&F update at the start of the year. I’d prefer an extension to the Personal Story with permanent content such that I can advance it at a speed of my choosing until it’s conclusion.
They just defeated the only dragon to ever attack Krytan lands in the rememberable past.
Presume you mean Zhaitan, right? Attacking Kryta through use of this Risen.
Kessex Hills has quite the conglomeration of Destroyers bursting through y’know. I count two Dragons directly threatening the safety of Kryta and her people.

Why?
Because the centaurs are still there, still killing people.
Because there are those for whom the scars of war with the Charr run too deep and still try to seek revenge and sabotage the fragile peace.
Because many of them have had loved ones die.
Because other dragons exist, and they don’t care about borders.
Because travelers come from these not so distant lands and tell tales of Icebrood and Sons of Svanir, of the Branded and other creatures corrupted.
And because they’re human.

1) This is Tyria, walk outside the walls of DR and giant wasps will even try killing you. I think these people are a little battle hardened already.
2) Yes, there are separatists that dislike the queens treaty. How is HER throwing a party going to help their morale?
3) Sure… loved ones died, I concede that one (though every race has had their struggles, I dont see the Asurans having a shindig in Metrica Province to cheer themselves up)
4) Again, and I dont know why you refuse to read this, the dragons have never posed a direct threat in recent memory to Kryta. Sure, the minions may not ‘care’ about borders but they still certainly arent crossing them into Kryta.
5) So scary stories have depleted the morale of DR? Right…
6) Human’s of Tyria are prided on their courage and their will, so I dont know what your getting at implying that they have low morale because of their race.

I’m really hoping for something with a little more depth and connection to the original story, too. Parties, pirates and gimmicky PvP minigames just feel worlds removed from the “world in dire peril” theme. Sure, have a morale-raising event here and there, but party! party! party! nonstop while completely ignoring established threats is nonsensical.
I like the Bazaar because it looks like an interesting new culture tied into some also interesting background lore, but no more Lion’s Arch for a long while please, and no more parties.
I agree. All this steampunk, pirate themed, garbage is ticking me off. I don’t care about pirates nor anything Steampunk related. If I would have known GW2 would be Steampunk Pirate Sim 2013 I woulda just bought a different MMO.
This is a Fantasy MMORPG.. Where’s the fantasy?

To be fair, from the point of view of the humans (which are the ones throwind this particular celebration), the dragons are a distant far off threat.
Zaithan is the closest threat, and by the time of the dragon bash he’s supposed to have been defeated by the pact, and even yet his attacks are closer to Lion’s Arch territory. Jormag woke up in the far north and have stayed there, and while his minions are slowly moving south, the norn territories are standing between humans and his influence. Primordius woke underground and drove the asura over the ground, but haven’t been heard from again (probably thanks to the dwarves) the few destroyers attacks that happen aren’t close to divinity’s reach. Actually the closest dragon that have threatened humans was kralkatorrik when he woke up, but he went east and never seen again, and the only human city attacked was ebonhawke that was in a stalemate in the war with the charr at the time and most humans in divinity’s reach saw it as some far away problem not concerning them directly.
Divinity’s Reach so far has been isolated from the dragon problems, which shows that the biggest problems they have in their surrounding lands aren’t dragon related, but with bandits and centaurs, and actually I doubt humans as a race would have been involved in the war against them in the first place if Queen Jenna hadn’t happened to be in ebonhawke when kralkatorrik’s minions attacked (in the Edge of Destiny novel), so I honestly don’t see a celebration there as far fetched.

This is a Fantasy MMORPG.. Where’s the fantasy?
How are pirates with flying airships, a culture centered around magical gemstones that give them great power over sun, wind, and lightning, and clockwork robots not fantasy?
They’re not “traditional fantasy” as in dragons, elves, dwarves, mages, ect. But they’re still fantasy.
I don’t think GW2 was ever touted as 100% traditional fantasy and nothing else. The Charr and Asura, the presence of rifles and pistols, and the fact that the pact uses tanks and gunships should have been a pretty clear indicator that it was going to be a mix of fantasy aspects in general.
And really, one single month of Aetherblades makes the whole entire game “Steampunk Pirate Sim”? Its not like we’ve been doing nothing but Aetherblade content for months on end. Heck, it hasn’t even really been a full month since the Aetherblades only really showed up at the end of Dragon Bash and aside from a couple events they haven’t had much role in this month’s content either.
As for the general complaints people seem to be launching every month its revealed the content isn’t a dragon or other life-altering large scale catastrophe… I rather like that sort of content, personally. It makes the world feel more alive, like people have lives and other problems aside from the dragons alone. Sure, the dragons are a big problem and all certainly, but having that one problem be the center of everyone’s lives would be kind of odd. People’s normal lives don’t tend to just come to a stop when some catastrophe is going on miles and miles away.
And I would hope the dragons would be built up a lot more, not just “Boom, monthly content preview, dragon ahoy!”. There needs to be a nice lead-in to more dragon content.
funny thing would be if some time after Queens Jubilee we could have been given Pact Invasion on Elona (Island of Istan) through living story content (You know to get rid of Palawa Yoko, have a pretext to make new legendaries (I want tormented shield!) and lastly atack Kralkatorrik Form the unespected side (south or both)

Considering how Orr has never been affected by any LW events, I kind of doubt that they haven’t forgotten about the dragons. Though I feel that areas like the Brand, and Frostgorge Sound shouldn’t either, it seems as though the threat of the Elder Dragons present there isn’t enough of a threat to hinder the festivities.
The Great Depression was when Hollywood, and the general movie industry really took off. When times are bad, people look for more ways to cheer themselves up, not less.
That said, it’s a little much right now.

I thought it was Zhaitan who rose first. From what I understand, Primordus was the last of the elder dragons to awaken, due to the events which forestalled its awakening in GW:EN.
Otherwise, why does Zhaitan have such a large foothold in Tyria, while primordus has nothing more than a few isolated groups of destroyers? Don’t get me wrong, destroyers are almost as numerous as risen, but Primordus has nothing compared to Orr.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Guys look at the event this way from a diplomatic point of view:
So Queen Jennah finalised the peace treaty betwen Human and Charrs for a common greater good (to fight against dragons together?).
However, recent events, especially the fierce election for council position between a human and a charr have inevitably caused some civil unrest based on biased racism (or specism?). While all that happening in LA, the effect might be worldwide and could potentially undermine the recently forged relationship between the human Krytan kingdom and Charr’s legions.
So Queen Jennah takes the opportunity to hold this jubilee, on the surface is just simply to celebrate her 10 year reign (a fair enough excuse), but the true purpose to strengthen the bond between the two nations. Notice that the main events of the jubilee are all about the new commissioned gladitorial arena. Charr’s favourite sport?

No. Primordus woke up first. While I am uncertain of the order for the rest,(I think Kralkatorrik was the last to wake up, right before going to kill Glint) Primordus was definitely the first to rise. Its name even means “first to rise” or something along that meaning.
The celebrations are part of the dragons agenda, when tyrians have been reduced to mere party goers the dragons will strike xd. Wait and see…
I’m starting to believe the elder dragon true goal is to put an end to the infinite cycles of festivals. A noble, yet really hard task to accomplish.
I lol’d.
They sure know how to party, 3 months of non stop partying!! and next patch will be more partying…
I think they need to put down the drinks and start giving us gritty high end fantasy stories. enough with the parties!
NPC #219:
“More pansies, less parties!”
(edited by Evans.6347)
Could I just say….
"We the heroes of Tyria are gladly able to join in on the Queen’s Jubilee. In these Dragon haunted times, we have defeated Zhaitan and wane the number of minions that spewed forth from Orr.
The people of the Kodan have been welcomed south into the open arms of Hoelbrok. As they’re pushed out of their homes, so our heroes push back against Jormag’s Claws and the Icebrood.
As Krawlkatoric’s forces pushed upon old human territories and the runes of Ascalon, so do the Charr push back against them. Once again us heroes are called upon, though this time as supporting reinforcements of the great Charr Legions. Between ghosts and Branded, the area is purely a pain. But heroic efforts hold back the waves of evil and the push stops.
Primordus still resides underground, to which the Dwarven army [turned stone through Dwarven magic] fight against him. Should they they fail, we will be ready to fight the rising army of Destroyers. Once the other dragons that are harassing Tyria in the present are dealt with, we will assist the Dwarfs in the slaying of the fiery beast.
Two other dragons have yet to rise, though it is being researched as to whether or not the Karka are minions of one such dragon from the deep oceans below. If so, then that can be chalked up as another victory for our Heroic ways, as we have pushed them far back out into the Sea of Sorrows.
It would seem that we’re doing a great deal to fight back against the waves of Dragon destruction across Tyria. However, the Dragons are not the only issue to be dealt with; pirates attack cities, Dredge invasions occur, refugees being exploited/slaughtered, and political take over attempts of a major city port. A few celebrations in between all this heroic saving of Tyria is a good thing."
Im done w steampunk. It’s time we do Renaissance re-enactment. It has a more MMORPG fantasy feel.
But to give Anet some credit to the details they put into some armor, the metallic objects in the light Aetherblade skin only looks proper if bronze dye varieties are used. Amazing details pop-out. There’s little to no depth in details if other dyes were used

Primordus – as somebody already told and his name is sugesting – awoke first.
acually he can have much greater foothold than any dragon – You don’t kwo how big depths are and how many of it Primordus already control.
Second Dragon was Zhaitan he have such nice start becuase he has been given many many dead guys on the beginning andd nobody harrased him while he was building an army from it – Lions Arch was flooded and Krytan folks goes to build Divinity’s Reach and much later rest of pirates build new lions Arch on the top of flooded ruins of the old capital of Kryta
Then Jormag – he had more problems because he had to firstly push back some norns Kodan and other folks – but after some time he made it to have their own kingdom, which growing is well-blocked because of massive amounts of Heroes that are just looking for the start of throwing corrupting crystals and meet Claw of Jormag
last KNOWN awakening was Kralkatorrik – when he awoke he wanted to check his old champion and “on the fly” made some kind of army. he got nearly killed by this champion and bunch of heroes, and after the fighthe goes to new lair and probably is still recovering from what snaff had did to him (I had once theory that snaff mind is still in the brain of the dragon, so even with his body dead snaff is some-kind-alive and that may be usefull when it comes to kill the dragon )

Primordus has a huge swath of land underground with all seven of the asuran cities which are said to be at least as big as rata sum, that along with underground dwarves structures, skritt kingdoms, and dredge areas…so primordus has plenty of territory and a metric kitten ton of magical items to consume right now
Asuran Engineer (Lost)
Isn’t that how all great empires fall? They grow fat, lazy, apathetic and party all the time.
At constant risk of being annihilated by ugly winged things which seem to live everywhere but places conductive to flying, tired from fighting waves and waves and waves of rotting undead, pyromaniac cat-demons, the mole-etariat, norn with confidence issues, sadistic weeds, and various elemental whatsits… yeah I’d take any excuse to party at that point too.
You mean those centaurs we pushed back, the minister we detained and the dragons that have yet to pose any direct threat to Krytan lands? Right…
The centaurs are still a threat and not all of the corrupt ministers were caught (Caudecus among them).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Interesting that you mention the ebb and flow of the centaur wars… cause during that we defeat the current centaur leader everytime. Whens the last leader of the humans been killed by a centaur? I think humans are doing just fine defending themselves at this point.
http://www.guildmag.com/magazine/issue9/interview.htm
And you’ve got the situation where just killing the king of the Modniir doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve stopped the centaur. The centaurs have their own reasons for attacking. If they weren’t unified by the Modniir, they’d still be causing problems. They just wouldn’t be as organized, they wouldn’t be as effective. So taking out Ulgoth doesn’t eliminate the centaur threat, it just eliminates the organization of that threat, at that level.
Centaurs are still a threat. The war’s pretty much a back and forth, even with the leader’s death they remain a threat.

You ignore the point of my post. Even the personal story agrees with me. People inside of DR have very little care or knowledge of the war with the Centaurs or how its going. Why one earth would a community that willingly remains oblivious to something need a morale boost to counter act it? This goes for corruption of ministers. Your average citizen probably has no idea of the going ons of what is happening with their ministers and officials and they don’t care to know.

Centaurs are still a threat. The war’s pretty much a back and forth, even with the leader’s death they remain a threat.
That quote literally says, while not eliminating the threat, taking out Ulgoth makes them less organized and less effective. So while yes, they still can cause trouble for a town, they are no longer a major threat to humanity as a whole. And thus, I stand by my point, humans at this point are doing just fine defending themselves. (By the way, I read that article when it was released, and its why I have the opinion that the current status of the Centaur war is far less dire then it was when you begin the game)

World ravaged by dragons? Did I miss something?
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Bear in mind that Zhaitan rose over 100 years ago in-game, and Primordus rose over 200 years ago. These guys have been around for quite some time, so devouring the world obviously takes a while.
And…the world still held parties during this time.
Primordus’s awakening was delayed, but only for 42 years. He was supposed to awaken in 1078 AE (around the end of GW:Eye of the North), but was delayed to 1120 AE due to us killing the Great Destroyer.
Jormag awoke in 1165 AE. Zhaitan awoke in 1219 AE, and finally Kralkatorrik awoke in 1320 AE…5 years prior to the start of GW2. The deep sea dragon woke somewhere at some point.
I may be wrong, but I think Zhaitan hasn’t been doing much because he’s been sitting there absorbing all the energy from the artifacts in Orr.
