Everyone who did not vote earned cash
actually that’s not at all what he was saying. prior to today, the tokens had no value at all other than to be put into a box to show your support. those of you who did not do that are now being rewarded with gold, while the people who spent gold to buy tokens to plug into the box got double kittened. these people did buy the tokens willingly, so they can’t complain about the gold spent on the tokens, but why in the world would anet, then after the fact, reward people who didn’t use their tokens for their only useful purpose?
I agree with you on that point. ANET did not play fair or rather they did not lay out all the options/outcomes clearly enough. What I take exception to and the only point about this whole topic that I object to, is saying that just because someone did not use all the tokens they found/purchased in the ballot boxes that they did not participate in the event. People participated, they just did not all participate in the way that many believed was the way it had to be done.
That the tokens gained value after the fact has no bearing whatsoever on whether people participated or not. It is a completely different issue from participating in the event.
It is what it is, and those that hoarded got some extra gold. Again I say it wouldn’t be so bad if the tokens hadn’t gone from 0g to 2.8g overnight. If they had waited, say a month or so, then I could see rewarding people who had “wasted” the space in their banks with these tokens for a month with a little bit of gold.
Can someone explain me why we can’t do anything useful with the buttons that we received for voting?
What about just let us sell them as well?

Because the world works in mysterious ways.
Nooooooo. Why? Why? Why?
Maybe it was just an oversight from anet’s part. ^^

I would just remove the maybe and call it for what it is.
Y’know maybe we can sell them because the darned things are still dropping . . .
I had 5 support tokens left after the election, so I sold them, but I agree that it would be nice to offer compensation for the players who have (possibly) stacks of candidate buttons remaining. It does feel a bit like a slap in the face to players who spent lots of time voting (and wearing down their mouse button). Maybe they shouldn’t be worth 1.1 silver each, but have them be worth SOMETHING at least…
Talk about “Fitz and the Tantrums”!!! Quitch yer Buitch ing———-If you were involved enough to participate in the voting— you’ve got your reward.. If you weren’t— you got some gold———————————-woooopeeee!!!

If they mean so much to everyone then why not go out and farm them?
Are they still dropping?
I’m honestly upset about this, and less about the few gold that I’m missing out, but the principle. This just adds insult to injury to any Evon voter. What did Anet honestly think would go through the head of anyone who voted for the loser at the sight of this? Are they completely oblivious? I know an open dialogue between devs and players is frowned upon over at Bellevue, but I’d still like a short statement from a redtag what the thought process was when they decided upon this.
I think at the very least they should send everyone who voted for the losing party (and maybe the winning one too, though it can be argued they already received the “spoils” of winning) a small or equivalent reimbursement (a la “Thank you for voting for me, although it didn’t work out this time around. Here a small gift as a show of appreciation”), so as to make it not a double punch into the stomach for supporting the losing candidate.

No, they are not still dropping. Just got finished zerg busting and when I would normally get about a dozen per zerg bust, I’ve got nothing.
They apparently still drop from JP chests. Probably an oversight.
@Galen Grey (sorry too long to quote).
You can’t see the perverse incentives this introduces into future content?
Participate in the event or hang on to whatever item and hope it’s worth money in the future. It’s like those refugee things you turned in during flame and frost. Knowing there’s a chance that they would be worth silver, wouldn’t you hold on to them? Is that what ANet wants?
Someone clearly did not think this through.
Actually I have a feeling that what is going to happen is people will expect this to be repeated and when it isnt complain that they were led to believe this is going to happen and were kept out of participating for the event for nothing.
I dont think this was a trend that we’ll see in the future, I think this was to make up for Arenanet not advising us ingame a little bit before hand before voting closed.
I didn’t cast a single vote. I just cashed in my support tokens for ~14g.
You know what I am seeing here people letting their own personal greed have them shoot their own foot.
So you’re raging because you deleted the tickets thinking they were useless. Fine I can understand not being happy about that but instead of learning from the experience and making sure that next time you will wait for the patch notes before deleting left overs you attack Arenanet saying people will left overs shouldnt get anything. Or how this whole initiative was stupid.
What do you think is going to happen next time?
Arenanet will look at this and if enough people complain they’ll figure its not worthed!
They didnt do this as some sort of content, this was just a nice gesture so that if you went through the trouble of acquiring tickets but never got around to using them all you wouldnt have simply wasted your time you got something small in return. But if this is not going to have the expected results (make people happy) why repeat it?
So yeah with your attitude you’re not solving anything expect making sure next time any left overs will be nothing more then trash to delete.
As for those who cannot understand why tickets are sellable but buttons are not think of it this way. The support token things where like raffle tickets. You could buy / earn as many raffle tickets as you wanted for 2 weeks. You could deposit your raffle tickets in a big urn from which a winner would be selected. The buttons are the tickets that have been cast. You got the value out of those tickets in the form of your chance to win. The tickets which were not placed inside the urn though were technically wasted… you paid (money or time) for them but never got anything in return for you investment. Arenanet here is being nice enough to buy those back. Nothing else.
That is absolute BS. After getting a stack of buttons I began deleting the tokens as I got them. I must’ve deleted over 1k. Complete and utter BS.
Thats your fault for not keeping them around you cant blame anyone for that.
All I want is pure destruction!
I placed alot of tickets in to vote but still had some leftovers, although i voted more then leaving some in bank, yet im not QQing over how others can sell em. Whats the big deal, you gonna cry over something like that? This is one reason why we cant have anything good. You had a choice of choosing to vote with the tickets or not, Arena Net didnt point a gun next to your head and tell you to vote. If their is anyone to blame then it is yourself. Some players had a feeling/thought of it that if you dont use them maybe they may 1. Go away/remove, 2. Can be sold for some coins like Junks or somthing. So take that dress off and end your little tea party already.
All I want is pure destruction!
I think most of the people here are just objecting about the principle of the thing. The gold loss is negligible unless you had craploads of tokens lying around, anyway. I know it certainly felt strange to me…it doesn’t feel right. Principles. Why did they do this?

As someone who is MANY T6 mats shy of my first Legendary weapon, the 3+ gold I lost from this is anything but negligible.
I don’t usually delete any of these sorts of things for a good while. You never know.
But I do think it’s a bit odd that people are being, in effect, punished for participating in the voting, and rewarded for not participating in the voting. The leftover candidate buttons ought to be sellable too, since they’re effectively just tokens that were used.
You get punished for voting. Brilliant.

This thread is absolutely ridiculous. The token selling obviously wasn’t intended for players stockpiling tokens, it was for the leftovers. If there was an adverse effect because of stockpilers, so be it – it wasn’t malicious.
You used your tokens for their intended purpose – voting. It’s not like you had a choice for these tokens to drop or not; everyone got them. If someone didn’t want to participate in the event then oh well, it is what it is.
People will complain about anything, geez.

I didn’t cast any votes. I vendored my tokens for 14g after the event. I have to agree with Gnat.9405 , though.
I could have made far more gold if I were to sell the votes during the event for the going rate of 10 votes per 1g. As it stand, the vendor value is only ~1/10th of that. By saving them, I made far, far less gold.
But since ArenaNet didn’t even count the votes, I saw no reason to leech gold from the community…. =P
Yeah, that kinda kitten ed me off too. Not because I didn’t have any tickets left from using them since I only turned them in for badges as I used them. I had literally just thrown all of my extras away the night before cause I thought they’d just be a useless waste of space.
On the bright side, this even taught me to save up all “event-focused” items that I don’t use for sale afterwards…like the gears in QJ.
WTG anet another job well done……..
Yeah! So glad I ignored that stupid event.
Pretty much. I can’t say I mind having a little extra gold, but I’m not sure how to feel about being rewarded for not bothering to read up on the event.
