Maybe I’m reading into this too much but I wanted to post the question here in case anyone knew for sure. Are “Holographic Dragon Wings” and “Holographic Shattered Dragon Wings” different items?

Based on the descriptions below it sounds like they are 2 separate items which can be obtained in different ways. One sounds like a rare drop and the other sounds like a Meta Achievement reward. I hope I’m wrong since RNG items are such a pain to obtain. I’ve quoted the descriptions below for convenience.

From the Dragon Bash info site :

Holographic Dragon Wings
This dragon wing back item is only available as a very rare drop in the Dragon Ball Arena and throughout Tyria during the celebration. Ambitious adventurers who collect a large amount of Dragon Bash candy can obtain these exclusive holographic festival wings.

Holographic Shattered Dragon Wings
Dedicated festival goers who earn the Dragon Bash Meta Achievement will receive this imposing back item – a set of holographic Shattered dragon wings!

Yes, they are different items.
Holographic Dragons Wings are “clean” wings, you can see a pair in the Dragon Bash trailer next to the guy that wears the new helm + Jade Shield & Axe. The shattered wings are more… shattered, they look a bit like the Shatterer’s wings (ironic huh?), but then blue, as you can see on the release page.

I was afraid of that. I’m guessing the rarer of the two items will have higher quality art and animations associated with it as well. The color alone makes a huge difference for me as I much prefer the look of the wings featured in the video. Yay grinding =/

You can get an account bound version with candies, or a non account bound one in the Dragon Ball activity, with other words: you can buy one from TP

Good to know. Being able to buy the rare one with candies is a nice option although it’ll still be a grind for candy …. just a more predictable grind than RNG =]

The one that’s easier to get (Shattered Wings) actually looks better imo (though they both look great).

Absolutely. I didn’t mean to imply that I wouldn’t strive to obtain both. It’s just that my main is already rocking a very complimentary color scheme on her armor which makes the ones featured in the video more desirable.

That said I’m hopeful they will both be animated with the “flapping” motion but since I’ve only seen the “rare” ones in motion I don’t want to get my hopes up on the shattered version just yet.

I can say I’m equally exited about both back skins now. Loving the most of the skins in this new content.

I doubt anyone grinding the world pop-ups, or via any other game play means, will ever come close to 100,000 ZTs over the course of the event, so people who want to go that route will likely have to purchase a fair portion of those ZTs off the Trading Post. Most will likely have to spend cash to buy gems to trade for gold to do so. Just another very crass way to drive revenue.

Depends on how often Dragon Coffers drop and how many candies they contain. The video seemed to suggest they drop frequently (not to mention dropping from every game of Dragon Ball you win), and if they have as many Zhaitaffy as the Karka Shells / Passion Flowers inside of the southsun crates, it might actually be decently possible to accrue that many over the course of the whole event.

You get Shattered Wings by completing 10/14 of the Dragon Bash achievements. You get the normal dragon wings multiple ways including 100,000 candies, very rare drop from coffers, (I think) Dragonball, and the TP.

I like em both.

i’m assuming the Shattered Wings, which are obtained via the meta DB achievement, will be account bound? i.e. each account will only be able to sport one?

if so, i’m gonna have a hard time deciding if it’ll go on my PvE/WvW or PvP char!

It really sucks to be an engineer lol. All Anet is adding is a bunch of cool back pieces. Everyone else will have aweseome wings, rocket packs, tentacles, and a cool looking flower on their back and Engis will be sporting their hobosacks.

I don’t like the frequency of the flapping. Drives me nuts just looking at it. They really need to decrease that frequency. These wings would be so much nicer to watch in slow motion. Additional colors would help, too.

just got the holographic wings. they look good when standing, but when i run with my human mesmer it looks very off …i wish i could turn the flapping off…

If you want the holographic wings (the non-shattered ones) your best option is probably to farm the hologram mobs.

All enemies in the game have a chance to drop the wings as one of their rare items, but I think it’s slightly higher from the holograms because they have a smaller loot table.

But if you don’t get the wings directly you can sell the candy, dragon coffers and anything else you do get and use the money to buy the wings from the Trading Post. The coffers especially sell for a lot and the wings have been steadily dropping in price, last time I looked they’re down to 20g which is not a huge amount if you have a level 80 character.

And the good thing about this method is because the coffers drop from mobs in low level areas and sell for the same price no matter who gets them low level characters can make money at roughly the same rate as level 80’s doing the same thing. (Slightly less because the regular drops will be worth more for a level 80, but not enough to make a real difference.)

it’s debatable which ones are easier to get. The regular wings are currently around 19-20g (with the price slowly dropping) on the TP. That is nothing compared to what some stuff sells for. The shattered ones take a lot of grinding of achievements, which some may rather not do. You need to do 10/14 Dragon Bash achievements to get those. Currently 9 can be done, though the 2 Dragon Ball ones aren’t registering. Of the other 7, 3 are pretty easy (talk to the captains on the west side of the piazza, eat 250 taffy, and watch the finale of the fireworks show (if you know when dawn is on yer server)). The other 4 are rather time consuming and lame, unless yer really lucky at betting on Moas.

You can preview them both in the PvP locker I prefer the shattered ones but it is a matter of opinion which looks best.

Didn’t want the Hologram ones… got them anyway just doing Pact storyline in Orr… And even if hologram spawns had a higher chance, the longer amount of time it takes to beat them would kinda defeat the whole point of farming anyway.

I mean this is barely one week into this, it just started 3 days ago and TBH, my luck is usually pretty crummy nomatter the game but if I got them randomly dropped already then I bet most people will within 30 days or however long this will last.

I was lucky enough to obtain the holographic dragon wing cover from a wooden chest. Can you equip and unequip the wings at any time? Or cant you sell them after use? I am new to the game and only lvl 15.
