How would you rate this update?
Old fractals being made even more punishing and time consuming – bad
Some fixes for old fractals – good but needed much more
Infusions becoming a gear grind item – awful
Storytelling – Scarlet awful (I’ll giggle and tell you all my secrets and then run off)
Storytelling – Kiel and Tessa – much better
Reactor Fractal – some new fight mechanics but visually bland and disappointing
0/10 because I don’t like fractals and won’t be doing any of it.
I’d give it a 3/10, only because of Instabilities and Deesa’s short story that was unexpected. Gold rewards should have been added sooner. The only thing i saw “fixed” was the wall in the Maw fractal, and that barely changed a thing, Cliffside is the same as before, and on top of that the new additions are buggy as well. As for the new fractals: Thaumanova is a pure gimmicky fractal that is supposed to be hard until you figure it out, deffinetly not something that Fractals needed, repeating the maze for the xth+ time is going to annoy most fractal runners, rather than impress them. As for any other “new” fractals, so far as I have seen, they have been 1:1 as the content they were made from, I am surprised more people here aren’t outraged at this kind of repackaging things as “new”, when they aren’t. I can understand the people that haven’t played through that content, but for that you can only blame them for making that kinds of content temporary, and now they expect us to jump for joy when they return it.
In light of ANet’s move to re-work the Flamekissed armor set I’m no longer hellbent on uninstalling when I get home from work today, but I’m still disappointed by the Scarlet stuff and the general direction the game seems to be taking. I’ll stick around for now but I don’t plan to do anything serious.
So long as they continue focussing on mediocre, grindy and buggy living story content, the game will continue to disappoint me going forward.
This is not to say I am completely unhappy with Guild Wars 2 in general; all the base content is great and I have generally been happy with all the permanent content they’ve added. Unfortunately it’s overshadowed by all the crappy temporary content they keep focussing on.
im giving it a 1 /10 mainly cause its cause a riot on the forums and gives me something to read otherwise i didnt care at al. maybe a 2 because i for to rate something

I am feeling the same way. More and more each patch.
The update it’s self is decent enough, but the rocky, bug-ridden release and more lore butchering just makes me shake my head, as it does for many others.
Most importantly, however, this update is showing players and (hopefully) Anet alike that not only is the two-week release schedule not working anymore, but should they actually go back to a more reasonable one-two month release schedule, we NEED a proper Public Test Server to break the crap out of the update so it can go life with as few hiccups as possible.
Overall, I agree that the release pace needs to be slowed down. There’s a real feeling like the community is:
a) feeling burned out by all the “new stuff we have to do before it disappears”
b) dissatisfied by the quality of the released content due to bugs that block progress. More testing and polishing is needed before release, not to mention fixing of existing bugs.
The new Fractals are fun. I liked the Thaumanova Reactor story, and while I’m not a fan of Scarlet, given what we know of her story it does make sense for her to have been there. It’s also fun to be able to face Mai Trin and the Molten bosses again. Last night I taught a PUG how to beat Mai Trin’s fractal relatively easily; they were astounded at how (relatively) smoothly it went after two of them spent hours in different PUGs failing over and over again.
The T3 Cultural armor debacle is something I can’t defend though. While I don’t mind having Cultural armor be worn by all races, I’m astonished that this went ahead knowing that there would be a vociferous reaction to it.
Content wise: 7.5/10
Fractals could’ve had much more fine tweaking than it received, but it’s a nice step in the right direction that was well needed. It’s finally something that doesn’t take 1 hour to fully complete.
It’s nice they finally took some time to rework some of the already excisting content.
This is hardly needed all across the board though, so I’m hoping to see more of it.
The rehashed living story dungeons are put in a nice new coat. Although there’s some doubtful decisions in there still (mithril ores / bogey control panels / ‘’safe corner’’ ).
Also there’s been nothing said about why they chose to not give any compensation for the removal of levels that people worked for. The gold rewards for fractals seem like such a tease.
Gem store wise: 1/10
Three reskinned armors. Only one is being replaced because of all the upset people, even though there’s 2 other armors that also got a reskin.
Reskins feel so cheap, especially cause they are gemstore…
They have nothing to do with the living story.
The difference in quality of them is just astounding.
And I personally hated the look on all of them.
Another skimpy light armor. Another pirate medium armor. And another super goofy heavy armor.
Lore wise: 4/10
I don’t see why they still haven’t found a way how to properly give us lore and background. Honestly I still have no clue what Scarlet had to do in the thaumanova reactor. Not only because I’ve stopped caring about all the random annoying stuff she does, but also because you’re being bombarded with stuff in your chat window right before a boss fight.
In the end that leads to a 4.17/10
Luckily I consider the content to be of more importance and with the light armor being removed from the gemstore (hopefully the other two as well), my happy scale will still be on the positive side scoring a 6/10 on the full update.

Removing achievements from anyone for any reason is a total failure!
I’ve never done fractals and now I certainly wont become involved in temporary content with temporary achievements!
7/10
The content as a whole is really good. I especially enjoyed the Thaumanova final boss as well as Mistlocks (although they become trivialized when you can just skip a difficult one)
However, the way some of it was implemented was bad. Specifically, the patch was released with lots of bugs, dredge fractal became even worse, Anet hyped up the Thaumanova only for it to be “lol Scarlet” and didn’t answer any of the real questions most cared about. Then there was the whole gem store armor fiasco….
Also, Sky should be just T2 (people are just going to reroll anyway), Grawl should be T2 + T3, Cliffside should be just T3, and Aetherblade should be T2.
Overall though, I do enjoy the changes to FotM and I hope it doesn’t take them another year to update it again (well, maybe I will if they keep “fixing” dredge fractal)
Tyr Sylvison – Warrior
Illyiah – Revenant
(edited by GoldenTruth.2853)
I don’t do fractals. So I’m pretty much completely ignoring this update.
But that’s fine with me. I’ve been hoping for a lull in LS to let me just chill out and do whatever. Get some zone completion, do some more personal story, maybe try to actually learn dungeons finally, whatever.
Getting shuffled from LS to LS and rarely having time to do anything else gets old.
Scarlet
- This almighty powerful being who came out of nowhere also happens to be everywhere and behind everything. With some “mwhaha I’m not a good girl” dialogue inbetween. Long lost is the lore of the guild wars universe. The interesting and complex interaction between different factions with different political or magical backgrounds. The mystery and majesty of the mursaat, the abandonement of the human gods, the ancient dragons awakening, the ironic destiny of dredges who were once saved from enslavement by humans and are now fighting them. Everything. Everything that is/ was interesting in Tyria is being forgotten or ignored. The entire world now revolves around the writers’ new favourite and adourable pet, and in turn it doesn’t feels like a world anymore. Tyria is being re-shaped around a character that the playerbase can’t even like. Classic example where it seems like the writers are treating their favourite characters like their own kids, spoilering them by re-shaping the entire content around those characters, at the cost of everything else.
The writers are not very good and the company doesn’t have the integrity to do anything about it.
I can’t rate this latest LS. I refuse to participate when that horrific character is involved.
4/10
Mainly due to loads and loads of bugs! Making it very hard to play!
The Tower on the other hand 8.5/10…
Different design teams…so that’s why content goes good, bad, indifferent…also no quality control…
Well some bugs have been fixed and I like the 3 new fractals, so changing it to 7.5/10 for this update, it really helps with the positive when I can actually play it…
3/10
The fractal update is meaningless to me, since I can’t play them.
Toxic tower? 6/10 for both updates; the tower could have been much cooler, with some real background and substance, but instead it was a scavenger hunt followed by another zergfest. I do like the obelisk in my home instance. Then they reverted to giving us useless mini pets….
I’d rate it as N/A as I don’t participate in fractals.
Like the update a lot. Just about anything it was an improvement. The lore stuff about Dessa was pretty cool too (even if it’s a sad story).
The only downside about this entire update is Scarlet. All the other stuff was very nice. Well, apart maybe from the rune…that’d be perfect if the aegis lasted 10 sec instead of 5.
0/10 because I don’t like fractals and won’t be doing any of it.
This. Plus the fact that the one fractal I was looking forward to due to lore they used as another Scarlet vessel, which makes it even more fail.
5/10 on release.
-The Reactor Fractal started with the reactor ready to blow. Disappointing
-Scarlet shoe-horned in (and I like Scarlet, but really ANET?)
-A lot of bugs that actually stop the progression
-Gem store fiasco resulting in ANet recklessly steering to remove one skin off market.
Well… I did just the “story” FotM. It was enough for me.
Actually I was voting for Evon and I’m really glad that Kiel won it. First – I understood it after voting, that Abbadon is to heavy stuff to deal with it in what? 20 minutes fractal?
And then – it’s always a 99,9999999999999999% possibility it turns out that Scarlet did it.
And yeah – Scarlet. I’m really tired of her. When Kiel won, I thought – it’s great. More Asuran lore. It’s a good thing actually. Asuras were downgraded. Blue holograms, kablowie and mad genius charade gets old pretty quick and those are only cards that Anet was playing in this deck. So having whole fractal devoted to Asuras and their problems was amazing opportunity to expand one of Tyria great races. Great but small.
But instead of that, we got another Scarlet moment.
3/10 – good fractal (in terms of gameplay), wasted potential, verminous with bugs like hell!
Personally, I’d give it a 3/10. Scarlet being behind it all once again is just…ugh. We had a chance to learn something new and interesting with this fractal, but no. Scarlet did it. Again. The new gem store armors annoy me as well, not just because they rehashed the human T3, but because once again we get gem store exclusive armor, that like many other sets, is on fire. We have a ton of gear with a fire theme, why do we need more? And honestly are we ever going to get new skins that aren’t tied to the gem store? I can’t even remember ever getting a new, full set of armor that didn’t cost gems.
The change to sylvari cultural armor is what personally annoyed me the most though. I spent a ton of gold outfitting my sylvari, only to log on today to find her looking MUCH worse. This has happened before, anet. I get that a lot of people complained, and changes were made to get the old looks back. I understand that a lot of people like how it is now. But please, in a game so heavily focused on aesthetics, don’t just change how a sets textures and dye scheme work so suddenly like that. Changing it again hasn’t pleased everyone, it’s just aggravated a new group of people.
The one good thing to me, and the only thing that earned this update a 3/10, is the new gvg arena. Finally we have an area without bloodlust, allowing us to have legitimate duels and gvgs. Yeah there’s people trolling in it, but that’s just people, I can’t entirely blame anet for that one.
I love GW2. I really do. I’ve played since the first week it released and have had a blast doing so. But I mean, lately…there’s new mmos on the horizon, anet. They’re gradually starting to look more and more appealing.
So let’s sum it up… You care more about the dresses then gameplay… Great! So what happened about playing the game for fun and not for the rewards?!
And what would be my rate? 3/10. And not because they’ve messed up with the dresses. It’s because the story sucks – its just a boring reveal that it was scarlet again. But there was no beginning and no middle of the story (if the update was all about the story then I would rate it 1/10 actually).
And the gameplay. The new fractal is the worst one ever made. Other two are just returning old dungeons that should have stayed in the world!
And the rewards revamp… At least the agony resistance still serves a purpose… So at least they didn’t broke something that was working(that’s why I rate it 3/10 as a whole). Other then that it’s still all useless and unrewarding mess.
To me, I wouldn’t even say this is an update. It has no effect on the overall world. Because of this, I won’t give it a score. But I will say, from the little I experienced, I didn’t like it.
