Leader of Looking For Gandalf [LFG]
Worst Commander of Ferguson’s Crossing (Self Proclaimed)
I have a slight issue, which I am sure others are having as well. I had to log off earlier today, before the patch. I did not get a chance to use my last batch of cyphers, but no big deal, because we were informed that Scarlet’s Lair was going to be sticking around. (See: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/madness/When-will-Scarlet-s-Secret-Lair-be-closed)
Well, Scarlet’s Lair is still there…but all the chests are open and empty. No way to interact with them anymore. Why were we not informed about this?
I may only have about 20 cyphers, so yeah, only a days worth of work down the drain, but I know several others who were saving their cyphers until the patch, since we were told the Lair was staying, and now, all their hard work is for nothing. I am sure there are a lot of people out there who were saving them, or have some left and were unable to use them before the patch.
Please tell me this is a simple mistake, and that people will be given the chance to use their leftover cyphers.
Really? Anet really trolled us this time. I still have > 20 keys to use.
Please bring back the chests anet.
Why would people have saved them? That sounds counter-intuitive. It’s not like the rewards get better if you hold out.
But I do agree they need to be more vocal about when they are going to make items redundant.
yea i have a bunch of leftover cyphers too and it really is a bummer if they really trolled us
cuz the thread that Kreejaffa linked was about if we should use all our cyphers now and the answer was that the lair was staying around
i hope its just a bug
(edited by SOULFLY.7942)
surprise surprise…
Sometimes i wonder if they do this just to fill up our inventories…
Pls put back the chests so we can use all our leftover cyphers, there should be provisions by Anet on matters like these since most ppl were not informed appropriately of the exact changes.
Yeah that really annoys me and makes me not want to play anymore because I know people have asked about what happens to the chests after the event, and I never heard anything one way or the other about the chests disappearing, so it seemed to be generally understood that they’d stick around a little longer after the event so people could use up their leftovers. If they were to disappear, there should’ve been an official notice about it on the News page. I know I don’t have time to spend clicking through all of those cyphers, chests, and spare keys in one day, studying/selling/salvaging all of that loot.
I also have leftovers that I was planning to use today. We had been told that Scarlet’s Lair would remain, and I was under the impression that this included the chests you can find inside them.
Sometimes i wonder if they do this just to fill up our inventories…
Well, if our inventory and bank are full, then we have incentive to buy more bank tabs and bag slots at the gem store.
That said, I agree that this was either an epic communication fail or an epic troll, as that thread was explicitly “When do I need to use my cyphers by?”. Either way, the right thing to do would be to apologize and fix the chests for at least a short time.
(No moa in this race, personally; I used all my completed cyphers yesterday and was merely hoping to have opportunity to acquire more fragments from the LA fights.)
(edited by rootsandleaves.3976)
When they said they were going to keep the lair, I too thought that they were going to keep it intact. I see I was wrong and I should never trust ANet’s word again.
Seems kind of lame to not tell us ahead of time that the cyphers would be worthless after the patch. I’m hoping that was a bug, please tell us that’s what it is, ANet
Here I thought ANet was gonna be logical:
End the events that drop the fragments/cyphers -> Allow people a little more time to use up their leftovers.
Alas, ANet is not being logical here.
Thankfully I used up MOST of my cyphers ahead of time, but I did follow Rubi’s suggestion today and ran a few more Marionettes while waiting for the patch… I didn’t rush to use up the fragments I got because of this…“misunderstanding.”
Similar thread in the sister topic… same problem.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/escape/So-about-all-these-Cyphers/first#post3657295
Ahh. I had just looked in this section. My bad.
I also saved several days worth of cyphers, procrastinating from turning them in only because an official response saying the lair would stick around was given specifically to someone who inquired about how long we would have to use cyphers. I also genuinely hope that it was an honest mistake, and that even if not, Anet would understand why players like myself, and many others, could feel cheated due to miscommunication.
I’m jumping in on this one – the comments in the other thread suggested it would still be possible to get in (and thereby cash in the tokens left over).
It’s not a value added activity to spend time removing this functionality – there’s a finite amount of currency, which means it could easily have been left for an additional few weeks for people to wind down supply.
Please bring this back, at least to allow people to use up residual keys.
I’m counting on you kind folks at ArenaNet to make it happen!!! I trust you!
They are being re-added as confirmed in the other threads by one of the Anet community team!
This is just the tip of the iceberg. I don’t really care if I got a few I haven’t used but would like to, as I turned most of them in before just in case. But I’m getting tired of all the different currencies out there and what do you do with them but buy more storage. The very least they could do is give us a space for them in the bank like the watchwork sprockets.
After update chests are still not back, so don’t waste you time this patch.
This is why I ALWAYS use up my “keys” before the update goes away. >.<
That said, I’m glad that the chests are coming back, because it really was a poor move on ANet’s part to have the Lair remain, but the chests being no longer accessible. (I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was unintentional, but I have to say that my goodwill/patience is being stretched rather thin of late.)
I had to leave town in a rush for a work trip. Frankly the last thing I was thinking about when I was packing my bags was my left over cyphers for GW2. But now I’m back and I have a bunch left over
Good think the chests are coming back. I still have at least 20 keys left.
where did they say they were coming back?
I wonder if we will be notified when they are active again, I would hate to miss them a second time?
What I’m wondering is if there’s any reason to keep the leftover fragments. On my last marionette fight I ended up with something like 22 Scarlet’s fragments and not enough of anything else even with spare keys to open another chest. So do I chuck all the fragments or might there be another pending use for them?
anyone checked if they are back yet? there have been a few patches but nothing in the patchnotes
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany day now
What would have been a great idea would be to allow us to use the leftover pieces when we don’t have enough for a full key. 25 pieces make a key. How about for each piece we have leftover, we can make a makeshift “pick” to pick the lock on the chest, with each piece we have left over contributing 4% to the success of the makeshift lock pick. Got 24 pieces and can’t make a key? Double click them to form a lock pick with a 96% chance of success. Only one piece of that Toxic key? Still got a 4% chance to open the chest with it. That way we still make use of the pieces, even if they fail. I just hate clicking on “destroy” for anything other than bloodstone dust.

Poor idea. The smart people will break their piles up and use them individually. The chance of using 24 pieces and having all of them fail is only about 1 in 3, so you’re fairly likely to have multiple successes.

Then lower the number of keys and the drop rate. The numbers aren’t important. The idea itself isn’t bad.

No, you still have a 4% chance to fail each single key; every 25 will average 1 chest when used individually.
Here are the chances of getting X successes when trying 25 times with a 4% success chance each time:

I don’t get why people were hanging onto them?
as event ended I would turn in my cyphers, and the Monday before patch I made sure to cash everything in..just in case
just a protip going forward, ALWAYS assume they will take that stuff away and act accordingly before patch..
now if they stated differently, I don’t know, but I always do this because sometimes ANET does lack a bit of clear communication
I’m hanging onto them because I have enough left to make a few cyphers, and it’s possible that I might get enough Scarlet cyphers (which drop random other cyphers) to make yet another cypher. Once the chests are brought back and I’ve used up as much as I can though, I’m trashing the remainder.
People hung on to them because Anet stated the lair was going to stick around.
I didn’t even hang on to them, I just couldn’t play any more before the new patch came out.
Because the patch was delayed most of the day people were doing marionette to try and squeeeze out the last few codes. Then the patch hit and everyone rushed to patch so they could try LA. Not a lot of downtime.
[sarcasm mode on]
I kept the cyphers because Anet said the lair is here to stay. So if I cant use the cyphers I have one more reason to write complaints on the forums.
[sarcasm mode off]
even tho they didnt write so in the patch note… the chests in the lair are back
Good to know. Will get my 20+ keys from bank then.
(edited by Malediktus.9250)
Sadly only junk. Only one exotic from all these keys which was worth 1.5g
Thanks for the heads up, SOULFLY! Will go use up my last few cyphers tonight. (And maybe pay a visit to the Marionette too. Haven’t been back there since Origins of Madness.)
Does it matter witch cypher key i make? I have a bunch of the bags that u can choose witch one to take?
Each of the different chests has the chance to drop themed loot. For instance:
- Molten chest has a chance to drop Fused salvageable scrap
- Toxic chest has a chance to drop Toxic spores
Each of the different chests also has chances to drop Zealot and Keeper recipes (seems to be a higher chance from Scarlet chests), so ultimately unless you’re after a very specific themed loot, it doesn’t really matter which chest you open.
even tho they didnt write so in the patch note… the chests in the lair are back
Great, just after I destroyed all the cyphers.
It is so difficult to put some signal in the items themselves to mark if they are intended to not be usable anymore? It was a lot of space for all the cyphers and keys and power cores without any signal if that was even useful or not.
So, at the end, I was not able to make the Marionette, I had to check forums to known the lair location (which I hate to do, I’d like info to be in game), discover the chests were unable to open, destroy the keys, and then they are useful again?
Great. Just great.
Something is wrong when is more profitable and enjoyable to google and youtube the game than play the game.
Just to make a note, while the devs haven’t said anything about removing the chests again, I STRONGLY suggest you turn in any remaining cyphers tonight, before the next update.
