I am slowly becoming bored with Guild Wars 2. I played Guild Wars 1 for 5 years and love all the content that made the world. Now I have found out that there may not be any paid addons, or expansions. I enjoyed GW1 and had no problem running out and buying Factions, Nightfall. and Eye of the North. I bought GW2 and have been impatiently waiting to return to Cantha and Elona.

So, does this mean that mean those regions are lost to us??? I sure hope not. But I also don’t want a slow role out of the entire map. I want to push through at my own speed. If I decide to push through, I don’t want to hit a road block, and wait.

As a player of the GW legacy for six years. I am hoping NC soft doesn’t ruin it for me. It is the one and only game I play. Sad isn’kitten I want my ritualist, assassins, dervish and paragons back. I want to travel to the lands we once knew. I don’t care if I have to pay. I didn’t mind then, and I won’t mind now.

Our legacy grows stronger.

There is a reason why I still play GW1.

More places to go and, now, no Scarlet stupidity.

I recently returned to gw1, much better game and I don’t feel like it is pushing me into the trading post or gemstore.

I can perfectly relate, OP. The game is boring, the story is not worthy to be called Guild Wars, and the design decisions are simply horrible.

I wish they’d continue GW1. Or made GW2 in the image and spirit of GW1.

Don’t know how long I’ll stay – I’m mostly logging in because of friends – but if ANet continues down on this path to ruin, I’ll take a heartbreaking goodbye from Guild Wars.

I completely agree. I remember doing dungeons in GW1 and always having fun. With GW2, I am just going through the motions. I use the same cookie-cutter build that every other person with the same Profession as me is running.

I really miss the level of build customization in GW1. I miss the epic dungeons. My friend and I actually dreamed of doing Mallyx, the Unyielding. That was a goal of ours. When we finally did it, we celebrated with Mead. I know that sounds corny, but we actually really enjoyed those things.

This game has no challenge to the dungeons. You just dodge at the right time and do enough damage so the rest of the team doesn’t know you aren’t contributing much. Every dungeon can be completed with cookie cutter zerker [insert profession]. The closest I got to GW2 requiring you to know your profession to succeed was Liadri… and that was only a solo fight.

Maybe one day they will come out with Guild Wars: Utopia and I can finally make a Chronomancer. Until then, I will be hoping they release the Ritualist. Of course, they may butcher that like Mesmer and it will be nothing like I remember it being.

I don’t want more things to get, I want more things to do.

Meh, more and more it feels like the issue can be found in SPVP.

The skills and mechanics are locked into point defense&capture, and works lovely for that. But anywhere else they pretty much faceplant because the same mechanics pretty much strip away player agency and group interaction.

1. the skills are balanced for small groups that have to choose between staying together or splitting up. meaning they break in WVW as there are always enough people around to max out the 5 man limit of even PBAOE support skills.

2. the skills are balanced around either holding a point or getting someone off a point. But points do not exist in PVE. And so everyone just crams together on top of the big bad and spam their supports, in much the same way as if everyone was stacking to defending or attacking a single point in SPVP.

And it’s more fun. I’ve been playing GW1 these days more than GW2. Figure while there’s nothing important going on in GW2 I can finish my last 2 points of 50/50 and finish up GWAMM and help other guildies get theirs.

I have to say I am getting bored of this game as well. As someone who hasn’t played Guild Wars 1 before, I’m starting to think I should now instead of this game. I still love GW2 but man, I’m slowly losing interest

Yeah because asking for GW1 regions (which are even on the map ingame, we just can’t go to them) and a GW1 inspired story / living story is asking for GW1.

Because that’s the only thing that could ever possibly differentiate the two from each other. :L

Imagine a mission to Cantha. Imagine the beautiful new permanent territory that that march would open up. Imagine the storytelling potential. Imagine Anet was doing something like this rather than throwaway updates every two weeks.

Everyone’s talking about expansions for Guild Wars 2, and I’m just sitting here waiting for an original remake.

Guild Wars 2 is not a sequel to the original Guild Wars but merely an alternative story setting.

Typically these threads turn into “GW1 had X class, or GW1 did skills like this, or GW1 was better because you could do X, I miss X from GW1, I just wish they would bring back X, or GW1 never had X and it was the greatest game ever. i wish GW2 was more like GW1, etc.”

You get the idea. My sheesh was preempt of the above.

Yes, but by the time NCSoft started actually exerting its influence on ANet, GW was established, and it was too late for them to ruin it, although the evidence was there that they tried to turn it into Korean-style cash shop nightmare just like we have now.

Agreed, although I bought every costume from the store in GW1 and never felt wrong in doing so. In GW2 I feel like the gemstore is like a shady auto dealer trying to hustle me.

GW2 doesn’t have the epicness that GW1 had.
GW2 doesn’t have the story depth that GW1 had.
GW2 doesn’t have the customization that GW1 had.
GW2 doesn’t have the difficulty curve that GW1 had.
GW2 doesn’t have the diversity of dungeons and content that GW1 had.

I could go on.
Time gated content and zerg style gameplay was the exact opposite of what GW1 was. Ursan anyone?
They need to get their heads out of their quaggans or I feel the new titles will make GW2 slowly disappear into the mists.

all ive noticed is Anet seems to have put every effort into the launch of this game and did absolutely no thinking as far as long term. after release, all we have seen is temporary events/dungeons. i saw the potential and jumped on it, now unfortunately the effort put into launch is seriously lacking 1yr later.

and now, from what i see in these forums, they still dont know what to do so, instead of reading the forums LIKE THEY SAY THEY DO to get ideas, they have created a thread specifically for living world ideas. since apparently they have run out of them.

Never got bored with an MMO faster than GW2. Took 4mos.

That one skill practically destroy Guild Wars 1 for me, right until it was nerfed to oblivion and I came back taunting all the players that depended on that skill.

But yeah, everything you said about Guild Wars 1 plus more. Guild Wars 1 does Living Story a hell a lot better than this game. I felt my character was part of the Shining Blade movement and help bring the Queen back in LA, or how my character have to clean up Cantha and watch horribly as he might have started the road to xenophobia among Canthan. Whats even better is that my other characters can do these “Living Story”, or Guild Wars Beyond by its rightful name, any time he or she wants and not suffer from the limited time bull crap the Living Story has.

Living Story is meant to be temporary. It is a design choice. Whether it is bad or good, it is rather subjective. I think it is good. You might think it is bad. But that is the rule of the game. If you are not there when it happens, it is too bad. You snooze you lose. That said you can still enjoy other contents or upcoming living story content. If you don’t want to play by the rule, simply don’t play it.

They stated that you can play however you want: exploring the world, dungeon completing, fractals, mega boss events, living story, spvp, wvw. But they never said that you will / could earn everything by playing a certain ways. I can run around LA 20 laps per day and pray that an ascended chest will somehow drop from the sky, but that will never happen would it?

If you don’t do the Living story content when it’s there then you miss it. Period. The rules are set, if you don’t want to play it, don’t. If you feel entitled to all the contents that you think you bought you can try to sue ArenaNet for it. Chances are you might get a refund and have your account permanently terminated.

There is an opportunity cost in every action, every choice you make. If you do A, you miss out B. Just like in life. You can do whatever you want. But there is a cost to every single one of your actions.

I’ve been playing GW2 daily for every day since headstart. I was so excited to get the Mask of the Night and to experience the Blood & Madness update.
Then my lung collapsed and I was rushed to the emergency room and needed a major operation to adhere my lung to the inside of my chest, and then I got to wear a fancy chest tube between my ribs for about a week. Doctors then forced me to stay afterwards for more X-Rays and blood tests. I could have died, and that was the first thing to break my GW2 daily chain since… well, ever. Upon my return I have lost out on all of the new content; I was so excited for it, I was counting the days until being able to see Mad King Thorn yet again. But nope. Snooze you lose, right? Thanks for the temporary-only content…
At least thankfully my best friends decided they’d keep my Daily Laurel chain going and complete every achievement for me, despite being against the ToS.

Also, before you say “but you should be concerned about your health”, I find real life to be horrible and I’ll only suffer through work for the income. If I’m unfit for gaming, then I’m done.

PS. Sure this was a Holiday-themed event, but what I’m getting at is something like this could happen during a regular update with no chance to see what happened. Felt horrible knowing that my dedication to the game did nothing, and surviving through this chaos was only met with me never seeing the content because spontaneous near-death happened.
