Guild Wars 2

Rox, Kasmeer, Delaqua, Braham, Taimi party.

They feel more like a school trip rather than a well-seasoned adventuring party.

1) Taimi is a kid and prone to a lot of enthusiasm mistakes. Has no experience at all.
2) Rox is a deserter who fled the Legions and has disobeyed direct orders from his Tribune.He should be exiled in some deserted island. Has minimal experience.
3) Braham is a raged teenager with mommy issues who likes to break things that could be useful. Also has minimal experiences.
4)Kasmeer & Delaqua no serious issues, they seem to have experience, other than that they constantly talk about their love life. I dont care about their private life.

In short, this party has minimal experience and they only just starting their adventuring career now.

Too bad for Tyri, that the original Destiny’s Edge have retired (at their peak of their strength, now that Tyria faces its destruction. Yeah, bunch of losers?)

Now that Mordremoth, the Plant Dragon will expose himself soon, we cannot expect these 2 parties to save us.
Destiny’s Edge 1.0 has lose mentality and has retired, while Destiny’s Edge 2.0 has tremendous enthusiasm but almost no experience.

We need the Pact to save us.

Remember the Vigil, Priory, Order of Whisper agents?
The ones who presented us with plans in the fight against Zhaitan?
Even better, the high level agents or the Pact representatives

Each one of these is far more experienced than Desiny’s Edge 2.0

In fact, some of these members are among the top of the world.

FOR THE SAKE OF REALISM, when Mordremoth appears- when the real fighting begins, only the best should be the Vanguard of Tyria.

OLNY THE BEST OF THE BEST SHOULD BE WITH THE PLAYER.

Um…Rox is female.

I doubt they will be replaced.

You never know, they might actually have some character development and toughen up.

Character development is central to the act of storytelling.

They’re supposed to be kitten so that they can grow through their experiences, since the story is about them as much as it is about us or the world.

If we only could pick our party members. I would take Benn, Doern, Eilye Jeyne and Laranthir of the Wild, but I would still keep Taimi though.

Rox didn’t desert. She gladium, she has no status until she’s accepted into a warband. Hers was killed in a cave in, along with her first lasher. And Rylock didn’t give her an order to kill Scarlet, he told her if she killed Scarlet she’d be granted entrance into Stone warband. In the end, rather than pursue her own goals, she tended Braham who’d been wounded. or in other words she made a personal sacrifice for a friend.

As for the experience… Uhm: Frodo, Sam, Pip and Merry. Tika Waylan and Laurana. Garion. Pug and Thomas . Do I need to continue this list?

If we’re going to come up with party compositions, how could you not go for: The Windmill King, Lord Faren, the child in Queensdale chasing the chicken, the crazy bee lady and Poobadoo?

The current nameless party was selected to be less awesome than the player character, so that they look up to us. This is done deliberately, so that the player character does not feel like being second fiddle to the NPCs (which was a major complaint regarding the original Personal Story).

As they adventure, they will become more experienced and heroic (as we already saw with Kasmeer, who overcame her hiccups). Because you know how you get experienced people? By sending inexperienced people on adventures. If you only ever use your veterans for quests, nobody will be ready to take up their mantle when they fall.

So from a storytelling perspective, your suggestion is not a change that needs to happen. Unless you like adventuring side-by-side with Trahearne, of course. Because who has more experience in fighting dragons than the Marshall of the Pact himself?

Seriously, add Trahearne to the top of that list and see how much you like the idea then.

If you have read the destinys edge book (but by your post i think not)you can see thet they started just like this (maybi just a litle stronger but stil the same).So give it time they just started

If you bring in characters with backgrounds, personalities, and so forth that are weak, the level of development necessary to make them acceptable becomes higher. The more development time sunk into such characters to bring them to an -acceptable- level detracts from development time that could be sunk into additional characters.

In short, when you introduce characters like the 5 we have (I don’t want to count Taimi, but just for the sake of the discussion I will), the fact they overshadow all other characters, including the all-important player-character, causes player angst against these characters. No one wants to see the same 5 characters getting developed, over and over again, for several years, just so they can be, -acceptable-.

Players want characters who don’t need a -ton- of development, so that other characters -can- be developed. There is so much wrong with the biconics at this point that virtually every living story session, they dominate it with their personal lives and emotional baggage. This causes players to hate them.

@geogyf Your list is good, but number nine, Explorer Hekja is out of question. She got killed during Estate of Decay. She got corrupted and we had to kill her, Lord Kitah and his jester.

Pretty much this. Most gladiums fall outside the chain of command, meaning that they don’t necessarily have anyone whose in charge of them. They thus have little use or purpose in Charr society. That’s why some gladium leave Charr society and become part of the Orders or pirates or whatever. However being blood legion Rytlock would still be her superior.

liadri to my side and were ready to go.. taimi can team up with us because i like her but we dont need her really

This just reminds me of the suggestion to implement the Henchmen/Hero system from GW1 into GW2. Imagine being able to recruit characters through the Personal Storyline and the Living Story? Being able to add them to your party.

You know, if a bunch of D&D players got together, and rolled some newbie characters, and one of the players said: “Your characters are crap, make this instead”, they will probably avoid playing with that guy again.

They are a ragtag bunch because they got together by chance. That’s just how it is. There was no plan on making some guild or something until they realized they had been fighting together.

It’s like when you are exploring a map and without noticing end up making 6 hearts and 4 events with the same 4 people around, and end up joining in a party and doing a dungeon and all.

Also, with these inexperienced kids it’s like you are the level 80 guy with 20K AP and they are the kids you met in a lowbie area and help learn the ropes.

That’s why are “the boss”. You coud not be “the boss” if you got some famous big shots in the party.

I never wanted to be the boss of DE 2.0 anyway. When they called me boss the first time, i actually raised an eyebrow.

I think it would be better if the individual Orders were more central in the main plot. It would be awesome if the PC would lead an elite/veteran insert your Order squad instead. Or an all-star Pact unit to save money on VA’s and writers.

DE 2.0 feels like a team that needs babysitting from the PC or else they’d kill themselves.

Well said. In a previous post, I already mentioned that Trahearne actually meets all the criteria the OP wants to see in a “party member”, arguably better than most of the ones he/she does name.

(Except of course that nobody likes it when Trahearne is helping them.)
