Sorrow’s Furnace Commander
“You’re the mount, karka’s ride you instead, and thus they die happy!”-Colin Johanson
The next living story chapter is called “Twilight Assault”. The trailer showed Aetherblades, steam creatures, and nightmare husks (and Caithe). It seems obvious that Scarlet is involved, and Faolain probably is too.
Most people are assuming that we’re just going to go fight Scarlet in a new locale, or maybe that Twilight Arbor is getting an overhaul, but here’s what I’m hoping for…
Scarlet intends to conquer the Nightmare Court, so she attacks Twilight Arbor with the intent to kill their leader, Faolain. Players join the battle, caught between two evil armies, and are forced to join with either Scarlet or Faolain to crush the other. Then, whichever path is completed by more groups determines living story events down the road.
Thoughts?
That’d rock!

That would be SO epic

This would be pretty cool, if only because it would give the players the chance to kill scarlet out of the LS script once and for all!
Isn’t Faolain dead?
Scarlet seems to seek a third way between the Pale Tree and the Nightmare Court, as such she could be looking for a way to weaken or destroy the Court. Heck, it may be that Caithe ends up trying to rescue the Court from Scarlet. A hero’s life is never a easy one.
I’m pretty sure Faolain abandoned Twilight Arbor, and went into hiding, after her defeat during the Story Mode version of the same dungeon. Not to mention that we clear out what’s mostly left of the Nightmare Court that were there during the Explorable Mode’s different paths.
I can see Scarlet invading Twilight Arbor, but I can’t imagine there being that many Nightmare Courtiers left to fend her off, or that Faolain’s returned there either. It is where Caithe kind of dumped her for the umpteenth time.

A showdown with Faolain would be highly entertaining. Or perhaps Faolain pretends to ally herself with Scarlet while both are plotting to double-cross the other (and the players get to see and perhaps help this )
I don’t think Faolain and Scarlet will become allies because Scarlet despises the NC as much as she despises… well, everything else. I think she will try to kill Faolain, but we probably won’t be able to pick sides.
I think Caithe will simply come to us saying “Please, don’t let Scarlet kill my beloved Faolain! I beg you!”, and we will go save Faolain.

A doublecross? I love it – unfortunately I doubt the writers would come up with an idea like that. So far their plot ideas have been sub-par.
I like it when evils fight each other.

This.
Scarlet hates the idea of joining pre-existing groups. She only joins groups she makes. So I cannot see her taking over the NC.
Sadly, this bit about her was shown in an interview not in game…

This leads to even more confusion as that interview was accessed by what, .000001% of the playerbase?

another thing I can’t stand about the living story, Character development and pieces to the story are scattered all over the internet. Some interview, a short story from the official site, an obscure thread a developer posts some info about the character.
Isn’t the plot of TA explorable that Faolain has abandoned TA and the remaining Couriers are fighting over the Nightmare Tree? The same tree we destroy yet it’s seen at the end of the Twilight Assault trailer? I didn’t think Faolain was in the picture when it comes to TA any more.
One of the things I hate about TA explorable is that it’s essentially three different timelines from a story perspective. As far as I know, no single path can exist in the same time line as another. To me that might be the first hint that Twilight Assault is scrapping old school TA – the old “story” can’t be canon because the three paths are mutually exclusive from a story perspective.
If Scarlet wants Twilight Arbor I don’t see any other ways than taking it by force from the Nightmare Court, and it’ not that she doesn’t have the means to do it. Anything NC can throw out is pretty much an easy prey for Aetherblades and Twisted Clockwork, unless we have a plot twist right there, like… some dragon rising.
I said it in another thread, but I doubt it will happen. I’m would like to see, after a big fight against one another, Scarlet to injure Caithe and possibly capture her. Faolain being still in love with Caithe, in her dark and twisted way, gets enraged and goes after Scarlet personally.
After Faolain chases Scarlet away, with the help of the heroes of course, she would do what anyone would do with an injured loved one. She would try and convert Caithe to the Nightmare in her weakened state.
Final fight would be against Faolain of course. Lol
That would be SO epic

That would indeed be epic OP. But sadly I doubt Anet would grace us with a story like that, considering how straightforward / superficial updates we’ve been getting lately in the Living Random Story.
Also, the Nightmare Court would totally have me on their side vs Scarlet.
Double-cross? Go Faolain go!

We must help Faolain win. Scarlet must die.
If we can kill off all 3 of the Sylvari it would be a triple WIN!

Eh? Who’s the third? Caithe? No, she can live. Let’s focus on killing Scarlet, and then Faolain too. Maybe.

She isn’t and that looked like a mechanized Oakheart to me. More akin in shape to the Champion Ancient Rotting Oakheart than the Nightmare Tree at least.

Though I’d hate it if they scrap 1 or 2 paths to never be heard from ever again.
BTW, Crucible of Eternity and Honor of the Waves are also like TA explorable; except in the latter the end enemy is different. In all three paths, it’s one way to solve the same issue or the same allied NPC going through. I suppose you can argue HotW is different though, but at the end of CoE’s three paths the place is set to blow up and Subject Alpha should be destroyed (sometimes his essence can get away though so… idk).
I just want Scarlet and Faolin to have hot lesbian plant sex and make Caithe watch.
Isn’t Faolain dead?
No, after defeating Faolain in TA story mode, she teleports away. We aren’t told where, but she’s clearly not dead.
