[Suggestion] How to make SAB permanent: PvP
I like this idea, I like this a lot!
The world 1 in normal mode was really fun to speed through, didn’t require huge amounts of skill to do it, but there was always room for improvement for me there.
This could actually caught the eyes of Speed Demo Archives fellas as well, especially the Hardcore mode speed running as they seem to like games that require precises jumps and moves.
Would make GW2 a bit more visible AND I think SDA don’t have any MMO games in their Speed Demo archive, maybe Guild Wars 2 could be the first one, hint hint
Mouggari – Warrior – Candy cane Avenger
its a crime for such awesome content not being permanent

I, myself, would love to see racing content.
If you don’t mind watching a bit of Minecraft content, but it would be awesome to see some maps similar Vech’s map racing designs.
Hopefully it will be permanent after Release of World 4.
There is a well-known fact that players tend to get tired of the current end-game content. That goes for every MMO ever made.
There you go.
What do you change with a permanent SAB?
Would it be permanent, I wouldn’t play it at the moment. Due to the same reason I’m not doing any dungeons apart from some quick runs for gold.
The way it currently is, I’m hyped for this thing to return and I’m going to spend waaay to much time in there. This wouldn’t be the case with permanent content though.
Don’t get me wrong. I myself consider the current state of the game to be lacking regarding permanent content. But adding just another thing to the heap of stuff where we have little reason to return to won’t help.
Regarding leaderboards, already without them you have people recording themselfs and their time to do competitions. I can’t see this being a high priority.

Which is why Im proposing they adding a leaderboard. Even though we havent seen much change in tPvP the last year, other than some new maps, there are still alot of people playing PvP. The leaderboard and the constant challenge of other players are what I think keeps it interesting.
Of course we will eventually be tired of SAB as well if it was permanent, but there would be alot more to the current end-game. Also, if it was permanent, I would not feel forced to be overplaying SAB, which I am probably going to when the next SAB patch hits just because I know in a month it will disappear.

I can’t talk for everyone, but the leaderboard doesn’t interest me at all when playing PvP.
it’s nice to have, but I don’t play because of it.

True. I was mostly talking about the mid-high end PvPers. The top might not be interested in the rank on the leaderboards, as they compete in tournaments anyways.
And if this would be too big of a hazzle to develop. Another easier way to please us speedrunners would be to give different titles based on the speed you completed certain areas. To avoid backslash from achievement hunters, just simply give 0 achievement points from completion, only the wearable title.
For example:
World 2 Zone 1 Tribulation mode
(finish under 10 minutes)
Log Skipper
World 2 Zone 2 Tribulation mode
(finish under 20 minutes)
Pro Skillz
(finish under 12 minutes)
Numchuck Skillz
(finish under 10 minutes)
iddqd Skillz
…etc
These times were doable last event. Proof: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1mdhau/sab_speedrunning_tribulation_mode_records/
I would Love to the something like that. But I dont think anything like that will happen.
I remeber a time were ArenaNet said it would come Fraktale Leaderboards but I still dont see them. (But I also can’t think what they would display in this Leaderboard)
But I would be a nice Challenge if there would be a Leaderboard for SAB
After I wrote another SAB related thread yesterday, my creativity started flowing thinking of how awesome it would be to have a SAB (Super Adventure Box) leaderboard.
SAB has been a temporary “Jumping Puzzle dungeon”. As many of the other temporary dungeons in the Living Story, people have disagreed with the fact that Anet removes them after the LS moves on. I see the point of the Living Story, and I understand why there are temporary content, but to be it looks like SAB has been by far the temporary dungeon with the most work put in. As a jumping puzzle enthusiast, I think it would suck for this great content to only be playable for a short amount of time.
Relics of Orr wrote an article titled What Ever Happened to Dungeons?, which I thought was an interesting read. They barely touch upon the subject of temporary vs permanent dungeons, which is my point in this thread. I would love to see more permanent content. There is a well-known fact that players tend to get tired of the current end-game content. That goes for every MMO ever made. I understand what Anet is trying to do by not giving us the chance of getting tired of this content through making it temporary, but I do not think it is a good idea doing this for basically every Living Story patched dungeon. Granted, we have seen the return of the Aetherblades dungeon and Molten Facility as they were implemented in Fractals of the Mist, but to me it just dont feel the same.
My suggestion!
When the last planned patch of SAB ends, the dungeon cluster should stay, but with an added layer of PvP. As there are three modes (baby mode, normal mode and tribulation mode), there could be another called racing mode (in lack of a better name). This would be a single player mode with a timer that starts when the player can move and act like a stop watch with laps, showing the total time and the time for each of the zones completed thus far. The timer would stop when the boss of every level is defeated and the cage is opened.Of course there would be a leaderboard! I took the liberty of making a few screenshots. (If clicking links are too scary, please see the attached screenshots below).
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2By doing this, hardcore jumpers, like myself, would still have a challenge; the PvP. I did not like the “dumbing” down of Tribulation Mode last patch (excuse me if I step on somebody’s toes), as I felt things became too easy. Having a timer and the challenge of beating other equally hardcore players, I think would be a great addition.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject. Would a competitive approach to SAB be something you would be interested in?
Great idea! There’s so much they could do with SAB, and it all starts with leaving it in the game. There’s this educational feel to it, supported the NPC dialogue, and this could leverage to have seasonal content. “Courses” could be offered, such as PVP, or specific types of dungeons/maps. The possibilities are endless.
?
SAB was never planned to be taken away after the 4th release. That’s been said a long time ago on the 1st release that they would remove it untill the last installement to create hype then they will keep it permanently in the game.
